Combined Dithered Sigma-Delta Modulation based Random PWM Switching Scheme

  • The PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) control signals have a drawback in that their power spectrum tends to be concentrated around the switching frequency and the resulting harmonic spikes cause an EMI (Electromagnetic Interference) and switching losses in semiconductors, etc. The SDM (Sigma-Delta Modulation) is a type of switching modulation used to reduce these harmonic spikes, and several SDM schemes are investigated in this paper. In the DSDM (Dithered SDM), the SDSDM (Space-Dithered SDM) and TDSDM (Time-Dithered SDM), the signals are classified by the location of their random dither additions. In these schemes, the switching frequency is spread by a random dither generator placed on the input or the output parts. Experimental results are presented where the advantages of the new proposed CDSDM (Combined Dithered SDM) are confirmed by applying to a buck converter.

  • In the EMG evaluation, the neuropathy may be diagnosed by a detection of denervation potentials in the group of muscles. These abnomal potentials might be confused with normal endplate spikes. In this paper we present the software algorithm in C, which automatically detects spontaneous activity such as denervation potentials and endplate potentials and distingushes between those potentials. Parameters with statistically significant differences were used for this automated algorithm. It was concluded that the algorithm established in this study will improve accuracy in EMG diagnosis.

  • The electrochemical spike oscillations at the nickel (Ni) electrode/(0.05M KHC$_{8}$H$_{4}$O$_{4}$) buffer solution (pH 9) interface have been studied using voltammetric and chronoamperometric methods. The nature of the periodic cathodic current spikes is the activation controlled currents due to the hydrogen evolution reaction and depends onthe fractioanl surface coverage of the adsorbed hydrogen intermediate or the cathodic potential. There is two kinds of the waveforms corresponding to two kinds of the cathodic current spike oscillations. The widths, periods, and amplitudes of the cathodic current spikes are 4 ms or 5ms, 151 ms or 302 ms, and < 30 mA or < 275 mA, respectively. The fast discharge and recombination reaction steps are 1.5 times and twice and faster than the slow discharge and recombination reaction steps. The fast and slow discharge and recombination reaction steps are 1.5 times and twice faster than the slow discharge and recombination reaction steps. The fast and slow discharge and recombination reactions corresponding to the fast and slow adsorption sites at the Ni cathode.

  • One of the way to derive design parameters of the fuel feeding system in satellite is to analyze unsteady flow of liquid propellant (hydrazine) in the propulsion system. During steady thruster firing the flow rate is constant: if a thruster valve is abruptly shut down among a sets of thrusters, pressure spikes much higher than the initial tank pressure occur. This renders the fuel flow unsteady, and the fluid pressure and flow rate to oscillate. If the pressure spikes are high enough, there are possibilities that propellant explosively decomposes, thruster valves are damaged, and adiabatic detonation of the hydrazine propellant is potentially incurred. Reflected shockwaves could also affect the calibration and operation of the pressure transducers. These necessitate the analysis of unsteady flow in the propulsion system design, and the calculation results obtained through some governing parameter variation are presented in this work.

영상 에지 정보를 이용한 히스토그램 평활화 기법의 개선 (An Improvement of Histogram Equalization Using Edge Information of an Image)

  • The paper presents a histogram equalization method using the edge information of an image to be processed. The basic idea of this method is to carry out histogram equalization with edge information, which is important and essential for object conformation. In the proposed method, the edge information is used to generate histogram for the equalization process. It is found to be effective to suppress the histogram spikes that cause quantum jumps in mapping function for the equalization process. The proposed method is tested for randomly selected 30 images and compared to conventional approaches with a quantitative measure to check it preserves the structural similarity. Experimental results show that the proposed method has better performance and no artifacts caused by histogram spikes.

  • This article discusses the microvibration analysis of a cantilever configured reaction wheel assembly. Disturbances induced by the reaction wheel assembly were measured using a previously designed platform. Modelling strategies for the effect of damping are presented. Sine-sweep tests are performed and a method is developed to model harmonic excitations based on the corresponding test results. The often ignored broadband noise is modelled by removing spikes identified in the raw signal including a method of identifying spikes from energy variation and band-stop filter design. The validation of the reaction wheel disturbance model with full excitations (harmonics and broadband noise) is presented and flaws due to missing broadband noise in conventional reaction wheel assembly microvibration analysis are discussed.

  • The Schizonepeta tenuifolia spikes (STS) have been used as a traditional folk medicine for antiinflammatory, analgesic, anti-pyretic and anti-spasmodic purpose in Korea. Phytosterols (mixture of campesterol 3.68%, stigmasterol 2.30% and ${\beta}$-sitosterol 94.02%) and hesperidin were isolated by chromatography from ether and n-BuOH fractions of STS respectively. These compounds significantly reduced the blood glucose level and lessened the loss of body weight and water consumption dose-dependently when administered at a i.p. doses of 10 and 20 mg/kg for 4 days after the i.v. injection of streptozotocin (I 80 mg/kg). In the morphologic study, these compounds showed protective activity on the pancreatic islets, especially .betha.-cells, from the degenerative changes by streptozotocin.

Relationship between Yield and Weather Elements of Barley in Sunchon Area, Korea

  • This study was conducted to investigate the relationships between yearly variations of weather elements and productivity in rice. In addition, coefficients of correlation among yield and yield components were used to find out the relationships between weather elements and productivity. Coefficients of variance (C.V.) of air temperature mean was considerable with 25%, but the variation by duration of sunshine was small in May. Culm length and number of spikes were great with c.v. of 21.5, 16.4%, respectively. Coefficients of correlation between temperatures of cultivation in May and yield were positive correlations. Coefficients of correlation between precipitation and sunshine of cultivation period from Oct. to May and yield were negative correlations. Coefficients of correlation amount the culm length, number of spikes, 1,000 grains wt. of seed, and yield were positively significant at the level of 1 %, respectively.

결장뉴 전기활동도에 대한 칼슘 길항제의 영향 (Effects of $Ca^{2+}-antagonists$ on the electrical activity of guinea-pig taenia coli)

  • The influences of $Ca^{2+}-antagonists$, verapamil and $Mn^{2+}$, upon the spontaneous electrical activity and contractions were studied in guinea-pig taenia coli. Spontaneous contractions were recorded with force transducer, and spike action potentials were measured extracellularly by use of suction electrode. All experiments were performed in tris-buffered Tyrode solution Which was aerated With 100% $O_2$ and kept at $35^{\circ}C$. The results obtained were as follows : 1) Verapamil suppressed the frequency and amplitude of spontaneous contractions dose dependently, and blocked completely mechanical responses at the concentration of 1 mg/1. 2) The frequency of bursts of spike discharge(bursts frequency) and the number of spikes in a burst(spikes frequency) were reduced in a dose·dependent manner within the concentration range of $10^{-5}$ to $10^{-3}g/l$, and bursts frequency was affected more readily at a low concentration of $10^{-5}g/l$ verapamil. 3) The verapamil_induced suppression of spontaneous contractions in the Tyrode solution containing 1 mM $Ca^{2+}$ was completely antagonized by the addition of extra $Ca^{2+}$ to the Tyrode solution $(2\;m\;MCa^{2+})$. 4) $Mn^{2+}$ suppressed the amplitude of spontaneous contractions, whereas $Mn^{2+}$ accelerated the frequency dose-dependently within the range of low concentrations$(10^{-7}\;to\;10^{-4}\;M\;Mn^{2+})$. 5) The bursts frequency determining frequency of spontaneous contractions was increased in a dose-dependent manner, whereas the spikes frequency known to determine the contractions amplitude was reduced within the range of low concentrations. At a high concentration of 1 mM $Mn^{2+}$, however, all spontaneous contractile responses were blocked simultaneously with the disapperance of electrical activity. 6) The frequency and amplitude of spontaneous contractions altered by $Mn^{2+}$ in 1mM $Ca^{2+}$ Tyrode were increased by extra $Ca^{2+}(2mM)$.

웨이블릿 패킷 변환을 이용한 초음파 거리계 스파이크 제거 기법 (Ultrasonic Rangefinder Spike Rejection Method Using Wavelet Packet Transform)

  • 본 논문은 초음파 거리계를 이용하는 쿼드로터 무인항공기의 고도 제어 성능 향상을 위한 웨이블릿 패킷 변환 기법을 제시하였다. 쿼드로터의 수직 이착륙 시 많이 사용되는 초음파 거리계를 이용하여 지상시험을 수행하였다. 초음파 거리계는 정반사율 (specular reflectance)과 음향 잡음 (acoustic noise)으로 인한 신호의 스파이크가 생긴다. 짧은 시간 간격으로 발생하는 스파이크는 시간과 주파수 영역에서의 동시 분석을 필요로 한다. 이에 초음파 거리계의 스파이크를 웨이블릿 패킷 변환을 이용하여 분석하였다. DWT (discrete wavelet transform)에 비해 웨이블릿 패킷 분해가 더 풍부한 시간-주파수 국소 정보를 얻을 수 있어 초음파 신호의 스파이크를 분석하고 처리하기에 더 효과적이다. 실험결과 초음파 거리계의 스파이크를 효과적으로 제거할 수 있음을 확인하였다.
