In this paper, the design and implementation of the Ka-band(20/30 GHz) waveguide diplexer with an E-plane T-junction are described. The waveguide diplexer consists of a transmit filter and a receive filter combined to the antenna port via an E-plane T-junction. The reason why the E-plane T-junction structure was selected is to reduce PIM(Passive Intermodulation) level as the split-plane is located in the low electrical current zone. The optimization was performed using the equivalent circuit so that the computation time might reduce. The structure of the diplexer was designed to handle high power and the multipaction analysis was performed. The multipaction margin was greater than 12 dB and satisfied with ESA/ESTEC recommendation. The manufactured diplexer shows minimum return loss of 22 dB, maximum insertion loss of 0.20 dB and maximum isolation of -40 dB for both transmitted receive bands. Those mean the analysis results of the waveguide diplexer were well agreed with the electrical performance test.
Purpose: Orthognathic surgery is required in patients with severe skeletal disharmony and facial asymmetry, which results in functional and esthetic improvement. Recently, bimaxillary surgery has become generalized. Establishment of the occlusal plane among several other factors included in the surgery plan is a major consideration for the diagnosis and treatment plan and it is also an important factor for postoperative stability. Methods: In this study, we assessed postoperative stability of occlusal plane, B-point, and pogonion point on 20 patients who underwent two-jaw surgery in the Chosun Dental Hospital from 2000 to 2007. Preoperative and postoperative states and at least a one year postoperative follow-up were compared. Results: The postsurgical relapse volume of the occlusal plane to the SN plane and the FH plane was $-0.26{\pm}2.8^{\circ}$ and $-0.44{\pm}3.29^{\circ}$, respectively and after two-jaw surgery, the stability of occlusal plane was maintained. The horizontal relapse degree was $0.85{\pm}0.46$ mm and $0.76{\pm}0.48$ mm, respectively, and the vertical relapse degree was $1.16{\pm}0.36$ mm and $1.13{\pm}0.71$ mm of the B point and the Pogonion point at the time after minimal 1 year. Conclusion: The vertical relapse amount was shown to be slightly larger than the horizontal relapse amount.

Background Numerous condylar repositioning methods have been reported. However, most of them are 2-dimensional or are complex procedures that require a longer operation time and a highly trained surgeon. This study aims to introduce a new technique using a condylar repositioning plate and a centric relation splint to achieve a centric relationship. Methods We evaluated 387 patients who had undergone surgery for skeletal jaw deformities. During the operation, a centric relation splint, intermediate splint, final centric occlusion splint, and condylar repositioning plate along with an L-type mini-plate for LeFort I osteotomy or a bicortical screw for bilateral sagittal split ramus osteotomy were utilized for rigid fixation. The evaluation included: a physical examination to detect preoperative and postoperative temporomandibular joint dysfunction, 3-dimensional computed tomography and oblique transcranial temporomandibular joint radiography to measure 3-dimensional condylar head movement, and posteroanterior and lateral cephalometric radiography to measure the preoperative and postoperative movement of the bony segment and relapse rate. Results A 0.3% relapse rate was observed in the coronal plane, and a 2.8% relapse rate in the sagittal plane, which is indistinguishable from the dental relapse rate in orthodontic treatment. The condylar repositioning plate could not fully prevent movement of the condylar head, but the relapse rate was minimal, implying that the movement of the condylar head was within tolerable limits. Conclusions Our condylar repositioning method using a centric relation splint and miniplate in orthognathic surgery was found to be simple and effective for patients suffering from skeletal jaw deformities.
Background: Botulinum toxin-A (BTX-A) injection into muscle reduces muscular power and may prevent post-operative complication after orthognathic surgery. The purpose of this study was (1) to evaluate BTX-A injection into the masseter muscle on the prevention of plate fracture and (2) to compare post-operative relapse between the BTX-A injection group and the no injection group. Methods: Sixteen patients were included in this study. Eight patients received BTX-A injection bilaterally, and eight patients served as control. All patients received bilateral sagittal split ramus osteotomy for the mandibular setback and additional surgery, such as LeFort I osteotomy or genioplasty. Post-operative plate fracture was recorded. SNB angle, mandibular plane angle, and gonial angle were used for post-operative relapse. Results: Total number of fractured plates in patients was 2 out of 16 plates in the BTX-A injection group and that was 8 out of 16 plates in the no treatment group (P = 0.031). However, there were no significant differences in post-operative changes in SNB angle, mandibular plane angle, and gonial angle between groups (P > 0.05). Conclusions: BTX-A injection into the masseter muscle could reduce the incidence of plate fracture.

Purpose: This study was performed to evaluate three-dimensional positional change of the condyle using 3D CT after bilateral sagittal split ramus osteotomy (BSSRO) in skeletal class III patients. Patients and methods: Nine patients who underwent BSSRO for mandibular set-back in skeletal class III malocclusion without facial asymmetry were examined. Miniplates were used for the fixation after BSSRO. 3-D CT was taken before, immediately after, and 6 months after undergoing BSSRO. After creating 3D-CT images using V-works $4.0^{TM}$ program, axial plane, coronal plane, & sagittal plane were configured. Three dimensional positional change, from each plane to the condyle, of the nine patients was measured before, immediately after, and 6 months after undergoing BSSRO. Results: 1. The mean value of mandibular set-back for nine mandibular prognathism patients was 7.36 mm (${\pm}\;2.42\;mm$). 2. In the axial view, condyle is rotated inward immediately after BSSRO (p < 0.05), comparing with preoperative but outward 6 months after BSSRO comparing with postoperative (p < 0.05). 3. In the axial view, condyle is moved laterally immediately after BSSRO (p < 0.05), comparing with preoperative but regressed 6 months after BSSRO comparing with preoperative (p > 0.05). 4. In the frontal & coronal view, there is changed immediately after and 6 months after BSSRO, comparing with preoperative but no statistical difference. Conclusion: These results indicate that three-dimensional positional change of the condyle in skeletal class III patients is observed lateral displacement & inward rotation immediate after BSSRO, but the condyle in 6 months after BSSRO tends to regress to preoperative position.

Background: This study was performed to evaluate three-dimensional positional change of the condyle using three-dimensional computed tomography (3D-CT) following unilateral sagittal split ramus osteotomy (USSRO) in patients with mandibular prognathism. Methods: This study examined two patients exhibiting skeletal class III malocclusion with facial asymmetry who underwent USSRO for a mandibular setback. 3D-CT was performed before surgery, immediately after surgery, and 6 months postoperatively. After creating 3D-CT images by using the In-vivo $5^{TM}$ program, the axial plane, coronal plane, and sagittal plane were configured. Three-dimensional positional changes from each plane to the condyle, axial condylar head axis angle (AHA), axial condylar head position (AHP), frontal condylar head axis angle (FHA), frontal condylar head position (FHP), sagittal condylar head axis angle (SHA), and sagittal condylar head position (SHP) of the two patients were measured before surgery, immediately after surgery, and 6 months postoperatively. Results: In the first patient, medial rotation of the operated condyle in AHA and anterior rotation in SHA were observed. There were no significant changes after surgery in AHP, FHP, and SHP after surgery. In the second patient, medial rotation of the operated condyle in AHA and lateral rotation of the operated condyle in FHA were observed. There were no significant changes in AHP, FHP, and SHP postoperatively. This indicates that in USSRO, postoperative movement of the condylar head is insignificant; however, medial rotation of the condylar head is possible. Although three-dimensional changes were observed, these were not clinically significant. Conclusions: The results of this study suggest that although three-dimensional changes in condylar head position are observed in patients post SSRO, there are no significant changes that would clinically affect the patient.

An experiment has been carried out to investigate the aerodynamic effect of surface roughness on the characteristics of the turbulent separation and reattaching flow downstream of a backward-facing step. The distributions of boundary layer parameters, forward-flow fraction and turbulent stresses in the region near the reattachment point are measured with a split film sensor. It is demonstrated that the streamwise distributions of the forward-flow fraction in the recirculation and reattachment regions are similar, independent of the roughness. The reattachment length is found to be only weakly affected by the roughness. It is also shown that the velocity profile on the rough surface approaches to that of the equilibrium turbulent boundary layer faster than that on the smooth surface in the redeveloping region after reattachment.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the stability of counterclockwise rotation of mandible by sagittal split ramus osteotomy to correct the skeletal Class III malocclusion with anterior open bite. Twenty five skeletal Class III open bite patients(mean age 20.6 years) who were treated by the sagittal split ramus osteotonues with rigid fixation were examined in this study. Cephalometric radiographs were taken for each Patients Preoperative(T1), ewly Postoperative(T2), and late postoperative Period(T3). Mean postoperative period was 8.0 months. Cephalometric analysis was done and data from T1, T2, and T3 were analyzed statistically by Paired t-test and Pearson correlation analysis. The following results were obtained. 1. Mandibular plane angle decreased $2.9^{\circ}$ and mandibular occlusal plane angle related to SN Plane decreased $2.7^{\circ}$ after orthognathic surgery(T2). At 6 months after orthognathic surgery(T3), mandibular plane angle increased $1.0^{\circ}$, but mandibular occlusal plane angle did not changed. 2. The amount of horizontal relapse long time after orthognathic surgery(T3) was 1.6 mm at B point and it was $22\%$ of the total posterior movements. There was no vertical relapse in the anterior facial height. 3. The related factor with horizontal relapse at late postoperative period was mandibular plane angle(p<0.01). The related factors with decreasing posterior facial height were amount of mandibular setback(p<0.01), increasing of mandibular ramus height(p<0.01), and decrease of the mandibular plane angle during operation(p<0.01). 4. There was no relationship between the amount of changes in mandibular occlusal plan angle during operation and the amount of relapse after surgery.

Objectives: Buccal fracture of the mandibular proximal bone segment during bilateral sagittal split ramus osteotomy (SSRO) reduces the postoperative stability. The primary aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of this type of fracture on bone healing and postoperative stability after mandibular setback surgery. Materials and Methods: Ten patients who experienced buccal fracture during SSRO for mandibular setback movement were evaluated. We measured the amount of bone generation on a computed tomography scan, using an image analysis program, and compared the buccal fracture side to the opposite side in each patient. To investigate the effect on postoperative stability, we measured the postoperative relapse in lateral cephalograms, immediately following and six months after the surgery. The control group consisted of ten randomly-selected patients having a similar amount of set-back without buccal fracture. Results: Less bone generation was observed on the buccal fracture side compared with the opposite side (P<0.05). However, there was no significant difference in anterior-posterior postoperative relapse between the group with buccal fracture and the control group. The increased mandibular plane angle and anterior facial height after the surgery in the group with buccal fracture manifested as a postoperative clockwise rotation of the mandible. Conclusion: Bone generation was delayed compared to the opposite side. However, postoperative stability in the anterior-posterior direction could be maintained with rigid fixation.

In this paper, a broadband antenna of the CPW structure with a band-notched characteristic is presented. To obtain this characteristic, the complementary split ring resonator(CSRR) is inserted in the ground plane. In addition, the IEEE 802.11a WLAN band(5.15~5.825 GHz) appears in the band-notched characteristic. The proposed antenna dimension is $36{\times}60{\times}1.6\;mm^3$, and it is designed on the FR-4 substrate having a relative dielectric constant of 4.4. The designed antenna shows that the resonant frequency is 2.03~10.78 GHz below the return loss of -10 dB and a VSWR less than 2 was satisfied. As a result, the proposed CSRR has a band-notched characteristic in the range of 4.917~6.017 GHz which the center frequency is about 5.4 GHz band.
