One of the most powerful health management practices is the use of antibiotics, but their use is being restricted because of health safety issues. The swine industry has been looking for various alternatives to antibiotics and increasingly considers the use of dietary factors like feed ingredients, feed additives, feed formulation practices, or feeding methods, instead of using antibiotics to improve pig health and performance. Among other alternatives to antibiotics, spray-dried plasma may be a candidate. Spray-dried plasma is a blood product that provides bioavailable nutrients and physiologically active components such as immunoglobulins, glycoproteins, growth factors, peptides, etc. It is an excellent protein source with balanced and highly digestible amino acids. Several beneficial physiological activities depend on components of spray-dried plasma, such as immune competence (antibacterial activity), modulation of microbiota and/or immune system, integrity of intestinal barrier function, etc. These beneficial effects can contribute to improvement of pig performance and health by modulation of microbiota in the digestive tract and/or immune system. Therefore, it is suggested that spray-dried plasma has great potential as an antibiotics alternative.
The intent of this research is to acquire some basic informations about formulation of the viral pesticide, Hyphantria cunea nuclear polyhedrosis virus and its virulence under field condition. The nuclear polyhedrosis virus was formulated as wettable powder using spreader, sticker and U.V. protector. The formulated product and aqueous virus were diluted with water at the concentration of 1${\times}$106PIB/ml and sprayed on mulberry leaves in the field. The leaves were fed with 3rd instar larvae of H. cunea to determine the inactivation period of the viral pesticides. The aqueous virus was completely inactivated on 5th day after spray, while the formulated one showed a spare mortality to the larvae even on 20th day after spray. In field application test, The fromulated and aqueous virus were sprayed on individual mulberry tree and 3rd instar laevae of H. cunea were fed on the trees. The mortality of the larvae one day after spray of the formulated and aqueous virus were about 50% and 40%, respectively. The formulated virus exhibited a persistent virulence to the larvae up to 9th day after spray, which the mortality was approximately 30%. The residual virulence of the formulated and aqueous virus was extended up to 4th day and 2nd day after spray, respectively.
In order to predict droplet velocity and temperature profiles and fractional solidification with flight distance during spray forming, the Newtonian heat transfer formulation has been coupled with the classical heterogeneous nucleation and the specific solidification process. It has been demonstrated that the thermal profile of the droplet in flight is significantly affected by process parameters such as droplet size, initial gas velocity, undercooling. As the droplet size and/or the initial gas velocity increase, the onset and completion of solidification are shifted to greater flight distances and the solidification process also extends over a wider range of flight distances. The amounts of solid fractions formed during recoalescence, segregated solidification and eutectic solidification are insensitive to droplet size and initial gas velocity whereas those are strongly affected by the degree of undercooling. There are good linear relations between the undercooling and the corresponding solid fractions generated during recoalesced, segregated and eutectic stages.
Gas motion within the engine cylinder is one of the major factors controlling the fuel-air mixing and combustion processes in diesel engines. In this paper, a special swirl-chamber is designed and applied to a DI (direct injection) diesel engine to generate a strong swirl motion thus enhancing gas motion. Compression, combustion and expansion strokes of this DI diesel engine with the swirl-chamber have been simulated by CFD software. The simulation model was first validated through comparisons with experimental data and then applied to do the simulation of the spray and combustion process. The velocity and temperature field inside the cylinder showed the influences of the strong swirl motion to spray and combustion process in detail. Cylinder pressure, average temperature, heat release rate, total amount of heat release, indicated thermal efficiency, indicated fuel consumption rate and emissions of this DI diesel engine with swirl-chamber have been compared with that of the DI diesel engine with $\omega$-chamber. The conclusions show that the engine with swirlchamber has the characteristics of fast mixture formulation and quick diffusive combustion; its soot emission is 3 times less than that of a $\omega$-chamber engine; its NO emission is 3 times more than that of $\omega$-chamber engine. The results show that the DI diesel engine with the swirl-chamber has the potential to reduce emissions.

Experiments were performed in a two-phase swirling spray facility that has been described elsewhere. Measurements of spray transport and drop size distribution are analyzed over wide ranges of air to liquid mass flow ratios, utilizing four different internal mixing pneumatic nozzles. The spatial distributions of mean velocities. fluctuating velocities, and velocity-diameter correlation were quantitatively analyzed. Also, the exponential correlation curves were obtained with ALR along the spray centerline, which indicated an approximately identical formulation regardless of ALR. It indicated that the atomization characteristics were remarkably superior in the case of 30o of swirl angle with higher ALR. Among other things. nozzle configuration is one of the significant parameters affecting spray phenomena from an internal mixing nozzle. Turbulence intensities are increasingly degenerated with an increase of nozzle configuration, allowing a rapid increment of drop size distribution.
A theoretical and experimental study was carried out on the prediction of drop size distribution of the pressure swirl atomizer. Drop size distribution was obtained by using maximum entropy formal ism. Several constraints in the form of the definition of mean diameter were used in this formulation in order to avoid the difficulties of the estimating source terms. In this study $D_{10}$ was only introduced into the formulation as a constraint. A drop size obtained by using linear Kelvin-Helmholtz instability theory was considered as an unknown characteristic length scale. As a result, the calculated drop size was agreed well with measured mean diameter, particularly with $D_{32}$. The predicted drop size distribution was agreed welt with experimental data measured wi th Malvern 2600.

Purpose. To prepare polymer based physical mixtures or solid dispersions containing solubilizing compositions using a spray-dryer. Methods. Lovastatin.simvastatin.aceclofenac and cisapride were selected as poorly water-soluble drugs. Dextrin. poly(vinylalcohol). poly(vinylpyrrolidone)and polyethylene glycol were chosen as solubilizing carriers for solid dispersions. The solid dispersions containing solubilizing compositions without drug were prepared without using organic solvents or tedious changes of formulation compositions. (omitted)

The insecticidal activity of 124 plant essential oils and control efficacy of six experimental spray formulations (SF) containing 0.25, 0.5, 1, 2.5, 5, and 10% of the selected oils was examined against both nymph and adult of the citrus flatid planthopper, Metcalfa pruinosa using direct contact applications (leaf dipping and spray). Reponses varied according to dose (1,000 and 500 mg/L). When exposed at 1,000 mg/L for 24 h using leaf dipping assay, 19 essential oils showed strong mortality (100%) among 124 essential oils screened. At 500 mg/L, 100% mortality was observed in cinnamon technical, cinnamon green leaf, cinnamon #500, cassia tree, citronella java and pennyroyal followed by origanum, thyme white, grapefruit, savory, fennel sweet, aniseed and cinnamon bark showed considerable mortality (93.3-80%) against nymphs of M. pruinosa. The moderate mortality (73.3-60%) was found in thyme red, tagetes, calamus, lemoneucalptus and geranium. Oils applied as SF-10% sprays provided 100 % mortality against adult M. pruinosa. One hundred mortalities were achieved in cinnamon technical at >SF-0.5 formulation, in cinnamon #500, cinnamon green leaf and penny royal at >SF-2.5. To reduce the level of highly toxic synthetic insecticides in the agricultural environment, the active essential oils as potential larvicides could be provided as an alternative to control M. pruinosa populations.
The seaweed (Ascophyllum nodosum) extracts and chitosan formulations were sprayed on species of creeping bentrgass (Agrostis palustris Huds) cultivar "Penn A1" and species of Kentucky bluegrass (Poa pratensis L.) mixed cultivars (Midnight 33%, Moonlight 33%, Prosperity 33%) during fall season in sod farm. Turf color, chlorophyll contents and NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index) to affect turf qualities were investigated. There were detected significantly difference on chlorophyll contents and DNVI with seaweed extracts and chitosan formulations treatments. The contents of chlorophyll and NDVI on species of Kentucky bluegrass mixed cultivars and species of creeping bentgrass cultivar "Penn A1" were significantly increased by foliar spray with chitosan formulations and seaweed extracts. There was not a significantly difference on leaf color in two species within cultivars. These results suggested that chitosan formulations and seaweed extracts may help for turfgrass managements in the golf course during fall season.

Stability, efficacy, absorption and toxicity of a new nasal spray formulation including salmon calcitonin were studied in the laboratory animals. After the effects of many excipients on the stability of salmon calcitonin were evaluated using HPLC system, we selected taurine. Our experimental composition of salmon calcitonin contains taurine as a stabilizer and HPMC (hydroxypropylmethyl cellulose) as an adhesive polymer. After intranasal administration of salmon calcitonin formulations, Mia$\^$(R)/, Men$\^$(R)/ and experimental composition, 22 IU to rats, the reduction percentages of calcium concentration in plasma (ΔD%) were 16.3%, 12.9% and 20.8%, respectively. After intranasal administration of Mia$\^$(R)/, Men$\^$(R)/ and experimental composition to rats, C$\sub$MAX/ (205${\pm}$161, 244${\pm}$117, and 330${\pm}$202 pg/$m\ell$, respectively) and AUC (41585${\pm}$22070, 41191${\pm}$19125, and 63357${\pm}$43126 pg. min/$m\ell$, respectively) were calculated. The permeation coefficients 10$\^$-7/,cm/sec) of salmon calcitonin in Mia$\^$(R)/, Men$\^$(R)/ and experimental composition using Ussing chamber with rabbit nasal mucosa were 4.7${\pm}$1.5, 0.75${\pm}$0.4 and 5.3${\pm}$1.1, respectively. The experimental composition with taurine and HPMC was proved to be excellent because it improved the stability of salmon calcitonin and inhanced the absorption of salmon calcitonin and was not irritative to the nasal mucosa.
