  • This paper deals with the free, in-plane vibrations of curved members with the translational(radial and tangential directions) and rotational springs at the ends. The governing differential equations for the circular curved member are solved numerically using the corresponding boundary conditions. The lowest three natural frequencies and the corresponding mode shapes are obtained over a range of non-dimensional system parameters: the subtended angle, the slenderness ratio, the translational spring stiffness, and the rotational spring stiffness.

  • This paper deals with the free vibrations of immersed columns with soft base. The support condition of the column is represented by using a translational spring and a rotational spring. The eccentricity and rotatory inertia of the concentrated mass at the top are taken into account. In the governing equation for the free vibration of column, the density of immersed part was modified to account for the added fluid mass. The governing differential equations are solved numerically using the corresponding boundary conditions. Numerical results are presented to show the effects on the natural frequencies of non-dimensional system parameters: the mass density ratio of fluid to column, the ratio of fluid depth to span length, the ratio of tip mass to total column mass, the dimensionless mass moment of inertia, the eccentricity, the translation spring parameter, and the rotational spring parameter.

  • Time series of spring discharge data in Jeju island can provide abundant information on the spatial groundwater system. In this study, the classification based on time series of spring discharge was performed with clustering analysis: discharge rate and EC. Peak discharges are mainly observed in august or september. However, double peaks and late peaks of discharge are also observed at a plenty of springs. Based on results of clustering analysis, it can be deduced that GH model is not appropriate for the conceptual model of Groundwater system in Jeju island. EC distributions in dry season are also support the conclusion.

  • The free vibration of functionally graded material (FGM) beams on an elastic foundation and spring supports is investigated. Young's modulus, mass density and width of the beam are assumed to vary in thickness and axial directions respectively following the exponential law. The spring supports are also taken into account at both ends of the beam. An analytical formulation is suggested to obtain eigen solutions of the FGM beams. Numerical analyses, based on finite element method by using a beam finite element developed in this study, are performed in order to show the legitimacy of the analytical solutions. Some results for the natural frequencies of the FGM beams are given considering the effect of various structural parameters. It is also shown that the spring supports show the greatest effect on the natural frequencies of FGM beams.

  • In vibration-free vehicles such as limousine buses, the vibration is minimized by installing an air spring instead of the leaf spring used in the existing freight cars to prevent the damage to the loaded cargo from shocks generated during movement. In the existing vehicles, steel structures support the air spring system. This study was aimed at replacing the steel structures used in the Z-spring by carbon fiber and glass fiber reinforced plastics. In addition, the mechanical properties (elastic modulus, tensile strength, and shear strength) of carbon fiber and glass fiber prepreg were derived using specimens molded with the corresponding prepreg. The final goal was to develop a material lighter than the conventional steel material but with enhanced mechanical properties. Although the CF prepreg exhibited excellent mechanical properties, the production cost was extremely high. To overcome this limitation, hybrid composites with GF prepreg were examined, which are expected to be promising future materials.

  • In the periodic surveillance material test for the spacer component of fuel channel assembly in CANDU, a microstructural characterization analysis is required in addition to the mechanical property evaluation test. In this study, detailed microstructure analysis and simple mechanical property evaluation of archive spacer parts were conducted to indirectly support the surveillance test and assist in the study of spacer material degradation. We investigated the microstructural characteristics of the spacer garter spring coil through comparative analysis with the plate material. The main microstructure characteristics of the garter spring coil X-750 are represented by the fine grain size distribution, the ordering phase distribution developed inside the matrix, the high dislocation density inside the grains, and the arrangement of coarse carbides. In addition, the yield strength of the garter spring coil X-750 was indirectly evaluated to be approximately 1 GPa. We also established an analytical method to elucidate the microstructural evolution of the radioactive spacer garter spring coil X-750 based on Canadian research experiences. Finally, we confirmed the measurement technique for helium bubble formation through TEM examination on the helium implanted X-750 material.

  • We determined the relationships between calving season and the incidence of postpartum disorders, milk yield, and reproductive performance in dairy cows. Data regarding cow parity, postpartum disorders, milk yield, and reproduction were collected from 1,478 lactations. The incidence of retained placenta was higher in spring- and summer-calving cows than in autumn- and winter-calving cows (P < 0.05). The incidence of septicemic metritis was highest in spring- and summer-calving cows, and was higher in autumn-calving cows than in winter-calving cows (P < 0.05). The incidence of metabolic disorders was higher in summer-calving cows than in autumn- and winter-calving cows (P < 0.01). The mean milk yield 1 and 2 months after calving was higher in spring-calving cows than in summer-calving cows (P < 0.05). The percentage of cows that had resumed cycling, defined by detection of a corpus luteum using ultrasonography 4 weeks after calving, was highest in autumn-calving cows, and was higher in summer- and winter-calving cows than in spring-calving cows (P < 0.05). The hazard of first insemination by 150 days after calving was higher in summer- and autumn-calving cows (hazard ratio [HR] = 1.19; P < 0.05) than in spring-calving cows. The hazard of pregnancy by 210 days after calving was also higher in summer-calving (HR = 1.24; P < 0.05) and autumn-calving (HR = 1.59; P < 0.0001) cows than in spring-calving cows. The probability of conception at the first insemination was higher (P < 0.0001) in autumn-calving (odds ratio [OR] = 1.96) and winter-calving (OR = 2.04) cows than in spring-calving cows. In conclusion, spring calving is associated with the worst, and autumn calving with the best, postpartum health and reproductive performance, whereas milk yield is higher in spring-calving cows than in summer-calving cows. Therefore, an effective strategy to support postpartum health and fertility should be instituted for spring-calving dairy cows kept in the Korean climate.

  • Purpose - There have been local government systems since June 1955. Many local governments have made use of festivals for regional public relations and the achievement of competitiveness. This study analyzes effective components of local festivals. There has been extensive research in relation to variables such as participation motivation, satisfaction level, recall intention, royalty, and recommend purpose. However, as a variable factor, attachment to the participation motivation of a festival has been overlooked along with support level to a festival. This study has added new variables named "attachment to local society" and "support level," which are dependent variables. We will study the relationship of these two variables. Research design, data, and methodology - This study has devised a cause-and-effect relationship model, which deduces that local residents' participation motivation for the festival will have positive influence on the festival support level and satisfaction level. We circulated questionnaires to local residents to get the data required to prove the hypothesis. To analysis the data, we used SPSS 21.0, and accomplished basic analysis through the analysis of frequency as well as descriptive statistical analysis. Further, we verified our measurement tools through reliability analysis, and examined the research hypothesis through multiple regression analysis. Results - With regard to the festival satisfaction level, the variables of local society attachment, festival attraction, escaping from the daily life, and family harmony have influence upon a positive effect (+) in this order. Among them, the variable of local society attachment has the greatest influence. However, in respect of support level for the festival, only the variables of local society attachment and escaping from the daily life have a valid influence on the positive effect (+), and local society attachment has relatively greater influence. In addition, not only does the festival satisfaction level affect the support level for the festival in terms of positive effect, the influence is also far-reaching, which verifies the mediating effect. Conclusions - The result shows that the local residents' satisfaction level with the Yudalsan Mountain Spring Flower Festival is comparatively high, which is due to the local society attachment. It also shows that it is difficult to create support without local residents' attachment with their area. Consequently, this study insists that the Yudalsan Mountain Spring Flower Festival should exceed its limitation as just a village-level party, in order to become a remarkable and outstanding festival, and suggests three operational implications: macro-environmental development, task environment development, and internal operational environmental development. From the macro-environmental perspective, the constant development of local culture and local business is proposed. In the task environment perspective, a new functional development for the festival is proposed. From the internal operational environmental perspective, improvements in festival operation methods are proposed. If these weak points are addressed and resolved through a more detailed approach, it will be very helpful for local government systems to operate the festival.

  • When the track designer analyze the track structure uses many known & unknown parameters. Unknown parameters, equivalent rail support spring factor, unit rail support spring factor, track damping coefficient, should be assumed. Known parameters are section properties (area, section factor, etc), material properties(modulus of elasticity, mass, etc) and track conditions(wheel load, loading conditions, gauge, etc.). In the assumption of track design parameters, some parameters can be overestimated or under estimated. The purpose of this study is to verify design parameters used in track design, in the way of experimental measurements. Data of displacements, banding stresses, loads, accelerations are measurable at track site. From these data, unknown parameters are derived. Compare these assumed and derived parameters, estimate the entire track stability.

  • When oil pressure of damper is lost or relative stiffness of spring drops in vibration system, it can be fatally dangerous situation. A fault diagnosis method for vibration system using Support Vector Machine(SVM)is suggested in the paper. SVM is used to classify input data or applied to function regression. System status can be classified by judging input data based on optimal separable hyperplane obtained using SVM which learns normal and abnormal status. It is learned from the relationship of system state variables in term of spring, mass and damper. Normal and abnormal status are learned using phase plane as in put space, then the learned SVM is used to construct algorithm to predict the system status quantitatively
