Opening a bandgap by forming graphene nanoribbons (GNRs) and tailoring their properties via doping is a promising direction to achieve graphene-based advanced electronic devices. Applying a first-principles computational approach combining density functional theory (DFT) and DFT-based non-equilibrium Green's function (NEGF) calculation, we herein study the structural, electronic, and charge transport properties of boron-nitrogen binary edge doped GNRs and show that it can achieve novel doping effects that are absent for the single B or N doping. For the armchair GNRs, we find that the B-N edge co-doping almost perfectly recovers the conductance of pristine GNRs. For the zigzag GNRs, it is found to support spatially and energetically spin-polarized currents in the absence of magnetic electrodes or external gate fields: The spin-up (spin-down) currents along the B-N undoped edge and in the valence (conduction) band edge region. This may lead to a novel scheme of graphene band engineering and benefit the design of graphene-based spintronic devices.

Spin finish(SF) for nylon filament was prepared. The influence on the properties of filament obtained by treating the prepared spin finish in this study(SF-2) and foreign-made spin finish(Spinnar N-100) was compared. SF-2 prepared by blending of spindle oil 70g, paraffin wax 10g, glyceryl mono-oleate 5g, POE(6) nonylphenyl ether 4g, POE(10) nonylphenyl ether 4g, POE(10) octylphenyl ether 2g, POE(14) mono-oleate 4g and water 1g was excellent in its characteristics. Some of the properties of Nylon filament treated with SF-2 were better than those treated with Spinnar N-100. Also, optimal physical conditions of nylon filament according to the number of revolution of oil roller were obtained at conditions of 5rpm of number of revolution oil roller, 1.25% of SF-2 oil pick up, and denier 69D.
The Non-Principal Axis (NPA) rotators can be clues to spin evolutionary processes of asteroids because their excited spin states evolve due to either internal or external forces. The NPA rotation of (5247) Krylov was confirmed by Lee et al. (2017) based on KMTNet photometric observations during the 2016 apparition. We conducted follow-up observations in 2017 apparition using the 0.6-2.1m telescopes in the northern hemisphere to determine the spin state and shape model of this asteroid. We found that it is rotating in the Short Axis Mode (SAM) based on the determined rotation period ($P_{\psi}=374.6hr$) and precession period ($P_{\phi}=67.48hr$). The greatest and intermediate principal inertia moments are nearly the same as $I_b/I_c=0.94$, but the smallest principal inertia moments are nearly half that of the others, $I_a/I_c=0.43$. This ratio of principal inertia moments suggests that dynamically equivalent shape of this asteroid is close to that of a prolate ellipsoid. In this presentation, we will provide the physical model of (5247) Krylov to discuss its possible spin evolutionary processes that acted on its spin.

The influence of insertion of an ultra-thin Cu-Phthalocyanine (CuPc) between MgO barrier and ferromagnetic layer in magnetic tunnel juctions (MTJs) was investigated. In order to understand the relation between the electronic and structural properties of Fe${\backslash}$MgO${\backslash}$CuPc, the surface (or interface) analysis was carried out systematically by using spin polarized metastable He de-excited spectroscopy for the CuPc films grown on the Si(001)${\backslash}$5 nm MgO(001)${\backslash}$7 nm Fe(001)${\backslash}$1.6 nm MgO(001) multilayer structure as the thickness of CuPc increases from 0 to 5 nm. In particular, for the 1.6 nm CuPc surface, a rather strong spin asymmetry between up- and down-spin band appears while it becomes weaker or disappears for the CuPc films thinner or thicker than ~1.6 nm. Our results emphasize the importance of the interfacial electronic properties of organic layers in the spin transport of the hybrid MTJs.
In this research, magnetic properties and annealing effects of the spin valve structures were investigated, which have Ta underlayer deposited with Ar and $N_2$ gas mixture. Also, TaN underlayer as a diffusion barrier and the substrate were investigated. The structure of the spin valve was Si($SiO_2$)/Ta(TaN)/NiFe/CoFe/Cu/CoFe/FeMn/Ta. Deposition rate was decreased and resistivity and roughness of the TaN films were increased as the $N_2$ gas flow was increased. The XRD results after high temperature annealing showed that Silicides were created in Si/Ta layer, but not in Si/TaN layer. Magnetoresistance ratio (MR) and exchange coupling field ($H_{ex}$) were decreased when the $N_2$ gas flow was increased over 4.0 sccm. The MR of the spin valves with Ta and TaN films deposited with up to 4.0 sccm of $N_2$ gas flow was increased about $0.5\%$ until the annealing temperature of up to $200^{\circ}C$ and then, decreased. TaN film deposited with 8.0 sccm of $N_2$ gas flow showed twice the adhesion of the Ta film. The above results indicate that with 3.0 sccm of $N_2$ gas flow during the Ta underlayer deposition, the magnetic properties of the spin valves are maintained, while the underlayer may be used as a diffusion barrier and the adhesion between the Si substrate and the underlayer is increased.

In this paper, magnetic properties and annealing behavior of spin valve structures using Mo(MoN) layers as underlayers were studied varying the thickness of the underlayers. The spin valve structure was consisted of Si substrate/$SiO_2(2,000{\AA})/Mo(MoN)(t{\AA})/NiFe(21\;{\AA})/CoFe(28\;{\AA})/Cu(22\;{\AA})/CoFe(18\;{\AA})/IrMn(65\;{\AA})/Ta(25\;{\AA})$. Also, MoN films were deposited on Si substrates and their thermal annealing behavior was analyzed. The resistivity of the MoN film increased as the $N_2$ gas flow rate was increased. After annealing at $600^{\circ}C$, XRD results did not show peaks of silicides. XPS results indicated MoN film deposited with 5 sccm of $N_2$ gas flow rate was more stable than the film deposited with 1 sccm of $N_2$ gas flow rate. The variations of MR ratio and magnetic exchange coupling fold were small for the spin valve structures using Mo(MoN) underlayers up to thickness of45 ${\AA}$. MR ratio of spin valves using MoN underlayers deposited with various $N_2$ gas flow rate was about 7.0% at RT and increased to about 7.5% after annealing at $220^{\circ}C$. Upon annealing at $300^{\circ}C$, the MR ratio decreased to about 3.5%. Variation of $N_2$ gas flow rate up to 5 sccm did not change the MR ratio and $H_{ex}$ appreciably.

Magnetoelectric (ME) effects for lanthanum modified $BiFeO_3-PbTiO_3\;(BE-_xPT)$ solid solutions have been investigated. The value of magnetoelectric polarization coefficient, up is 10 times greater than that of $Cr_2O_3$. The results also show that up is due to a linear coupling between polarization and magnetization, and that up is independent of do magnetic bias and ac magnetic field. The ME effect is believed to be significantly enhanced due to breaking of the cycloidal spin state of a long-period spiral spin structure, via randomly distributed charged imperfections.
A rich phenomenon in the dynamics of azimuthal vortices in a circular cylinder caused by the inertial oscillation is investigated numerically at high Reynolds numbers and moderate Rossby numbers. In the actual spin-up flow where both the Ekman circulation and the bottom friction effects are included, the first appearance of a seed vortex is generated by the Ekman boundary-layer on the bottom wall and the subsequent roll-up near the corner bounded by the side wall. The existence of the small vortex then rapidly propagates toward the inviscid region and induces a complicated pattern in the distribution of azimuthal vorticity, i.e. inertial oscillation. The inertial oscillation however does not deteriorate the classical Ekman-pumping model in the time scale larger than that of the oscillatory motion. Motions of single vortex and a pair of vortices are further investigated under a slip boundary-condition on the solid walls. For the case of single vortex, repeated change of the vorticity sign is observed together with typical propagation of inertial waves. For the case of a pair of vortices with a two-step profile in the initial azimuthal velocity, the vortices' movement toward the outer region is resisted by the crescent-shape vortices surrounding the pair. After touching the border between the core and outer regions, the pair vortices weaken very fast.
A novel method to measure the scale factor for the all-optical atomic spin inertial measurement device (ASIMD) is demonstrated in this paper. The method can realize the calibration of the scale factor by a self-consistent method with small errors in the quiescent state. At first, the matured IMU (inertial measurement unit) device was fixed on an optical platform together with the ASIMD, and it has been used to calibrate the scale factor for the ASIMD. The results show that there were some errors causing the inaccuracy of the experiment. By the comparative analysis of theory and experiment, the ASIMD was unable to keep pace with the IMU. Considering the characteristics of the ASIMD, the mismatch between the driven frequency of the optical platform and the bandwidth of the ASIMD was the major reason. An all-optical atomic spin magnetometer was set up at first. The sensitivity of the magnetometer is ultra-high, and it can be used to detect the magnetization of spin-polarized noble gas. The gyromagnetic ratio of the noble gas is a physical constant, and it has already been measured accurately. So a novel calibration method for scale factor based on the gyromagnetic ratio has been presented. The relevant theoretical analysis and experiments have been implemented. The results showed that the scale factor of the device was $7.272V/^{\circ}/s$ by multi-group experiments with the maximum error value 0.49%.
We present the rectifying and nitrogen monoxide (NO) gas sensing properties of an oxide semiconductor heterostructure composed of n-type zinc oxide (ZnO) and p-type copper oxide thin layers. A CuO thin layer was first formed on an indium-tin-oxide-coated glass substrate by sol-gel spin coating method using copper acetate monohydrate and diethanolamine as precursors; then, to form a p-n oxide heterostructure, a ZnO thin layer was spin-coated on the CuO layer using copper zinc dihydrate and diethanolamine. The crystalline structures and microstructures of the heterojunction materials were examined using X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. The observed current-voltage characteristics of the p-n oxide heterostructure showed a non-linear diode-like rectifying behavior at various temperatures ranging from room temperature to $200^{\circ}C$. When the spin-coated ZnO/CuO heterojunction was exposed to the acceptor gas NO in dry air, a significant increase in the forward diode current of the p-n junction was observed. It was found that the NO gas response of the ZnO/CuO heterostructure exhibited a maximum value at an operating temperature as low as $100^{\circ}C$ and increased gradually with increasing of the NO gas concentration up to 30 ppm. The experimental results indicate that the spin-coated ZnO/CuO heterojunction structure has significant potential applications for gas sensors and other oxide electronics.
