  • To set the estimated energy requirement (EER) in Dietary Reference Intakes for Koreans (KDRI), we need the coefficient by physical activity stage, as determined by the physical activity level(PAL). Thus, there has been demand for a tool to calculate PAL based on the physical activity diary. This study was undertaken to develop a physical activity (PA) classification table for Koreans, using the 2011 Compendium of physical activities in the United States. The PA classification table for Koreans contains 262 codes, and values of the metabolic equivalent of task (MET) for specific activities. Of these, 243 PAs which do not have Korean specific data or information, were selected from the 2011 Compendium of PAs that originated in the United States; another 19 PAs were selected from the previous research data of Koreans. The PA classification table is codified to facilitate the selection of energy values corresponding to each PA. The code for each PA consists of a single letter alphabet (activity category) and four numeric codes that display the activity type (2 digit number), activity intensity (1 digit number), and specific activities (1 digit number). In addition, the intensity (sedentary behavior, low, middle and high) of specific PA and its rate of energy expenditure in MET are presented together. The activity categories are divided into 4 areas: Daily Activity (A), Movement (B), Occupation (C), and Exercise and Sports (D). The developed PA classification table can be applied to quantify the energy cost of PA for adults in research or practice, and to assess energy expenditure and physical activity levels based on self-reported PA.

  • This study compares and analyzes the classes in the major special areas in the sociology, called “branch sociology,” included in the Korean Decimal Classification 4th edition and Dewey Decimal Classification 21st edition. Especially it analyzes the related classes of specified areas (branch sociology) of sociology including those of arts and sports, sciences, languages, society, region, etc. class by class. In this analysis two systems show many differences in the classes included and in the locations of some classes. This analysis can be useful for the future revision of KDC.

  • The aim of this study is to provide fundamental data on the development of ready-to-wear clothes appropriate for the body types of elderly women. The study was conducted targeting 318 elderly women over 60 years of age whose fields of action were colleges for the elderly, sports centers, or business sites in Seoul and the neighboring districts. A total of 44 features in the upper body were used for the anthropometric measurement and analysis using anthropometry and photometry. The results of the study are as follows: 1. Somatotypes were classified into three types according to a cluster analysis using height and weight indices. Type 1 is the group with long and undersized upper body and straight body type since the face of the upper body is long relative to height and width, girth and depth are the smallest relative to weight, the breasts are somewhat fat, with a small extent of drooping and a straight back. Type 2 is the group that is considered fat relative to the body, has broad shoulders, drooping breasts with a wide space between them, and a back-bent upper body. Type 3 is the group that has a bent shape, the shortest upper body relative to height, and showing average obesity factors. 2. Indices of height and weight were used for factor analysis, cluster analysis, and discriminant analysis in order to classify upper body somatotype according to shape while excluding size factors of elderly women's upper body somatotype. The same method was used to compare and verify the result according to the absolute measurement and height index. Classification based on height and weight indices demonstrate that such somatotype classification minimizes the personal equation of body shape and it induces better classification based on shape as the results showed the highest cumulative sum of square(CUSUM) at 78.38% while six factors showed the smallest result and the hit rate for the classified three groups showed the highest result at 95.30%.

  • The total energy expenditure (TEE) consists of the basal energy expenditure (BEE), physical activity energy expenditure (PAEE) and the thermic effect of food. The PAEE accounts for a significant portion of the TEE and can be changed according to individual efforts, and the difference between individuals of PAEE is large. Even for the same physical activity, there is a difference in energy expenditure between adults and children. Therefore, a physical activity classification table for youth is needed to classify the physical activity recorded in the physical activity diary prepared to evaluate children's energy expenditure. It is also necessary to calculate the physical activity level required to set the estimated energy requirement in the Dietary Reference Intakes for children and adolescents in Korea. This paper reports a physical activity classification table for Korean youth using the 2017 Youth Compendium of Physical Activities in the United States. This physical activity classification table includes 110 specific activities classified into 14 major categories by four age groups (6-9, 10-12, 13-15, and 16-18 years old) and their metabolic equivalent values. Of these, 87 physical activities were selected from the 2017 Youth Compendium reported in the United States. Nine physical activities such as washing and going to the bathroom, which are daily activities of children and adolescents not included among them, were selected from the another list (2008) of physical activities in America. The remaining 15 physical activities were selected from the research results, which measured the energy expenditure of Korean children and adolescents. Activity categories were divided into 4 areas: daily activity (A), movement (B), school work (C), exercise and sports (D). This physical activity classification table will help standardize the interpretation and scoring process of physical activity of youth in related studies and community health surveys.

  • Recently, screen climbing contents such as sports climbing learning program and screen climbing games. Especially, there are many researches on screen climbing games. In this paper, we propose the skeleton correction method based on the body area of a climber to improve the posture recognition accuracy. The correction method consists of the modified skeletal frame normalization with abnormal skeleton joint filtering, the classification of body area into joint parts, and the final skeleton joint correction. The skeletal information obtained by the proposed method can be used to compare the climber's posture and the ideal climbing posture.

  • Many people in these days participate in running as leisure due to urbanization and socio-economic development. Running is a simple exercise but it can induce its own specific injury pattern because of its repetitive motion. Most runners' injury is caused by chronic overuse syndrome rather than acute trauma. And common accompanying injury in running are anterior knee pain syndrome, Iliotibial band syndrome, stress fracture, plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendinitis, posterior tibial tendon syndrome. Most common area of runners' injury is knee joint. Therefore the authors reviewed the recent literatures and described the classification, etiology, prevention, rehabilitation in this article.

  • Acromioclavicula. joint injuries occur as a result of force applied directly to the shoulder or indirectly through the humerus. Even though the main cause of injuries are direct trauma, indirect injury due to repetitive stress on the joint also could occur to the throwing athletes. The extent of injury to the ligaments responsible for acromioclavicular joint stability along with trapezius and deltoid muscle attachments determines the direction and degree of injury. Correct classification of injury based on clear understanding of anatomy and mechanism of injury can assist in tailoring a treatment to a throwing athletes.

  • Video summary is one of the tools which can provide the fast and effective browsing fur a lengthy video. Video summary consists of many key-frames that could be defined differently depending on the video genre it belongs to. Consequently, the video summary constructed by the uniform manner might lead into inadequate result. Therefore, identifying the video genre is the important first step in generating the meaningful video summary. We propose a new method that can classify the genre of the video data in MPEG compressed bit-stream domain. Since the proposed method operates directly on the com- pressed bit-stream without decoding the frame, it has merits such as simple calculation and short processing time. In the proposed method, only the visual information is utilized through the spatial-temporal analysis to classify the video genre. Experiments are done for 6 genres of video: Cartoon, Commercial, Music Video, News, Sports, and Talk Show. Experimental result shows more than 90% of accuracy in genre classification for the well-structured video data such as Talk Show and Sports.

  • The national standard physique research of Korea is being conducted every 5∼6 year term after its first research was started 1979, the fourth research was conducted in 1997. The result of the national physique research was reflected in manufactured goods design of allied industries such as clothing , shoes, furniture. In this thesis, we measured anthropometry value for every bodily figurative classification after dividing users according to gender, age, bodily figure using the result of the national standard physique research. We constructed 3D character through the process of analyzing interrelation of measured anthropometry and measuring representative category. For the process for organization, we measured anthropometry which can express sports action of golf, tennis and etc effectively. We made it by presenting measurement which is able to form each type of 3D character after the category was decided. Quantitative and objective valuation for posture and action became possible by developing visible information offer and posture action analysis protocol in theoretical approach for analysis for analysis of posture and action in sports.
