In this study, high velocity impact tests along with modeling of material behavior and numerical analyses were conducted to predict the dispersion behavior of the debris resulting from a high velocity impact fracture. For the impact tests, two different materials were employed for both the projectile and the target plate - the first setup employed aluminum alloy while the second employed steel. The projectile impacts the target plate with a velocity of approximately 1 km/s were enforced to generate the impact damages in the aluminum witness plate through the fracture debris. It was confirmed that, depending on the material employed, the debris dispersion behavior as well as the dispersion radii on the witness plate varied. A numerical analysis was conducted for the same impact test conditions. The smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH)-finite element (FE) coupled technique was then applied to model the fracture and damage upon the debris. The experimental and numerical results for the diameters of the perforation holes in the target plate and the debris dispersion radii on the witness plate were in agreement within a 5% error. In addition, the impact test using steel was found to be more threatening as proven by the larger debris dispersion radius.
In the hierarchical universe, galaxy merger is predicted to be frequent, and thus it is an important element for understanding galaxy evolution. In particular, star formation is greatly enhanced during the merger. The aim of this study is to understand the position and rate change of star formation caused by equal-mass edge-on mergers. We use the GADGET2- N-body/SPH code, and fully consider gas cooling, star formation, and supernova feedback. We show the star formation rate (SFR), and the magnitude and color evolution of the merger remnants for 18 different configurations varying orbit elements and inclinations of host galaxies against orbit planes. Then we construct the mock images of the remnants and investigate on how equal-mass galaxy merger affects the SFR and color/magnitude evolution while considering dust reddening. We conclude that over 90% mass of SF in equal-mass merger is in the central region. SF in tidal feature involves a small fraction of new stars and thus is difficult to detect unless deep imaging is performed. Around 55 ${\pm}$ 5 percent of gas turns into stars until the final coalescence which typically corresponds to 0.8, 1.2, and 2.5 Gyr for direct, parabolic, and elliptical orbit, respectively. This result is roughly consistent with Cox et al. 2000. We plan to implement this result into semi-analytic model of galaxy formation. Caveats and future work on merging conditions are discussed.
As products are getting more diverse and new products are entering the market faster, customers have trouble learning how to use them. User-oriented menu structures may solve this problem. In order to design user-oriented menu structures, spreading activation theory has been studied. The spreading activation test shows that the strong associative relationship between words has shorter response times. Based on the spreading activation test, asymmetric spreading activation was introduced and a hypothesis that in a well-designed menu structure, association between upper-low menu pairs is not affected by an activation direction was tested for this study. In this study the menu of a cellular phone (Model: SPH-w2900) was extracted, and underwent 1st spreading activation tests. Then, on each menu pair, response time differences (asymmetric transition) by accuracy and directions were analyzed to find out problems in labels and improve menu structures and vocabulary. Second spreading activation tests were conducted to check whether asymmetric transitions decreased. The results showed that response time differences (asymmetric transition) for activation directions were found to be dropped significantly. Asymmetric transitions in spreading activation presented in this study will be helpful to define user-oriented menu structures.
A 6.1 kb Sph I fragment from the genomic DNA of Pseudomonas putida SM 25 was cloned into the veetor pUC19. The open reading frame of catB was found to consist of 1,122 nucleotides. The sequence alignment of the catB gene products from different kinds of bacteria revealed an overall identity ranging from 40 to 98%. The catC gene contained an open reading frame of 96 codons, from which a protein with a molecular mass of about 10.6 kDa was predicted. The amino acids in the proposed activesite region of CatC were found to be almost conserved, including the charged residues. Since the catBC genes in P. putida SM25 were tightly linked, the could be regulated under coordinate transcription, and transcribed from a single promoter located upstream of the catB gene, as in P. putida RBI.
Simulating the clumping and stiffness of wet hair or fur is a challenging problem. The dynamics of wet hair or fur is characterized by the clumping and stiffness at the tip, which is easily seen in running animals or headbanging scenes. Existing methods address these phenomenon within pre-set scenarios. But there is no consensus on the method of depicting the details of wet hair. Hence, the present paper proposes a new method of modeling the clumping and stiffness of wet hair or fur. Previous studies focused on modeling the absorption of water into hair or fur, whereas this paper highlights a realistic simulation of wet hair. Unlike dry hair strands, wet hair strands adjacent to one another are subjected to the clumping force and gather together, while at the same time becoming stiff as the saturation of water increases. The proposed method builds on the surface tension model based on SPH (smoothed particle hydrodynamics) to simulate the clumping force and to adjust the hair elasticity by giving stiffness constraints. The present method enables a realistic simulation of wet hair by maintaining the clumping force of the wet hair even in dynamic motions, and by simulating the stiffness of hair in line with water saturation.

To verify importance of the intervening sequence between the ribosome binding site (RBS) and the initiation codon for expression of Bacillus thuringiensis $\delta$-endotoxin, the pProMu, containing SphI and NcoIsites between RBS and the initiation codon of the cry1Ac gene, and the deletion derivatives of pProMu were constructed and transformed into the B. thuringiensis subsp. kurstaki $Cry^{-B}$ strain. The pProMu-ΔSphIhad identical six bases of intervening sequence to pProAc though the arrangement of sequence was different. Other mutants containing pProMu had 1 or 10 or 14 bases between RBS and the initiation codon. Among deletion mutants, only ProMu-ΔSphI/CB only produced 130 kDa typical bipyramidal crystals like those seen for ProAc/CB. However, ProMu/CB, $ProMu-{\Delta}NcoI$, and ProMu-ΔSphI+NcoIdid not produce Cry1Ac crystals. In conclusion, the results suggest that 6-base intervening sequence was important for expression of cry1-type class gene. Furthermore, spacing effect of the intervening sequences may play an important role in expression of individual crystal proteins in B. thuringiensis without doubt.

Nowadays, the needs to revise the classification criteria for noise emission facilities have been suggested by the related industries. Because there existed many reasonable factors in the criteria regarding the noise emission facilities. And the noise emission facility classification criterion of the print machine changed from 50 HP to 100 HP in 2013. But the increasement of the noise emission facility classification criterion of the print machine can cause adverse effects like the bigger noise. So, in this paper, we measured the print machine's sound power level according to the changes of the print machine's power to assess the adverse effects. The measurement method applied with KS I ISO 9614-2(1996). The corelation between the sound power level and the power of print machines was analyzed by regression analysis. In this paper, we found that the sound power level of the print machines can increase about 1.3 dB in the condition of that the power of print machine increases from 50 HP to 100 HP. And we found that the sound power level of the print machines can increase about 1.0 dB for a increasement of 1,000 SPH(sheet per hour) of printing speed. The noise emission characteristics of print machine stuied in this paper will be useful to design the noise reduction plan in the future.
We report the construction of two Bacillus subtilis expression vectors, pBNS1/pBNS2. Both vectors are based on the strong promoter P43 and the ampicillin resistance gene expression cassette. Additionally, a fragment with the Shine-Dalgarno sequence and a multiple cloning site (BamHI, SalI, SacI, XhoI, PstI, SphI) were inserted. The coding region for the amyQ (encoding an amylase) signal peptide was fused to the promoter P43 of pBNS1 to construct the secreted expression vector pBNS2. The applicability of vectors was tested by first generating the expression vectors pBNS1-GFP/pBNS2-GFP and then detecting for green fluorescent protein gene expression. Next, the mannanase gene from B. pumilus Nsic-2 was fused to vector pBNS2 and we measured the mannanase activity in the supernatant. The mannanase total enzyme activity was 8.65 U/ml, which was 6 times higher than that of the parent strain. Our work provides a feasible way to achieve an effective transformation system for gene expression in B. subtilis and is the first report to achieve B. pumilus mannanase secretory expression in B. subtilis.

In Computer Graphics, interaction between a particle-based fluid and a rigid body is important. In General, this interaction has been simulated in a discrete environment. As a result, there have been lots of errors. The larger the time step is used, the bigger the error is. This paper describes how to minimize the error in a discrete environment. To be specific, the collision handling method is that estimates particle collision using a signed distance function increases continuously according to space. At the time a fluid particle and a rigid body model collide, the exact collision time and the position is estimated. Through this, we propose the method how to be simulated the interaction between a fluid and a rigid body model as a continuous environment.
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to compare the visual performance by contrast sensitivity (CS) and disability glare (DG) in low astigmatic eyes corrected with toric soft lenses and other optical corrections. Methods: Twenty university students with myopia (-1.00 to -6.50D Sph. with astigmatism up to 1.50 cyl) were enrolled and corrected by five different methods: 1) soft toric lenses; 2) spherical soft contact lenses; 3) RGP lenses; 4) best spectacle corrected visual acuity; 5) spherical equivalent spectacles. All subjects had corrected vision acuity of 20/20 or better. Contrast sensitivity and disability glare were measured using the OPTEC 6500 contrast sensitivity view-in tester included the EyeView Functional Vision Analysis software at photopic or mesopic conditions with glare. Results: At photopic condition, best corrected spectacle wearers had the highest monocular contrast sensitivity at all spatial frequency followed by soft toric lenses, RGP lenses, spherical equivalent spectacles, and spherical soft contact lenses. However, all of them were in normal contrast sensitivity value at photopic condition. At mesopic condition with glare, toric soft lenses were the highest and followed by RGP lenses, spherical equivalent spectacles, best spectacle corrected visual acuity and spherical soft contact lenses. It was observed that spherical soft contact lens wearers demonstrated lower range than normal contrast sensitivity value at mesopic condition with glare. Conclusion: Toric soft lenses gave better visual performance than spherical soft lenses in low astigmatic eyes. Subjects requiring the use of contact lenses under mesophic conditions could benefit from toric soft lenses.
