An analytical method has been developed to estimate the dynamic contact force between wheel and rail when trains are running on rail with vertical irregularities. In this method, the effect of Hertzian deformation at the contact point is considered as a linearized spring and the wheel is considered as an sprung mass. The rail is modelled as a discretely-supported Timoshenko beam, and the periodic structure theory was adopted to obtain the driving-point receptance. As an example, the dynamic contact force for a typical wheel/rail system was analysed by the method developed in this research and the dynamic characteristics of the system was also discussed. It is revealed that discretely-supported Timoshenko beam model should be used instead of the previously used continuously-supported model or discretelysupported Euler beam model, for the frequency range above several hundred hertz.
Rubber spring is used in primary suspension system for railway vehicle. This rubber spring has function which reduce vibration and noise, support the load carried in operation of rail vehicle. The non-linear properties of rubber which are described as strain energy function are important parameter to design and evaluate of rubber components. These are determined by material tests which are tension, compression and shear test. The behaviors of load-displacement of rubber spring for rail vehicle are evaluated by using commercial FEA code. It is shown that the results by FEA simulations are in close agreement with the test results

Railway noise and vibration has been recognized as major problems with the speed-up of rolling stock. As a kind of solution to these problems, the decrease of stiffness of track pad have been tried. However, in this case, overturning of rail due to lateral force should be considered because it can have effect on the safety of running train. Therefore, above two things - decrease of stiffness of track pad and overturning of rail due to lateral force - should be considered simultaneously for the appropriate determination of spring coefficient of track pad. With this viewpoint, minimum spring coefficient of track pad is estimated through the comparison between the theoretical relationship about the overturning of rail and 3-dimensional FE analysis result. Two kinds of Lateral force and wheel load are used as input loads. Extracted values from the conventional estimation formula and the Shinkansen design loads are used. It is found that the overturning of rail changes corresponding to the change of the stiffness of track pad and the ratio of lateral force to wheel load. Moreover, it is found that the analysis model can have influence on the results. Through these procedure, minimum spring coefficient of track pad is estimated.
In this paper, assessed are the stability of vehicle and track according to vertical support stiffness difference on the transition between conventional and zero-longitudinal resistance (ZLR) rail fastener on bridge. For this, the spring constants of rail fastener have been determined according to different load ranges - KTX load (with or without impact factor) and test load of EN standards - from results of laboratory test on rail pad, the stability analysis of vehicle and track has been performed according to numbers or installation length of ZLR fasteners using vertical vehicle-track coupled model to consider train-track interaction. The analysis results reveal that only the wheel load variation slightly exceed the limit value when 2 ZLR fasteners are used with spring constant determined within the EN test load range, but, in all other cases, all evaluation items are satisfied. Thus, it can be said that the stability of vehicle and track will not be degraded by ZLR fastener.

In the rail facilities the rail track consists of rail tie fastening accessories and bed,. The rail track is largely divided into Ballast Bed Track(BBT) and Concrete Bed Track(CBT) according to the type of bed. In this thesis among Concrete Bed Track slab track which is used for the Japanese high speed railway is a target of this study. Dynamic analysis by using finite element method are performed. where moving rain load is periodic function. Then through parametric study some conclusions are obtained as follow. Cement Asphalt Mortar(CAM) affects contrary mechanical behavior to rail and slab greatly. Therefore change of CAM spring coefficient should be handled with care, For slab thickness thin slab is more profitable to reduction of vibration of rail than thick one but mechanical capacity of slab is deteriorated, Improved structural type is proposed then structural analysis is performed for this one. This type is effective to reduction of vibration of railway system.
This paper describes the formulation and application of a dynamic model for a conventional rail track subjected to arbitary loading functions that simulate wheel/rail impact forces. The rail track is idealized as a periodic elastically coupled beam system resting on a Winkler foundation. Modal parameters of the track structure are first obtained from the natural vibration characteristics of the beam system, which is discretized into a periodic assembly of a specially-constructed track element and a single beam element characterized by their exact dynamic stiffness matrices. An equivalent frequency-dependent spring coefficient representing the resilient, flexural and inertial characteristics of the rail support components is introduced to reduce the degrees of freedom of the track element. The forced vibration equations of motion of the track subjected to a series of loading functions are then formulated by using beam bending theories and are reduced to second order ordinary differential equations through the use of mode summation with non-proportional modal damping. Numerical examples for the dynamic responses of a typical track are presented, and the solutions resulting from different rail/tie beam theories are compared.

In the case of the railway bridges, uplift forces were occurred at the edge of the segments when vehicular loads were applied. These forces caused the compressive and tensile forces in the fastening system. In the past, a structural analysis has been performed to investigate the safety of fastening system which was modeled with one directional spring elements based on the compressive test of fastening system. In this case, the stiffness of the spring element was obtained from experimental study which was conducted by compressive load. Therefore, to perform rational and exact structural analysis, the translational stiffness of the fastening system obtained from the experimental study applied the tensile load and the rotational stiffness should be considered because it was occurred the tensile force as well as the compressive force in fastening system. In this study, an elastic and inelastic experimental study was performed for six specimens. The translational stiffness along the vertical axis of rail and the rotational stiffness along the strong axis of rail were investigated, also structural behavior of the fastening system was analyzed.
In order to evaluate spring-back behavior in automotive sheet forming processes, a panel shape idealized as a double S-rail has been investigated. After spring-back has been predicted for double S-rails using the finite element analysis, results has been compared with experimental measurements for three automotive sheets. To account for hardening behavior such as the Bauschinger and transient effects in addition to anisotropic behavior, the combined isotropic-kinematic hardening law based on the Chaboche type model and a recently developed non-quadratic anisotropic yield function have been utilized, respectively.
Particularly derailing freight wagon, which are loaded with dangerous chemicals, has large damages on humans and environment. In this paper the dynamic characteristic of the laminated leaf spring under extreme situation, for example derailment, is examined. The leaf spring has a static hysteresis. Not only the friction value, but also the spring rate are influenced by this hysteresis characteristic. Because of the static hysteresis of the leaf spring the spring rate must be used in normal operation depending upon the loading and the kind of the excitation with the up to 10-fold value of the static spring rate. Some characteristics of the leaf spring can be treated like well-known viscous damping, but fer special situation (preload and/or excitation) particular calculation are necessary.
