Optimum Design of High Speed Transmission SMF Link Using DCF (분산보상 광섬유를 이용한 초고속 단일모드 광섬유 전송링크의 최적 설계 연구)

  • This paper proposes an optical transmission link design method based on an optimum compensation scheme using dispersion compensating fiber (DCF), so that high-speed long-distance optical transmission would be possible over the conventional standard single mode fiber (SMF) link. The proposed design method provides the maximized transmission distances according to the signal speeds, where the amplifier spacing and repeater spacing are optimized wit respect to self-phase modulation(SPM) due to fiber nonlinearity and amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) noises caused by optical amplifies. It is also shown that there exists an optimum input signal power range balancing the effects of ASE noise and SPM for the given amplifier spacing and repeater spacing.

Efficient excitation and amplification of the surface plasmons

  • One dimensional (1D) grating has been fabricated (using focused ion beam) on 50 nm gold (Au) film deposited on higher refractive index Gallium phosphate (GaP) substrate. The sub-wavelength periodic metal nano structuring enable to couple photon to couple with the surface plasmons (SPs) excited by them. These grating devices provide the efficient control on the SPs which propagate on the interface of noble metal and dielectric whose frequency is dependent on the bulk electron plasma frequency of the metal. For a fixed periodicity (${\Lambda}=700 nm$) and slit width (w = 100 nm) in the grating device, the efficiency of SPP excitation is about 40% compared to the transmission in the near-field. Efficient coupling of SPs with photon in dielectric provide field localisation on sub-wavelength scale which is needed in Heat Assisted Magnetic recording (HAMR) systems. The GaP is also used to emulate Vertical Cavity Surface emitting laser (VCSEL) in order to provide cheaper alternative of light source being used in HAMR technology. In order to understand the underlying physics, far-and near-field results has been compared with the modelling results which are obtained using COMSOL RF module. Apart from this, grating devices of smaller periodicity (${\Lambda}=280nm$) and slit width (w = 22 nm) has been fabricated on GaP substrate which is photoluminescence material to observe amplified spontaneous emission of the SPs at wavelength of 805 nm when the grating device was excited with 532 nm laser light. This observation is unique and can have direct application in light emitting diodes (LEDs).

Coherent Radiation in A Very Thin Ferromagnetic Film

  • Relaxation of magnon in a very thin ferromagnetic film through spontaneous emission of photon shows an enhancement of the decay rate due to the phase coherence between the magnon and the planar component of wave vector of photon. The coupling between magnon and photon under a strong external magnetic field is considered only at the lowest order one-magnon one-photon process, which we believe the most dominant channel for the radiation from the system. Theoretical understanding related to the geometric confinement is pursued; the phase coherence due to the crystal symmetry in the film plane gives rise to superradiative emission on one hand, but the symmetry breaking along the direction perpendicular to the film renders the possibility of emission itself, providing the increased degrees of freedom for the photon.

  • Multiple-harmonic electron cyclotron emissions, often known in the literature as the (n + 1∕2)fce emissions, are a common occurrence in the magnetosphere. These emissions are often interpreted in terms of the Bernstein mode instability driven by the electron loss cone velocity distribution function. Alternatively, they can be interpreted as quasi-thermal emission of electrostatic fluctuations in magnetized plasmas. The present paper carries out a one-dimensional relativistic electromagnetic particle-in-cell simulation and also employs a reduced quasi-linear kinetic theoretical analysis in order to compare against the simulation. It is found that the Bernstein mode instability is indeed excited by the loss cone distribution of electrons, but the saturation level of the electrostatic mode is quite low, and that the effects of instability on the electrons is rather minimal. This supports the interpretation of multiple-harmonic emission in the context of the spontaneous emission and reabsorption in quasi-thermal magnetized plasma in the magnetosphere.

  • 본 연구에서는 굴절율이 서로 다른 경계면 근처에 원자가 놓여있는 경우, 조건 변화에 따른 원자의 자발방출의 변화에 대해 다루었다. 굴절율이 작은 쪽의 경계에 있는 원자간 여기상태에 있는 경우, 양쪽 매질로 자발방출이 가능하다. 굴절율이 작은 방향으로의 자발방출은 자유공간에서의 자발방출과 별 다를바가 없다. 그러나 굴절율이 큰 방향으로의 자발방출의 경우에는 원자가 에바네슨트 파와 상호작용하여 방출하는 경우가 나타나므로 전자와는 다르게 접근해야 한다. (중략)

  • Experimental demonstration of bipolar spectral encoding code-division multiple-access with modified pseudorandom noise codes is presented. Bipolar spectral encoding is achieved with an erbium-doped fiber amplifier amplified spontaneous emission source and arrayed waveguide gratings. The bit-error rate performance of 1.25 Gbps signal transmission over 80 km single mode fiber is measured in a multiple-user environment.

  • We express fundamental second-order and third- order harmonic distortions and intermodulation distortions in terms of the laser parameters. Compared to the Darcie `s result only limited to the high frequency (f >1GHz), these expression are quite valid in the entire modulation frequency region. It is found that the fundamental nonlinear distortions are strongly effected by the spontaneous emission to lasing mode as well as the gain compresion damping in the low frequency region.

  • The purpose of this work is to investigate the dynamics of an atomic wave packet whose center-of-mass motion is quantized in a resonant standing wave cavity field. The mechanical aspect of the matter-field interaction has been extensively studied In the theme of atomic beam deflection, diffraction, or reflection by a standing-wave field. The effect caused in the behavior of spontaneous emission by the atomic center-of-mass motion, classical and quantized, in a standing wave cavity mode has been studied, and recently the one-atom laser with quantized atomic center-of-mass motion has been investigated.   • The overall design of the optical isolator system is prepared for the 1 TW Nd pulse laser. Two pockels cell optical switches are employed to suppress the amplified spontaneous emission and the backward reflection. The role of two Farady rotators is to protect the laser system from the light amplified after back reflection. One saturable absorber dye and one liquid crystal polarizer/isolator will also serve as optical isolator.
