  • This study aims to quantitatively compare and analyze kinetic variables in the motion of male and female professional golfers to suggest basic scientific materials for golf iron swing. Five male and five female professional golfers participated in this experiment. Ground reaction force and foot pressure were measured during performing 10 swings for each participants using an iron club. The result of the ground reaction force indicates that the force occurs at the left foot toward right(-) direction in the mid-downswing(E3) and impact(E4) events in X-axis, while it occurs at the right foot toward anterior(-) direction in Y-axis for both male and female, showing a big difference between them. Also, in Z-axis, large force occurs at the left foot in most events. The analyzed result on foot pressure indicates that men have the highest pressure and area at the left foot, and women have the highest ones at the right foot in the mid-downswing(E3) and impact(E4) events in the max foot pressure, ground contact area and average pressure. It is considered that there is difference of central movement methods between men and women. Thus, different education and training on golf swing should be necessary by gender due to their different patterns of golf iron swing.

  • The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has been adjudicating on sports-related disputes since 1984. CAS can be regarded as world supreme court for sports settling down about 4200 cases including doping issues. Doping disputes are generally processed by CAS Appeals division and Anti-Doping Division. An appeal against the decision by sports-related bodies may be filed with CAS Appeals Division. Doping issues concerning Olympic games are on Anti-Doping Division, introduced from 2016 Olympic games and invested with complete authority by IOC. The Award of Maria Sharapova finds a player is responsible if found to have committed any Anti-Doping Rule Violation regardless of his/her intention or fault. It offers detailed jurisprudence on imposing such a specific period of ineligibility in view of the totality of the circumstances. The award of Xinyi Chen also confirms the Strict Liability Rule on anti-doping disputes. The player appealed there could be either accidental contamination of drinks, or doping laboratories' mistakes that affected the test results. But, all of them were rejected. Though dealing with doping disputes in a timely manner is important for seasonal sports events like Olympic games, it is necessary to prepare the acceptable and fair process for the players in the future.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the kinematics of the women's triple jump event at the 2011 Daegu World a Chmpionships by comparing them to those of the 2009 Berlin World Championships. The kinematic data were gathered from two steps before take off to the landing using a 7-camera panorama system. The data were then divided into 3 phases for each of the 8 participants. Similar average results were found the final contestants in the Daegu and Berlin championships, 14.58 m and 14.51 m, respectively. The first step had a relatively short length percentage (29%) compared to the hop and jump (36% and 35%, respectively). At the take off, the horizontal velocity was the lowest for the step, followed by the hop and jump. These results were different from the results for the men, who had an order of hop, step, and jump. Overall, in a comparison of the Daegu and Berlin participants, the vertical speed at take off for the three events was reduced compared to the horizontal speed.

  • The Broadcasting Law amended in January 2007 declared to adopt universal right to view(known more widely as Universal Access Right, UAR), the right to access broadcasting programs on such major sports or other events that are likely to catch the gaze of the public television viewers. Then its implementation rule was issued in February 2008, and under the regulations the Committee of Ensuring Universal Access Right has been established, where detailed action measures and guidelines are currently in the process of preparing. However, it is no question that an effectiveness of the implementation system of Universal Access Right presupposes sufficient amount of discussion and social consensus. At present, the major focus in this issue is on the matters including which type of events is subject to UAR and what criteria are desirable in determining which broadcasting company has priority. In this context, this study aims at identifying implications for policy by examining the precedent cases of Europe, Australia, and other countries, where UAR is enacted and implemented. Further, this study tries to draw up a specific scheme for ensuring universal right to view through conducting a survey on public television viewers. We will include specific guidelines for selecting events of public attention, criteria for selecting broadcasting companies regarding priority, and relevant operating rules regarding relayed broadcasting.

  • According to the conventional studies on the noise and cardiovascular effect, railway noise is better associated with hypertension and adverse cardiovascular events than road traffic noise. But the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. We investigated the hypothesis that exposure to acute railway noise would the unfavorable effect of cardiovascular and autonomic system in healthy young subjects. Using a randomized, sham-controlled cross-over design, ten subjects were assigned to receive either an exposure to high speed train noise (84 dB) for 30 minutes or a control condition (non noise), separated by two days. Blood pressure, heart rate, augmentation index and heart rate variability as indices of cardiovascular and autonomic system function were measured at baseline, during, and recovery from two trials. The results show that exposure to acute railway noise significantly increased diastolic blood pressure and augmentation index, which may cause of adverse cardiovascular effects.

  • The purpose of this study was to provide information about kinematic variables of the gliding and delivery motion of Hyung-Keun Lee, a high school shot putter who was ranked 1st at the 2011 National Sports Festivals. Three-Dimensional motion analysis using a system of 4 video cameras at a sampling frequency of 60 Hz was conducted during shot-putting events at the 2011 National Sports Festivals. During the gliding and delivery phase of the player the results showed following characteristics; 1) The gliding technique types of the player appeared to be the short-long technique as the gliding and stance length ratio were $42.3{\pm}3.87$ % and $57.7{\pm}3.87$ %, respectively. In addition, the trajectory of shots during the gliding and delivery phase showed different trajectory patterns with "S-shaped" type of elite players due to the deviation from a central axis of the APSS (athletic-plus shot system). 2) The horizontal velocity of COG made from gliding should maintain the velocity during transition and release phase, but the player showed a small momentum for a gradual decrease of velocity. 3) Therefore, the player requires to adjust an appropriate ratio between gliding and stance length with a strong muscle power at the trunk, throwing arm, and the lower extremity during gliding and delivery phase.

  • Predicting outcome of the sports enables teams to establish their strategy by analyzing variables that affect overall game flow and wins and losses. Many studies have been conducted on the prediction of the outcome of sports events through statistical techniques and machine learning techniques. Predictive performance is the most important in a game prediction model. However, statistical and machine learning models show different optimal performance depending on the characteristics of the data used for learning. In this paper, we propose a new ensemble model to predict English Premier League soccer games using statistical models and the machine learning models which showed good performance in predicting the results of the soccer games and this model is possible to select a model that performs best when predicting the data even if the data are different. The proposed ensemble model predicts game results by learning the final prediction model with the game prediction results of each single model and the actual game results. Experimental results for the proposed model show higher performance than the single models.
