A Study on the Mechanical Properties of Joints in Laser Transmission Joining of Polymers (폴리머의 레이저 투과접합 시 접합부의 기계적 성질에 관한 연구)

  • Laser Transmission Joining (LTJ) of plastics is a process in which light of suitable wavelength is transmitted through a transparent substrate that is in contact with an absorbing one. In this paper, LTJ is investigated by preliminary experiments from the viewpoint of mechanical engineering. To understand transmitting characteristics of each polymer substrate, transmission rate, reflection rate and absorption coefficient of polymer are measured by using a laser power-meter. Characteristics of joining in the spot welding and seam welding are investigated by measuring the fracture load. Fracture load increases in accordance to the laser power and irradiation time. However, when the laser power is over 60W and irradiation time over 4seconds, fracture load decreases. This phenomenon is probably due to heat-softening of materials. Besides, cavities are generated at a joint by evaporation of water molecules, which can be suppressed by introduction of a gap between two substrates.

  • 최근 자동차 산업은 고효율 및 친환경이라는 전세계적인 이슈에 따라 고연비의 자동차 개발에 총력을 다하고 있다. 그러므로 다양한 고강도 강 및 경량 금속이 자동차의 차체에 적용되고 있다. 특히 철강재료에 있어서 기존의 저 탄소강에서 다양한 기능을 갖은 고강도 강으로 그 종류가 다양화되고 있으며 이에 따라 저항 점용접을 이용한 차체의 접합은 점점 이종의 강판을 접합하는 비율이 점차로 늘어나고 있다. 이와 같이 강판의 종류가 다양해짐에 따라 수많은 이종 강판에 대한 조합이 생기고 있으며, 이를 모두 실험을 통해 최적 용접조건을 찾기에는 많은 시간과 노력이 투자되어야 된다. 그러나 시뮬레이션 기법으로 이종 접합의 초기 용접조건에 대한 정보를 얻는다면, 최소의 실험을 통해 좀 더 손쉽게 최적의 용접조건을 도출할 수 있다. 그러므로 본 연구에서는 실제 자동차에 많이 쓰이는 강판인 EDDQ급 도금강판 0.7t와 440R 급 1.2t 및 DP 590 1.0t의 3종류의 이종 강판에 대한 점 용접특성을 저항 점용접 전문 소프트웨어인 SORPAS를 이용하여 시뮬레이션하고 분석하였다. 시뮬레이션은 겹치기 순서에 따라 용접 전류, 가압력, 용접 시간을 변수로 하여 각각의 겹침 순서에 대한 2개의 용접 점에 대한 너겟의 크기를 분석하였으며 로브 곡선을 얻을 수 있었다. 이를 통해 3겹의 겹치기 순서에 따른 용접 특성을 비교할 수 있었으며, 이것을 실제 생산라인의 자동차 차체의 조립 순서 결정에 있어서 응용함으로써 용접 특성을 고려한 차체 조립에 적용이 가능할 것으로 사료된다.

  • Most fossil power plants and many critical components will be approaching the end of their nominal design life. At the same time, utilities are finding it economically attractive to extend the use of these plants for several more years, Especially Main steam pipe that operated under high temperature and pressure, often under the more severe operating conditions associated with cycling duty, is most important pipe system and critical component in fossil power plant. To extend the viability of older pipe system and to improve the operation and maintenance reliability, some technologies of precise diagnosis and life management have evolved out of the necessity. The purpose of this study is to descrive the related technologies and show the example of one power plants. The branch area from main steam to turbine was the high stressed zone. To evaluate the degradation of the pipe material, replica, visual check, magnetic test, hardness test were done at the welding spot. The degradation level of welding point was E/F, so the remaining life of the welded area was about 0-25%.

Macro and Micro-electrochemical Characteristics on Dissimilar Welding Metal of Double Wall Gas Pipe for Duel Fuel Engine (이중 연료 엔진용 이중벽 가스 배관 이종 용접부의 매크로 및 마이크로 전기화학적 특성)

  • This study compared the macro and micro electrochemical characteristics at the local area of welding metal on dissimilar welding parts for type 304 stainless steel (SS) and type 316L SS. The materials are used for double wall gas pipe of duel fuel engine for a ship. The various potentiodynamic experiments were performed several times in 10% ${H_2C_2O_2}{\cdot}{H_2O}$ solution using macro and micro methods, respectively. The micro electrochemical experiments conducted to resolve at local area on cross-section of dissimilar welding materials by micro-droplet cell device. The micro-droplet cell techniques can be used almost electrochemical experiments to resolve corrosion characteristics of the limited electrode area of the metallic surface between wetted spot of working electrode and tip of sharpened capillary tube. The results of macro electrochemical experiments show that resistance of active dissolution reaction at welding zone was high due to low current density by formation of passivation protection film at passive region. According to the micro electrochemical experiment, the corrosion current density of welding zone and bond zone were relatively high.

  • In welding machine that executes existing spot welding, wrong operation of system has often occurs because of their mechanical motion that can be caused by a number of supply like the welding object. In exposed working environment for various situations such as worker or related equipment moving into any place that we are unable to exactly distinguish between good and not condition of nut. Also, in case of defective welding of nut, it needs various evaluation and analysis through image processing because the problem that worker should be inspected every single manually. Therefore in this paper, if the object was not stabilization state correctly, we have purpose to algorithm implementation that it is to reduce the analysis time and exact recognition as to improve system of image processing. As this like, as image analysis for assessment whether it is good or not condition of nut, in his paper, implemented algorithms were suggested and list by group and that it showed the effectiveness through more than one experiment. As the result, recognition rate of normality and error according to the estimation time have been shown as 40%~94.6% and 60%~5.4% from classification 1 of group 1 to classification 11 of group 5, and that estimation time of minimum, maximum, and average have been shown as 1.7sec.~0.08sec., 3.6sec.~1.2sec., and 2.5sec.~0.1sec.

Fatigue characteristics of spot welding between high strength steel and galvanized steel sheet (고장력 강판과 아연도금 강판문의 점용접 피로특성)

  • High strength steels (HS) of dual phase and monogalvanized steel sheets (GA ; plated plane, GAB ; bare plane0 were used to investigate the fatigue strengths of four kinds of single-spot-welded joint specimen under tensile-shear repeated load. The specimen is classified as the same mating metal specimen (HS*HS, GA*GAB) and different mating metal specimen (HS*GA, HS*GAB). Some of the results are ; (1) Static tensile load of single-spot-welded joint specimens is proportional to tensile strength of metal and rigidity of mating metal sheet. (2) Fatigue life of HS*HS specimens increased about 20% longer than that of GA*GAB specimens in low cycle range. (3) In different mating metal specimens, the fatigue life of HS*GA specimens increased about 84% more that of HS*HS specimens in high cycle range.

  • Tubular member is hollow and is an excellent source of structural member with great buckling resistance and tortional resistance. With its development and simplicity in structure, steel tubular truss has the ability to be structured in long span bridges, without a stiffener. Recently, it has been used in many countries in Europe, Canada, Japan, and the US with the help of international committees such as CIDECT(International Committee for the Development and Study of Tubular Structures and International Institute of Welding). The most important problem when using the tubular member is the fact that it is difficult to test the fatigue stress determined by nominal stress, since geometrical stress concentration occurs due to the welded joint's nod of complexity. The purpose of this study is to compare and examine current theories and widely applied Hot Spot stress determinations through finite element analysis, which is about welded joints of steel tubular truss. We would like to suggest a way of design practice which involves a bridge plan with rarely domestically used steel tubular truss` basic research data as well as considering the future of tubular member.

  • 자동차제조에 있어서의 용접은 신뢰성 양산과 생력화에 대응하여 접합 조립하는 방법으로 특이한 분야를 형성하여 발전되었다. 예를 들면, 자동차의 생산은 기본적으로 양산체제를 갖추고 있 어서, 일반적으로 노동집약형 산업이라고 불리어지며 그 제조공정을 보면 stamping press 공정과 같이 용접공정도 비교적 장치산업적인 분야로 빠르게 자동화나 성인화 내지 무인화로 진행되고 있다. 자동차용접은 사람이 portable spot welder로 한점씩 용접하지만 양산에 대비한 합리화와 안정화를 위하여 다점용접 (multi spot weld)라는 자동화공법의 도입이 불가피하며 금일의 자 동차생산에 있어서 상식화가 되고 있다. 이것은 한개의 차체라면 차형의 대조 또는 press panel의 수에 따라 차이가 조금 있으나 약 4-5 천점의 점용접이 필요하기 때문에 여러 가지 반송장치와 조합하여 대규모의 line설비로 발전되어 가고 있다. 이와 같이 용접공정의 자동화는 생산성을 높이는 반면에 전용성이 높기 때문에 설계변경에 대한 초기투자의 용접설비 대부분을 갱신하여야 하는 새로운 투자의 필요문제가 증대되었다. 이러한 전용설비에 대한 유연성을 가미한 자동차로 지향되어, 그 한 방법으로 산업용 robot가 도입되었다. 근래에 와서는 자동차제조에 있어서 새 로운 용접기술을 합리적으로 효과있게 적용하는 기술이 금후의 연구과제라 하겠다.

FATIGUE STRENGTH OF FILLET WELDED STEEL STRUCTURE UNDER OUT-OF-PLANE BENDING LOAD

  • The effect of out-of-plane loads on the fatigue strength of welded steel structures is examined through fatigue tests with weldment of two fillet weld joint types. The results of the fatigue tests are compared with those under axial loads, on the basis of the hot spot stress range at the weld toe. From the result of the comparison, a method on how to incorporate the effect of the out-of-plane bending stress is proposed using design S-N curves derived from fatigue tests under the axial load. The proposed method is useful for rational assessment of the fatigue strength of fillet-welded structures, where combined stresses of the in-plane axial stress and the out-of-plane bending stress are induced simultaneously due to the complexity of applied loads and structural geometry.

  • The technology of Laser lamination joining of silicon steel sheets has been studied in this paper. Conventional sheets lamination process does not meet the requirments for the improvement electric parts performance. In response to this, a new Laser spot joining method has been developed. This study performs the Laser spot lamination joining while synchronizing the sillicon steel sheets in the dies with the press movement. Several conclusions have been drawn in this paper. Effects of beam focus, power, atmosphere gas and press oil etc.
