  • ZnO/n-Si junctions were fabricated by spin coating with ZnO precursor produced by the sol-gel process. In order to increase the electrical conductivity of ZnO films, the films were n-doped with Al impurity and subsequently annealed at about $450^{\circ}C$ under reducing environments. The ohmic contacts between n-Si and AI for a bottom electrode were successfully fabricated by doping the rear surface of Si substrate with phosphorous atoms. The front surface of the substrate was also doped with phosphorous atoms for improving the efficiency of the solar cells. Consequently, conversion efficiencies ranging up to about 5.3% were obtained. These efficiencies were found to decrease slowly with time because of the oxide films formed at the ZnO/Si interface upon oxygen penetration through the porous ZnO. Oxygen barrier layers could be necessary in order to prevent the reduction of conversion efficiencies.

  • This study has investigated radiation degradation of low density polyethylene(LDPE). Samples were irradiated using a $Co^{60}\;\gamma-ray$ and ray up to 800 kGy at a dose rate of 5 kGy/hr in the presence of air atmosphere at room temperature. After irradiation, free radical measurement of LDPE has established by electron spin resonance(ESR). Then, each sample was stored for 2 weeks. ESR measurement showed that free radical concentration(FRC) was increased with radiation dose and changed from alkyl, allyl radical to peroxy radical with time.

  • $(TMTSF)_2BF_4$ containing non-centrosymmetric anions is well known to exhibit a metal insulator transition around 37 K by ordering of the anions with a $q_2$=(1/2, 1/2, 1/2) wave vector. We established pressure-temperature phase diagram of the $(TMTSF)_2BF_4$ compound and showed that it can belong to the general phase diagram of the $(TMTSF)_2X$ family. Application of hydrostatic pressure decreases the anion ordering transition temperature and the superconducting state is finally stabilized below 3.77 K under 7.7 kbar. Magnetoresistance measurement on the $(TMTSF)_2BF_4$ under 7.8 kbar is performed but neither the field-induced spin-density-wave state nor the rapid oscillation is observed up to 9 T.

  • Gravitational-wave (GW) sources for the next decades would be in majority binaries consisting of neutron stars and/or black holes reside in the extragalactic environment. For example, GW170817 was the first extragalactic neutron star - neutron star binary found by GW observations and it was proved the power of multi-messenger astronomy (MMA) including the KMTNet observations. With the ever increased sensitivity, the $3^{rd}$ observation run (O3) led by the advanced LIGO and advanced Virgo this year aims to search for more 'standard' populations as well as 'exotic' ones expected by stellar evolution. I will present highlights of on-going efforts by researchers in Korea and those in abroad for estimating physical parameters of a source. Mass, spin, distance, and location are prerequisite information to constrain theoretical understanding of the source formation and evolution. Furthermore, these information are to be shared with the international community for follow-up multi-messenger observations. I will present the observational accuracy expected for the future GW observations and discuss their implications. If time allows, I will make a few remarks on prospects of O3 with KAGRA collaborations, which many domestic researchers are closely involved in.

  • Recently, the worldwide demand for disposable masks has increased due to COVID-19 infections and severe air pollution. Personal masks should reduce breathe resistance while maintaining filtering performance. In this study, a solution blowing process is used to produce composite nanofiber filters to co-spin two polymers at once. The manufacture process of the various fiber diameter filter was designed, and the filtration performance and differential pressure of the prepared filter was investigated. Poly vinylidene fluoride-hexafluoropropylene (PVDF-HFP) and Polylactic acid (PLA) fibers were chosen to be entangled together in a layer with a diameter of 1.05 ㎛ and 0.33 ㎛. Composite nanofilters showed up to 87% filtration efficiency and 32 Pa differential pressure.

  • We first report the GMR effect of new macroscopic ferrimagnet, Co-TbN. The Co-TbN system demonstrates typical macroscopic ferrimagnet properties which are a magnetic compensation Point and negative giant magnetoresistance (GMR) which is caused by the spin scattering contribution quite different from those of ordinary GMR materials. The Co-TbN system with 32 % TbN composition showed 0.72 % GMR in fields up to 8 kOe at room temperature and 9 % GMR at 250 K in 40 kOe. The GMR effect in the Co-TbN system increases with increasing temperature, which is due to the increase of ferromagnetic alignment of the Co and TbN in a field caused by the decrease of exchange coupling by temperature.

  • On March 6 2021, Apophis made a close approach to the Earth with a minimum distance of 0.11 AU when the apparent magnitude reached up to V~16. This was the most favorable condition to observe this asteroid until its 2029 encounter. The observations during this apparition were extremely important to determine major physical properties, such as size, rotational state, 3D shape model, surface mineral properties. So, we organized the observation campaign during the 2021 apparition. The main goals of our campaign are to refine the spin state and 3D shape model and check the surface composition variations. The campaign involved dozens of countries and included ground-based photometry and spectroscopy, and spacecraft observations. Our timely observation campaign will provide essential data in planning the operation scenario for the space mission. In this presentation, we will report the preliminary result of the Apophis observation campaign during the 2021 apparition.

  • In this research, kinematic comparative analysis was performed on strokes of abscission and spinal cord injured athletes who participated in 2008 Beijing Paralympics wheelchair table tennis games. Strokes of all situations were collected under real match-like conditions. Among those, three major forehand stroke motions and backhand stroke motions were drawn Data collected by 9 infrared cameras were expressed in angular motions using graphic program LabVIEW7.0. As a result, forehand stroke of spin handicap athlete from analyzed images, the rotations of the trunk happened with the rotations of shoulder and the flexion extensions of elbow nearly at the same time. According to these results, insufficient turning force or speed of rackets is recompensed using flexion. backhand stroke of spin handicap athlete from analyzed images, the rotations of the trunk, the flexion extensions of the elbow and the flexion extensions of the shoulder were lined up on the prolongations of ping-pong balls. Forehand stroke of abscission athletes was done by outward rotation of the arm using backswing and inner rotation. As for backhand stroke, backswing was made by inner rotation in the spin of shoulder and waist. And after the backswing, impact was formed in wide outer rotation towards the ball.

  • Anti-reflective and anti-static double layered films were prepared on the VDT panel by sol-gel spin-coating method. Their electrical, opticla, and mechanical properties were investigated. The outer SiO2 film with low re-fractive index was coated over the inner ATO(Antimony-doped Tin Oxide)-SiO2 film which was prepared by mixing ATO sol with SiO2 at molar ratio of 68:32 to satisfy the interference condition of double layers. The heat treatment was conducted at 45$0^{\circ}C$ for 30 min where residual organics were completely removed. The sheet resistance of ATO single layer showed the minimum value of 6$\times$107$\Omega$/$\square$ at 3 mol% addition of Sb and that of SiO2/ATO-SiO2 increased slightly with increasing SiO2 mol% up to 30 mol%, and then increased steeply to the value of 3$\times$108$\Omega$/$\square$ at 32 mol%. The reflectance of double layered films was about 0.64% at the wavelength of 550nm and the transmittance increased about 3.20%. The hardness of double layered films was almost the same as that of uncoated VDT panel, 471.4kg.f/mm2.

  • It has been known that quantum confinement effect of CdSe nanocrystal was observed by increasing the number of deposition cycle using successive ionic layer adsorption and reaction (SILAR) method. Here, we report on thermally-induced quantum confinement effect of CdSe at the given cycle number using spin-coating technology. A cation precursor solution containing $0.3\;M\;Cd(NO_3)_2{\cdot}4H_2O$ is spun onto a $TiO_2$ nanoparticulate film, which is followed by spinning an anion precursor solution containing $0.3\;M\;Na_2\;SeSO_3$ to complete one cycle. The cycle is repeated up to 10 cycles, where the spin-coated $TiO_2$ film at each cycle is heated at temperature ranging from $100^{\circ}C$ to $250^{\circ}C$. The CdSe-sensitized $TiO_2$ nanostructured film is contacted with polysulfide redox electrolyte to construct photoelectrochemical solar cell. Photovoltaic performance is significantly dependent on the heat-treatment temperature. Incident photon-to-current conversion efficiency (IPCE) increases with increasing temperature, where the onset of the absorption increases from 600 nm for the $100^{\circ}C$- to 700 nm for the $150^{\circ}C$- and to 800 nm for the $200^{\circ}C$- and the $250^{\circ}C$-heat treatment. This is an indicative of quantum size effect. According to Tauc plot, the band gap energy decreases from 2.09 eV to 1.93 eV and to 1.76 eV as the temperature increases from $100^{\circ}C$ to $150^{\circ}C$ and to $200^{\circ}C$ (also $250^{\circ}C$), respectively. In addition, the size of CdSe increases gradually from 4.4 nm to 12.8 nm as the temperature increases from $100^{\circ}C$ to $250^{\circ}C$. From the differential thermogravimetric analysis, the increased size in CdSe by increasing the temperature at the same deposition condition is found to be attributed to the increase in energy for crystallization with $dH=240cal/^{\circ}C$. Due to the thermally induced quantum confinement effect, the conversion efficiency is substantially improved from 0.48% to 1.8% with increasing the heat-treatment temperature from $100^{\circ}C$ to $200^{\circ}C$.
