  • Polycarbosilane(PCS) is an important precursor for melt-spinning the silicon carbide(SiC) fibers and manufacturing ceramics. The PCS is a metal-organic polymer precursor capable of producing continuous SiC fibers having excellent performance such as high-temperature resistance and oxidation resistance. The SiC fibers are manufactured through melt-spinning, stabilization, and heat treatment processes using the PCS manufactured by synthesis, purification, and control of the molecular structure. In this paper, we analyzed the effect of purification of unreacted substances and low molecular weight through solvent treatment of PCS and the effect of heat treatment at various temperatures change the polymerization and network rearrangement of PCS. Especially, we investigated the complex viscosity and structural arrangement of PCS precursors according to solvent treatment and heat treatment through the rheological properties.

  • Due to the increasing competition, automotive manufacturers have to manufacture highly safe and light vehicles. The parts which make up the body of the vehicle and absorb the energy in case of a crash, are usually manufactured with sheet metal forming methods such as deep drawing, bending, trimming and spinning. The part may get thinner, thicker, folded, teared, wrinkled and spring back based on the manufacturing conditions during manufacturing and the type of application methods. Transferring these effects which originate from the forming process to the crash simulations that are performed for vehicle safety simulations, makes accurate and reliable results possible. As a part of this study, firstly, the one-step and incremental sheet metal forming analysis (deep drawing + trimming + spring back) of vehicle front bumper beam and crash boxes were conducted. Then, crash performances for cases with and without the effects of sheet metal forming were assessed in the crash analysis of vehicle front bumper beam and crash box. It was detected that the parts absorbed 12.89% more energy in total in cases where the effect of the forming process was included. It was revealed that forming history has a significant effect on the crash performance of the vehicle parts.

  • In this paper 3-point weighing method is adopted to measure the unbalance moment of small-sized precision spinning elements using electronic scales with 0.1 mgf resolution. Firstly methods to eliminate the fixture error and to reduce the effects of frictional force that is known as side effect, are proposed. A measuring system is developed and various experiments are performed to verify the proposed approach. The measured and calculated values are analysed in statistical methods, and this provides the errors of the measuring system. The results show that the proposed theory and test procedures gives reliable unbalance moments and gravitational centers.

  • It has been reported in the technical literature that orotic acid can be used in order to induce improved crystallization of biodegradable and biocompatible polymers like poly(L-lactic acid), polyhydroxybutyrate and poly(hydroxybutyrate-co-hydroxyhexaonat). The expected advantage of the changed crystalline structure is a reinforcing effect of the polymers. A lot of papers reported about the application of inorganic and organic agents for acceleration of heterogeneous nucleation. This study reports on an attempt to use orotic acid as appropriate non-toxic nucleating agent for improving mechanical properties of isotactic polypropylene. Special attention is given to demonstrate the effect of nucleation in a typical melt spinning process in order to improve the mechanical properties. The effects were demonstrated using rheology, thermal analysis and tensile testing.

  • The present study, aims to investigate the effect of minor Zr and Nb alloying on soft magnetic and electrical properties of Fe86(ZrxNb1-x)7B6Cu1 (x = 1, 0.75, 0.5, 0.25) alloys. The investigated alloys were prepared through the melt spinning process. Within the examined compositional range (Nb up to 5.25at%, respectively), the soft magnetic properties and electrical resistivity of the alloys continuously increase with increasing Nb content. However increasing the Nb content further decreases such properties. We could confirm the influence of ratio of Zr and Nb on grain growth and crystallization fraction during crystallization by using the soft magnetic properties and electrical properties.

  • This survey was performed to elucidate whether pesticide can cause the non-spinning syndrome of silkworm, Bombyx mori in Yecheon and Sangju 2002. We primarily focused to Insect Growth Regulator Pesticides(IGR) used in that areas. In the result of the survey to the retail pesticide store at Yecheon and Sangju, seven pesticides of the total 12 IGR pesticides sold were used during spring sericuitural season. 7 pesticides might effect on silkworm in consideration of possibility of exposure according to the characteristics of used amount, spray drift, volatility and treatment time. Five chitin synthesis inhibitor involving diflubenzuron of 7 IGR pesticides were known as very toxic to silkwork after exposure by skin and feeding but no non-spinning syndrome was observed from several papers. Methoxyfenozide and tebufenozide also has used at sericultural season, but are ecdysone agonist. One of the most feasible suspect of non IGR pesticide, was molinate in consideration of its volatility property and wide spread use in the sericultural area. But it's symptom after exposure of molinate was not the same as the non-spinning syndrome broke out at the sericultural farm in Yecheon and Sangju.

  • We have carried out the study of magnetocaloric effect for as-quenched and annealed $Fe_{91-x}Y_xZr_9$ alloys. Samples were prepared by arc melting the high-purity elemental constituents under argon gas atmosphere and by single roller melt spinning. These alloys were annealed one hour at 773 K in vacuum chamber. The magnetization behaviours of the samples were measured by vibrating sample magnetometer. The Curie temperature increases with increasing Y concentration (x=0 to 8). Temperature dependence of the entropy variation ${\Delta}S_M$ was found to appear in the vicinity of the Curie temperature. The results show that annealed $Fe_{86}Y_5Zr_9$ and $Fe_{83}Y_8Zr_9$ alloys a bigger magnetocaloric effect than that those in as-quenched alloys. The value is 1.23 J/kg K for annealed $Fe_{86}Y_5Zr_9$ alloy and 0.89 J/kg K for as-quenched alloy, respectively. In addition, the values of ${\Delta}S_M$ for $Fe_{83}Y_8Zr_9$ alloy is 0.72 J/Kg K for as-quenched and 1.09 J/Kg K for annealed alloy, respectively.

  • In this study, basic physical properties were measured for ASCO EQ85 cationic surfactant of triethanolamine-ester quaternary ammonium salt and effect of pH on softening performance on fabrics was investigated using zeta potential measurement and adsorption experiment by quartz crystal microbalance. The CMC of the surfactant was near $3{\times}10^{-3}mol/L$ and the surface tension at CMC was about 40 mN/m. The interfacial tension measurement between 1 wt% aqueous solution and n-dodecane measured by spinning drop tensiometer showed that interfacial tension slightly increased with an increase in pH but the equilibration time was not affected by pH. The surfactant adsorption was found to increase with an increase in surfactant concentration and was also affected by pH of surfactant solution. The friction factor for fabrics treated with ASCO EQ85 surfactant was shown to increase with pH and better softening effect was found under acidic conditions. Half-life for foams generated with ASCO EQ85 surfactant solution increased with pH, which indicated an increase in foam stability with pH.

  • The mixed alkali silicate glasses doped 0.1 mol% $Fe_2O_3$ are fabricated for studying the effect of transition metal oxides, which is related to the $Li^-$ ion movement in Magic-Angle-Spinning NMR. We have investigated the spin-lattice relaxation times in the room temperature and measured the $^7Li$ MAS-NMR spectrum with temperature. When the $Fe_2O_3$ oxides are added in alkali silicate glasses, the width of spectrum is changed a little but the line shape is hardly varied. For this reason, we can think that the mixed alkali effects are shown sufficiently in the spin-spin relaxation processes. However, it is not mixed alkali effects in this case. The activation energy of $Li^-$ ions are diminished in mixed alkali glasses. From the analysis of $Li^-$ diffusion environment, spin-lattice relaxation time and the nuclear magnetization, it is confirmed that the alkali mixed effects are not shown in $^7Li$ spin-lattice relaxation processes.

  • Recent developments in nanocrystalline and nanocomposite rare earth-transition metal magnets are reviewed and emphasis is placed on research work at IFW Dresden. Principal synthesis methods include high energy ball milling, melt spinning, mold casting and hydrogen assisted methods such as reactive milling and hydrogenation-disproportionation-desorption-recombination. These techniques are applied to NdFeB-, PrFeB- and SmCo-type systems with the aim to produce high remanence magnets with high coercivity. Concepts of maximizing the energy density in nanostructured magnets by either inducing a texture via anisotropic HDDR or hot deformation or enhancing the remanence via magnetic exchange coupling are evaluated. With respect to high temperature applications melt spun $Sm(Co_{0.74}Fe_{0.1}Cu_{0.12}Zr_{0.04})_{7.5}$ ribbons were prepared, which showed coercivities of up to 0.53 T at 50$0^{\circ}C$. Partially amorphous $Nd_{60}Fe_xCo_{30-x}Al_{10}(0{\leq}x{\leq}30)$ alloys were prepared by copper mold casting. The effect of transition metal content on the glass-forming ability and the magnetic properties was investigated. The $Nd_{60}Co_{30}Al_{10}$ alloy exhibits an amorphous structure shown by the corresponding diffraction pattern. A small substitution of Co by 2.5 at.% Fe results In the formation of Fe-rich crystallites embedded in the Nd-rich amorphous matrix. The Fe-rich crystallites show hard magnetic behaviour at room temperature with a coercivity value of about 0.4 T, relatively low saturation magnetization and a Curie temperature of 500 K.
