A series of Brazilian tests under diameter compression for disc specimens was carried out to investigate the strength and failure behavior by using acoustic emission (AE) and photography monitoring technique. On the basis of experimental results, load-displacement curves, AE counts, real-time crack evolution process, failure modes and strength property of granite specimens containing two pre-existing holes were analyzed in detail. Two typical types of load-displacement curves are identified, i.e., sudden instability (type I) and progressive failure (type II). In accordance with the two types of load-displacement curves, the AE events also have different responses. The present experiments on disc specimens containing two pre-existing holes under Brazilian test reveal four distinct failure modes, including diametrical splitting failure mode (mode I), one crack coalescence failure mode (mode II), two crack coalescences failure mode (mode III) and no crack coalescence failure mode (mode IV). Compared with intact granite specimen, the disc specimen containing two holes fails with lower strength, which is closely related to the bridge angle. The failure strength of pre-holed specimen first decreases and then increases with the bridge angle. Finally, a preliminary interpretation was proposed to explain the strength evolution law of granite specimen containing two holes based on the microscopic observation of fracture plane.

The objective of this study is to develop a high ductile fiber reinforced mortar, ECC(Engineered Cementitious Composite) with using raw material commercially available in Korea. A single fiber pullout test and a wedge splitting test were employed to measure the bond properties in a matrix and the fracture toughness of mortar matrix respectively, which are used for designing mix proportion suitable for achieving strain-hardening behavior at a composite level. Test results showed that the properties tended to increase with decreasing water-cement ratio. A high ductile fiber reinforced mortar has been developed by employing micromechanics-based design procedure. Micromechanical analysis was initially peformed to properly select water-cement ratio, and then basic mixture proportion range was determined based on workability considerations, including desirable fiber dispersion without segregation. Subsequent direct tensile tests were performed on the composites with W/C's of 47.5% and 60% at 28 days that the fiber reinforced mortar exhibited high ductile uniaxial tension property, represented by a maximum strain capacity of 2.2%, which is around 100 times the strain capacity of normal concrete. Also, compressive tests were performed to examine high ductile fiber reinforced mortar under the compression. The test results showed that the measured value of compressive strength was from 26MPa to 34 MPa which comes under the strength of normal concrete at 28 days.
This paper presents a unified modeling technique for tension stiffening effect in structural concrete members. The model is mathematically derived from the bond stress-slip relationships which account for splitting crack. The relationships in CEB-FIP Model Code 1990 and Eurocode 2 are employed together with the assumptions of a linear slip distribution along the interface and the uniform condition of concrete tensile contribution for the mid section of cracked member at the stabilized cracking stage. With these assumptions, a model of tension stiffening effect is proposed by accounting for the force equilibrium and strain compatibility condition associated to the steel strain and concrete contribution by bond stress. The model is applied to the test results available in literatures, and the predicted values are shown to be in good agreement with the experimentally measured behavior.
Recently, as the utilization of underground space increases, the demand for underground excavation increases. In this study, the concrete mixture with a new material was used to develop and evaluate the stability of the CS-H wall that can greatly minimize the problems of existing wall and minimize the impact of ground depression and surrounding ground that may occur in the future for excavation of over 30 m deep in urban areas. The fiber reinforcement formulation of steel fibers, synthetic fibers, and glass fibers, along with fine aggregate parts of PS-ball and ferronickel, were mixed. The Mixture ratios were determined by conducting slump test compresive strength test, modulus of elastic test, flexural strength test, splitting tensile strength test and conductivity test. As a result of the test, the steel fiber mixture showed very good results compared to other reference values in all items, and it is considered to be the most suitable for the CS-H wall to be developed.
In this study, the properties of super flowing concrete containing fly ash were experimentally
investigated and compared with those of ordinary concrete. Tests were carried out on five types
of super flowing concrete mixes containing fly ash and three types of ordinary concrete mixes
without fly ash. Flow test, 0-funnel test, box test, L type test and slump test were carried out
to obtain the properties for flowability and workability of fresh concrete. The mechanical properties
of hardened concrete were also investigated in terms of compressive strength, splitting tensile
strength, modulus of elasticity, creep and drying shrinkage.
In fresh concrete, it was found that super flowing concrete had excellent workability and flowability
compared with ordinary concrete, and had self-compactable performance. Super flowing
concrete *also had good mechanical properties at both early and late ages with compressive strength reaching as high as 40 MPa at 28 days. The creep deformation of super flowing concrete
investigated was relatively lower than that of ordinary concrete, but drying shrinkage was much
higher.
It is known from the literature that there are relatively few studies on the engineering properties of ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC) in early age. In fact, in order to ensure the safety of UHPC during construction and sufficient durability and long-term performance, it is necessary to explore the early behavior of UHPC. The test parameters (test control factors) investigated included the percentage of cement replaced by silica fume (SF), the percentage of cement replaced by ultra-fine silica powder (SFP), the amount of steel fiber (volume percent), and the amount of polypropylene fiber (volume percentage). The engineering properties of UHPC in the fresh mixing stage and at the age of 7 days were investigated. These properties include freshly mixed properties (slump, slump flow, and unit weight) and hardened mechanical properties (compressive strength, elastic modulus, flexural strength, and splitting tensile strength). Moreover, the effects of the experimental factors on the performance of the tested UHPC were evaluated by range analysis and variance analysis. The experiment results showed that the compressive strength of the C8 mix at the age of 7 days was highest of 111.5 MPa, and the compressive strength of the C1 mix at the age of 28 days was the highest of 128.1 MPa. In addition, the 28-day compressive strength in each experimental group increased by 13%-34% compared to the 7-day compressive strength. In terms of hardened mechanical properties, the performance of each experimental group was superior to that of the control group (without fiber and without additional binder materials), with considerable improvement, and the experimental group did not produce explosive or brittle damage after the test. Further, the flexural test process found that all test specimens exhibited deflection-hardening behavior, resulting in continued to increase carrying capacity after the first crack.

In this study, an innovative and smart glass fiber-reinforced polymer (GFRP) hybrid bar was developed for stronger durability of concrete structures. As comparing with the conventional GFRP bar, the smart GFRP Hybrid bar can promise to enhance the modulus of elasticity so that it makes the cracking reduced than the case when the conventional GFRP bar is used. Besides, the GFRP Hybrid bar can effectively resist the corrosion of conventional steel bar by the GFRP outer surface on the steel bar. In order to verify the bond performance of the GFRP hybrid bar for structural reinforcement, uniaxial pull-out test was conducted. The variables were the bar diameter and the number of strands and pitch of the fiber ribs. Tensile tests showed a excellent increase in the modulus of elasticity, 152.1 GPa, as compared to that of the pure GFRP bar (50 GPa). The stress-strain curve was bi-linear, so that the ductile performance could be obtained. For the bond test, the entire GFRP hybrid bar test specimens failed in concrete splitting due to higher shear strength resulting in concrete crushing as a function of bar deformation. Investigation revealed that an increase in the number of strands of fiber ribs enhanced the bond strength, and the pitch guaranteed the bond strength of 19.1 mm diameter hybrid bar with 15.9 mm diameter of core section of deformed steel the ACI 440 1R-15 equation is regarded as more suitable for predicting the bond strength of GFRP hybrid bars, whereas the CSA S806-12 prediction is considered too conservative and is largely influenced by the bar diameter. For further study, various geometrical and material properties such as concrete cover, cross-sectional ratio, and surface treatment should be considered.

The optimum fiber and asphalt binder contents were decided on the base of the Mashall mix design method. To compare the mechanical characteristics between the conventional(dense-graded 20) and the fiber-reinforced mixtures, indirect tension tests were conducted under three temperatures(5, 20, 60$^{\circ}C$). In particular, the wheel tracking tests were performed to evaluate the rutting resistances of the mixtures. Test results showed that the indirect tensile strength of fiber-reinforced asphalt concrete was higher than that of conventional one. The toughness of fiber-reinforced mixture was 1.27 to 1.97 times higher than that of conventional one, depending upon the temperature. In addition, the results of wheel tracking tests and the retained indirect splitting tension tests conducted at $60^{\circ}C$ revealed that the resistance to permanent deformation of fiber-reinforced mixture was stronger than that of the conventional one.

In order to research the influence of different recycled aggregate contents on the mechanical properties of pervious concrete, the experimental study and numerical simulation analysis of the mechanical properties of pervious concrete with five kinds of recycled aggregates contents (0%, 25%, 50%, 75% and 100%) are carried out in this paper. The experimental test were first performed on concrete specimens of different sizes in order to determine the influence of recycled aggregate on the compressive strength and splitting tensile strength, direct tension strength and bending strength. Then, the development of the internal cracks of pervious concrete under different working conditions is studied more intuitively by $PFC^{3D}$. The experimental results show that the concrete compressive strength, tensile strength and bending strength decrease with the increase of the recycled aggregate contents. This trend of reduction is not only related to the brittleness of recycled aggregate concrete, but also to the weak viscosity of recycled aggregate and cement paste. It is found that the fracture surface of pervious concrete with recycled aggregate is smoother than that of natural aggregate pervious concrete by $PFC^{3D}$, which means that the bridging effect is weakened in the stress transfer between the left and right sides of the crack. Through the analysis of the development of the internal cracks, the recycled aggregate concrete generated more cracks than the natural aggregate concrete, which means that the recycled aggregate concrete is easier to form a coalescence fracture surface and eventually break.
The mechanical properties of steel fiber reinforced high strength concrete (SFRHSC) made with binary and ternary blends of metakaolin (MK) and ground pumice (GP) are investigated in this study. The investigated properties are ultrasonic pulse velocity ($U_{pv}$), compressive strength ($f_c$), flexural strength ($f_f$) and splitting tensile strength ($f_{st}$) of SFRHSC. A total of 16 steel fiber reinforced concrete mixtures were produced by a total binder content of $500kg/m^3$ for determining the effects of MK and GP on the mechanical properties. The design $f_c$ was acquired from 70 to 100 MPa by using a low water-binder ratio of 0.2. The test results exhibit that high strength concrete can be obtained by replacing the cement with MK and GP. Besides, correlations between these results are executed for comprehending the relationship between mechanical properties of SFRHSC and the strong correlations are observed between these properties. Moreover, two models in the gene expression programming (GEP) for predicting the $f_c$ of SFRHSC made with binary and ternary blends of MK and GP have been developed. The results obtained from these models are compared with the experimental results. These comparisons proved that the results of equations obtained from these models seem to agree with the experimental results.
