This paper is investigated of hardness and adhesiveness of plasma sprayed coating steels by AE(Acoustic Emission) testing when loading a tensile. AE Parameters used are Event, Count, Energy and Amplitude. Test specimens are carbon steel(S45C) with sprayed coating layers of Ni-4.5wt.%Al(bond coating) and $TiO_2$(top coating), and carry out heat treatment at $800^{\circ}C\;and\;1000^{\circ}C$, respectively. The micro-hardness of the heat treatment specimen have been improved more than that of non-heat treatment. On the tensile test, the process and occurence of the exfoliation of the sprayed coating layer can be estimated by AE Characteristics of AE parameters, such as event, count, amplitude and energy, on the layer exfoliation are shown the similar aspects. The exfoliation of bond coating occure at about 20% of strain and top coating is about 5% of strain.
High Temperature wear behavior of plasma sprayed zirconia coatings containing up to 10 mol% of Fe$_2$O$_3$ were investigated. The wear test results showed that the addition of Fe$_2$O$_3$ particles to zirconia improved the wear resistance and lowered the coefficient of friction. Optimum concentration of Fe$_2$O$_3$ was about 5 mol%. Similar degradation behavior was observed at about 40$0^{\circ}C$ for both zirconia and Fe$_2$O$_3$ added zirconia coatings. The results indicated that stabilization of tetragonal phase and changes in mechanical properties such as hardness and toughness were responsible for tribological behavior of plasma sprayed zirconia contain Fe$_2$O$_3$.
The purpose of this investigation is to examine the effects of the strengthening treatments on the mechanical properties of the flame-sprayed titania ceramic coating layer. The strengthening treatments for flame sprayed specimens were carried out in 12 different conditions in vaccum furance. The mechanical properties such as microhardness, thermal shock resistance, adhesive strength and erosion resistance were tested for the sprayed specimens after strengthening treatments. And it was clear that the mechanical properties of coating layer were much improved by the strengthening treatments. The results obtained are summarized as follows; 1. It was shown that the metallurgical bond was formed between substrate and coating layer by the strengthening treatments and that thermal shock resistance and adhesive strength were remarkably raised. 2. Microhardness of coating lay was considerably increased by the strengthening treatments. 3. Erosion resistance and porosity of coating layer were slightly improved by the strengthening treatments.
This paper reports histologic and histomorphometric results concerning bone healing around vent area of 16 titanium plasma sprayed IMZ implants in rabbit femurs. Bone contact around the implants 8 weeks after placement showed a great deal of variability from 14.32% to 65.94% and mean total bone contact was 33.96%. The mean percent amount of bone contact was 43.68% in inner surface of vent and 27.79% in outer surface. Histologic examination of horizontal sections of vent area showed direct contact with living lamellar bone and some woven bone. The implants surface area not in contact with bone was in contact with collagenous connective tissue. But there was no sign of foreign-body reaction.

The purpose of this investigation is to examine the effects of spraying conditions on the mechanical properties of flame-sprayed titania ceramic coating layer. Titania ceramic was sprayed onto the mild steel substrate under the various spraying conditions. Spraying distances were 100, 150, 200, 250mm respectively and pinch air pressures were 0.2 0.3, 0.4 MPa at each spraying distance. The mechanical properties such as microhardness, adhesive strength and erosion wear resistance were tested for the specimens sprayed under the various spraying conditions above mentioned. The optimum operational conditions obtained through the experimental results were 150mm of spraying distance and 0.3 MPa of pinch air pressure.
This study aims at investigating the wear behavior of thermally sprayed Ni-based self-flux alloy coatings against different counterparts. Ni-based self-flux alloy powders were flame-sprayed onto a carbon steel substrate and then heat-treated at temperature of $1000^{\circ}C$. Dry sliding wear tests were performed using the sliding speeds of 0.2 and 0.8 m/s and the applied loads of 5 and 20 N. AISI 52100, $Al_2O_3$, $Si_3N_4$ and $ZrO_2$ balls were used as counterpart materials. Wear behavior of Ni-based self-flux alloy coatings against different counterparts were studied using a scanning electron microscope(SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX). It was revealed that wear behavior of Ni-based self-flux alloy coatings were much influenced by counterpart materials.
Wear and friction behavior of plasma-sprayed coatings in Mo- and Co-based alloy were studied for the application of piston-ring automobile engine. The plasma-sprayed coatings were varied with gun current density, gas flow, and distance. The surface roughness, microhardness, and wear volume were measured depending on the spray distances. The high temperature hardness value were also measured as a function of temperature. Ball-on-disc geometry configuration tribometer was utilized in air. The wear tests were performed in the temperature ranges from room temperature to 825$^{\circ}$C to investigate the tribological trend of the piston-ring materials in the lack of lubricant. The cross sections of wear track were investigated, using microscopy.

For improvement of wear resistance property of atmospheric thermal plasma sprayed molybdenum (Mo) coating, diamond deposition on the atmospheric plasma sprayed molybdenum coating by the combustion flame chemical vapor deposition (CFCVD) has been operated. In this study, to diminish the thermal damage of the substrate during operation, a thermal insulator was equipped between substrate and water-cooled substrate holder. Consequently, diamond particles could be created on the Mo coating without fracture and peeling off. From these results, it was found that this process had a high potential in order to improve wear resistance of thermal sprayed coating.
The sliding wear behavior of the plasma sprayed zirconia containing 8wt% yttria was investigated over a range of room temperature to 800℃. Both of the friction coefficient and the wear loss increased reaching its maximum at about to 499℃. and then decreased again with increasing temperature up to 800℃. The worn surface at elevated temperature were observed and analyzed by scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffractometer to study the mechanisms of high temperature wear behavior. Surface morphology of the worn samples changes with temperature. Monoclinic (m)/tetragonal (t) x-ray peak intensity ratio of wear debris and worn surface decreased with increasing temperature. Non-transformable tetragonal (t') to metastable tetragonal (t) phase transformation of worn surface increased with increasing temperature. The results indicate that dehumidification and above phase changes are contributing to the high temperature wear behavior of the plasma sprayed ZrO2-Y2O3 coatings.
Alumina were added to ceria based ceramic powders upto 9.7 vol% and composite powders were sprayed by plasma spraying process in order to improve the mechanical properties such as hardness fracture tough-ness and thermal shock resistance. The ceria based coating sprayed without alumina has the typical colum-nar and lamellar structure. Alumina addition has lowered the amount of columnar and lamellar sturcture Added alumina was segreagated in the grain boundary and grain of ceria based crystal accompanied with pore. The maximum value of density and the minimum value of porosity were observed at the sprayed coating with 4.8 vol% alumina. The hardness fracture toughness and thermal shock resistance were increased with alumina addition. The improvement of mechanical properties of plasma sparyed ceria based coatings result-ed from the disapperance of the columnar and lamellar sturcture by addition of alumina.
