  • The adsorption characteristics of Sr and Cs ions were investigated by using PS-zeolite beads prepared by immobilizing zeolite with polysulfone (PS). The adsorption kinetics of Sr and Cs ions by PS-zeolite beads was described well by the pseudo-second-order model. The maximum adsorption capacities of Sr and Cs ions calculated from Langmuir isotherm model were 65.0 mg/g and 76.4 mg/g, respectively. In the binary system of Sr ion and Cs ion, the adsorption capacities of each ion decreased with increasing mole ratio of mixed counterpart ion, and Cs ion showed the higher hinderance than Sr ion. We found that thermodynamic properties of Sr and Cs ions on absorption reaction were spontaneous and endothermic at 293 to 323 K.

  • This study evaluates the adsorption properties of Sr ions in an aqueous solution of the synthetic zeolite (Z-Y1) prepared using coal fly ash generated from a thermal power plant. In order to investigate the adsorption characteristics, the effects of various parameters such as the initial concentrations of Sr ion, contact time, and solution pH were investigated in a batch mode. The Langmuir and Redlich-Peterson model fitted the adsorption isotherm data better than the Freundlich model. The maximum adsorption capacity of Sr ions, as determined the Langmuir model, was 181.68 mg/g. It was found that by varying the Sr ion concentration, pH, and temperature, the pseudo-second-order kinetic model describes the adsorption kinetics of the Sr ion better than the pseudo-first-order kinetic model. The calculated thermodynamic parameters of ${\Delta}H^0$ and ${\Delta}G^0$ showed that the adsorption of Sr ions on Z-Y1 was occurred through a spontaneous and an endothermic reaction. We found that the adsorption of Sr ions by Z-Y1 was more affected by pH than by temperature and Sr ion concentration.

  • In this research a adsorbent, PVA-Zeolite bead, was prepared by immobilizing zeolite with PVA. The results of XRD and SEM analysis showed that the prepared PVA-Zeolite beads had porous structure and the zeolite particles were in mobilized within the internal matrix of the beads. The adsorption properties of Sr ion and Cs ion with the adsorbent were studied by different parameters such as effect of pH, adsorption rate, and adsorption isotherm. The adsorption of Sr ion and Cs ion reached equilibrium after 540 minutes. The adsorption kinetics of both ions by the PVA-Zeolite beads were fitted well by the pseudo-second-order model more than pseudo-first-order model. The equilibrium data fitted well with Langmuir isotherm model. The maximum adsorption capacities of Sr ion and Cs ion calculated from Langmuir isotherm model were 52.08 mg/g and 58.14 mg/g, respectively. The external mass transfer step was very fast compared to the intra-particle diffusion step in the adsorption process of Cs ion and Sr ion by the PVA-Zeolite beads. This result implied that the rate controlling step was the intra-particle diffusion step.

  • The adsorption characteristics of Sr ion in aqueous solution was examined using zeolite NaA powder (Z-PA) and pellets (Z-BA). In batch experiment, the adsorption of Sr ions by Z-BA and Z-PA was well expressed by pseudo-second-order kinetic model than psedo-first-order kinetic model. Experimental isotherm results was well fitted to Langmuir isotherm model and the maximum adsorption capacities obtained from Langmuir isotherm model were 233.32 mg/g for Z-PA and 164.60 mg/g for Z-BA, respectively. The continuous experiment results showed that the total Sr ion uptake (q) increased, but the breakthrough time, effluent volume ($V_{eff}$) and total removal (R) of Sr ion decreased with the Sr ion concentration. The breakthrough curves obtained from the experiment was modeled by Thomas model.

  • The removal of Sr ion and Cs ion was investigated to evaluate adsorption properties by using SAN-Zeolite beads immobilized with styrene acrylonitrile (SAN). The adsorption capacities increased with the decrease of SAN/zeolite ratio (SAR) from 2.5 to 0.83. The relationship of adsorption capacity ($q_e$) and SAR was described by experimental equation such as $q_e=20.88+137.81e^{-1.96SAR}$ ($r^2=0.9980$). The adsorption kinetics of Sr ion and Cs ion with SAN-Zeolite beads were fitted well by the pseudo-second-order model. The maximum adsorption capacities of Sr ion and Cs ion calculated from Langmuir isotherm model were 66.97 mg/g and 81.97 mg/g, respectively.

  • PAN-4A composite ion exchanger was more selective for Sr ion than other cations and PAN-KCoFC composite ion exchanger has much higher ion exchange capacity for Cs ion than other cations. The ion exchange capacities obtained from Dubinin-Polanyi equation were 3.93 meq/g for Sr ion and 1.50 meq/g for Cs ion using PAN-4A and PAN-KCoFC ion exchangers, respectively. The modified Dubinin-Polanyi model fit the experimental data accurately in multi-component system. The effective surface diffusivities $(D_{s, cff})$ for Sr and Cs ions of PAN-4A and PAN-KCoFC ion exchangers were slightly increased with the different particle sizes.

  • We studied on the visible emission of Cu-ion-doped perovskite hafnate $SrHfO_3$ (SHO:Cu) with the photo-excitation energy dependence. The polycrystalline SHO:Cu samples were newly synthesized in the solid state reaction method. From the X-ray diffraction measurement it was found that the crystalline structure of SHO:Cu is nearly identical to that of undoped $SrHfO_3$. Interestingly, the photoluminescence excitation (PLE) spectra change significantly with the emission energy, which is linked to the strong dependence of the visible emission on the photo-excitation energy. This unusual emission behavior is likely to be associated with the mixed valence states of the doped Cu ions, which were revealed by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. We compared our finding of tunable visible emission in the SHO:Cu compounds with the cases of similar materials, $SrTiO_3$ and $SrZrO_3$ with Cu-ion-doping.

  • This study showed the adsorption behavior of Cs and Sr into the inorganic ion-exchanger zeolites such as 4A, 13X, AW300, AW500 and natural. It was found that the best type of zeolite is AW500 for Cs and 13X for Sr in terms of ion-exchange capacity. The temperature effect was also examined for the following systems : AW500-Cs, AW300-Cs, natural zeolite-Cs, 4A-Sr and 13X-Sr. Experiments showed that the effect of temperature on the ion-exchange capacity is negligible in all cases except for the systems of 4A-Sr and natural zeolite-Cs. The enhancement in the ion-exchange capacity for 4A-Sr would be caused by the Sr ion movement and the multilayer adsorption due to the heterogeneous characteristics of ion-exchange site. The distribution coefficient was increased with pH of the solution which is in equilibrium with zeolite particles. The values of $K_d$ in the systems of AW500-Cs and 4A-Sr were found to be about $10^3cm^3/g$ and $10^3{\sim}10^4cm^3/g$ respectively.

  • Soil decontamination process was conducted to study adsorption and modeling characteristic of Sr$^{2+}$ ion using citric acid and water system with TRIGA soil. When the concentration of citric acid was increased, the BTC of Sr$^{2+}$ ion was to be closed to the BTC of $^3$$H_2O$ at experiments of soil adsorption. Beside, when the concentration of citric acid was under 0.01M Sr$^{2+}$ ion, BTLs was asymmetry. It was characteristic of nonequilibrium adsorption. R and $K_{p}$ , were decreased to be increased the concentration of citric acid. Asymmetry modeling was nearly the same to be compare with symmetry modeling in decontamination process, when the concentration of citric acid was decreased. Result of experiment was agree with asymmetry and symmetry model, when the concentration of citric acid was increased.eased.
