  • A ground anchor system is used as a load carrying element for soil structure stability The conventional systems with ground anchors bring about the anchorage loss of wedges when anchors are installed for the support of soil structures. Hence we developed the new type of anchor system using both the spacing apparatus and spring (length 60mm, diameter 6mm). In this system, we can directly check the condition of wedges and PS strands and modify the problems with the slip and anchorage of wedges under construction. For demonstrating the superiority of this system, we carried out a series of both laboratory and field test. Consequently, we can obtain satisfactory result (18.99% reduction to the loss of conventional systems). Moreover, the replacement of wedges is easy and simple when retensioning of strands.

  • PURPOSES: The purpose of this study is to evaluate physical properties, durability, fatigue resistance, and long-term performance of poly-urethane concrete (PU) which can be possible application of thin layer on long-span orthotropic steel bridge and to check structural stability of bridge structure. METHODS : Various tests of physical properties, such as flexural strength, tensile strength, bond strength and coefficient of thermal expansion tests were conducted for physical property evaluation using two types of poly urethane concrete which have different curing time. Freezing and thawing test, accelerated weathering test and chloride ion penetration test were performed to evaluate the effect of exposed to marine environment. Beam fatigue test and small scale accelerated pavement test were performed to assess the resistance of PU against fatigue damage and long-term performance. Structural analysis were conducted to figure out structural stability of bridge structure and thin bridge deck pavement system. RESULTS: The property tests results showed that similar results were observed overall however the flexural strength of PUa was higher than those of PUb. It was also found that PU materials showed durability at marine environment. Beam fatigue test results showed that the resistances of the PUa against fatigue damage were two times higher than those of the PUb. It was found form small scale accelerated pavement test to evaluate long-term performance that there is no distress observed after 800,000 load applications. Structural analysis to figure out structural stability of bridge structure and thin bridge deck pavement system indicated that bridge structures were needed to increase thickness of steel deck plate or to improve longitudinal rib shape. CONCLUSIONS: It has been known that the use of PU can be positively considered to thin layer on long-span orthotropic steel bridge in terms of properties considered marine environment, resistance of fatigue damage and long-term performance.

  • This paper presents a logarithmic shear deformation theory to study the thermal buckling response of power-law FG one-dimensional structures in thermal conditions with different boundary conditions. It is assumed that the functionally graded material and thermal properties are supposed to vary smoothly according to a contentious function across the vertical direction of the beams. A P-FG type function is employed to describe the volume fraction of material and thermal properties of the graded (1D) beam. The Ritz model is employed to solve the thermal buckling problems in immovable boundary conditions. The outcomes of the stability analysis of FG beams with temperature-dependent and independent properties are presented. The effects of the thermal loading are considered with three forms of rising: nonlinear, linear and uniform. Numerical results are obtained employing the present logarithmic theory and are verified by comparisons with the other models to check the accuracy of the developed theory. A parametric study was conducted to investigate the effects of various parameters on the critical thermal stability of P-FG beams. These parameters included support type, temperature fields, material distributions, side-to-thickness ratios, and temperature dependency.

  • The objective of this study is to optimize the responses of the creep feed ceramic grinding process simultaneously by an off-1ine multicriteria optimization methodology. The responses considered as objectives are material removal rate, flexural strength, normal grinding force, workpiece surface roughness and grinder power. Alumina material was ground by the creep feed grinding mode using superabrasive grinding wheels. The process variables optimized for the above objectives include grinding wheel specification, such as bond type, mesh size, and grit concentration, and grinding process parameters, such as depth of cut and feed rate. A weighting method transforms the multi-objective problem into a single-objective programming format and then, by parametric variation of weights, the set of non-dominated optimum solutions are obtained. Finally, the multi-objective optimization methodology was tested by a sensitivity analysis to check the stability of the model.

  • New form of base isolators made of steel spring coated with both natural and artficial rubber were manufactured and tested for material properties. Shaking table experiments were performed using a model structure attached with the bearings. The model structure used in the test is a 1/4 scaled steel structure, and earthquake records were used to check the lateral and vertical stability and effectiveness of the isolators. According to the results all three types of isolators turned out to be effective in reducing the acceleration induced by the earthquake vibration.

  • In this paper, we establish a new robust $H_{\infty}$ performance condition for uncertain discrete-time systems with convex polytopic uncertainties. We express the condition as a set of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs), which are used to check stability and $H_{\infty}$ disturbance attenuation level by a parameter-dependent Lyapunov matrix. We show that the new condition provides less conservative result than the existing ones which use single Lyapunov matrix. We also show that the robust $H_{\infty}$ state feedback design problem for such uncertain discrete-time systems can be easily dealt with using the approach. The key point in this paper is to propose a kind of decoupling between the Lyapunov matrix and the system matrices in the parameter-dependent matrix inequality by introducing one new matrix variable.

  • In the adaptive fuzzy control field for affine nonlinear systems, there are two basic configurations: direct and indirect. It is well known that the direct configuration needs more restrictions on the control gain than the indirect configuration. In general, these restrictions are difficult to check in practice where mathematical models of plant are not available. In this paper, using a simple extension of the universal approximation theorem, we show that the only required constraint on the control gain is that its sign is known. The Lyapunov synthesis approach is used to guarantee the stability and convergence of the closed loop system. Finally, examples of an inverted pendulum and a magnet levitation system demonstrate the theoretical results.

  • This research deals with the study of the orthotropic vibrational features of single-walled carbon nanotubes according to Kelvin's model and to check the accuracy of the models, the results have been compared with earlier modeling/simulations. Obtaining rough approximations of the natural frequencies of CNTs using continuum equations are still a common procedure, even at high harmonics. The effects of different physical and material parameters on the fundamental frequencies are investigated for zigzag and chiral single-walled carbon nanotubes invoking Kelvin's theory. By using nonlocal Kelvin's model, the fundamental natural frequency spectra for two forms of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) have been calculated. The influence of frequencies with nonlocal parameters and bending rigidity are investigated in detail for these tubes. Computer software MATLAB is utilized for the frequencies of SWCNTs and current results shows a good stability with comparison of other studies.

  • Vector controlled PMAC(Permanent Magnet AC) motor, with rare-earth permanent magnet, are suitable for servo system demanding fast speed response. However, abrupt acceleration and deceleration control for fast response requires big instantaneous input power. So general PI control of PMAC motors can't be applied for limited power supply system like airplane or portable equipment because of input power fluctuation. Proposed technique to restrain instantaneous input power use variable power limit depends on airgap flux power. Stability check for proposed system is done.
