Pepper has been the second important income source of Korean farmer. Provided the agricultural market in Korea is opened, pepper of which price is more than three times of the world market price can not survive with current cultivation practice. Pepper harvesters have been developed in some countries but, they are not feasible in Korea due to difference of varieties, cultivation practice and climate between Korea and other countries. This is a fundamental study to develop a pepper harvester suitable to the current situation in Korea. Physical properties of a pepper plant and its fruit were investigated. Also, a pair of open helices was selected as a pepper removing mechanism and tested to determine the best operating conditions. This study revealed that a pepper harvester with more than 90% of pepper recovery is attainable. Best rotating speed of open helices with 30cm diameter and conveying velocity of pepper main stem were determined to be 180 rpm and 0.1 m/s respectively.

Several parallelization methods that can be applied to High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) decoders are evaluated. The market requirements of high-resolution videos, such as Full HD and UHD, have been increasing. To satisfy the market requirements, several parallelization methods for HEVC decoders have been studied. Understanding these parallelization methods and objective comparisons of these methods are crucial to the real-time decoding of high-resolution videos. This paper introduces the parallelization methods that can be used in HEVC decoders and evaluates the parallelization methods comparatively. The experimental results show that the average speed-up factors of tile-level parallelism, wavefront parallel processing (WPP), frame-level parallelism, and 2D-wavefront parallelism are observed up to 4.59, 4.00, 2.20, and 3.16, respectively.

In this paper, an estimation methodology for stand-by energy savings of electric appliances is proposed and some case studies are carried out for televisions. The methodology is based on learning curves and diffusion models, which are able to explain the market characteristics such as market prices and the diffusion speed. Some models were developed to estimate power and energy savings for high-efficient appliances and these model have been used broadly. These models are also applied to this study and modified to estimate stand-by energy savings.

인터파크의 도서부문인 북파크는 비교적 일찍부터 온라인 도서판매를 시작해 왔으나 그 성과는 지지 부진하였으며, 도서 전문몰에 항상 뒤쳐져 있었다. 북파크의 부진은 인터파크 전체 성과에도 악영향을 미쳐서 인터파크의 대기업 계열의 인터넷 쇼핑몰과의 경쟁에서도 허덕이고 있었다. 이 때 배수진을 치고전임직원들이 과감히 승부수를 던진 것이 바로 도서무료배송 전면적 실시였다. 도서무료배송은 배송비증가로 인한 수익악화와 경쟁업체의 모방이라는 위험이 있었지만, 간접적인 가격할인 효과로 인한 도서 매출의 증대와 타 품목으로의 구매전환이라는 긍정적인 밤항에 승부를 걸었던 것이다. 이를 통해 인터파크는 온라인 도서부분 1위 업체로 부상했다. 또한 이를 바탕으로 전체매출액에서도 쇼핑몰 업계 1위를 탈환하는 성과를 달성하였다. 이는 고객지항적인 태도로 사전에 철저한 시장 고객분석을 통해 도서무료배송의 성공에 대한 확신을 가지고 경쟁사보다 앞서간 결과였다. 본 사례는 인터넷 마케팅에서 시장선점을 위한 과감한 승부수와 이를 뒷받침하는 절저한 시장과 경쟁사 분석이 얼마나 중요한지를 보여주고 있다.

반도체 설계기술의 발달로 구현 회로가 복잡해지고, 동작속도가 크게 증가함에 따라, 반도체 이후 (post-silicon) 설계 단계에서 repair를 위한 기간 및 비용이 크게 증가하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 예비 셀을 이용한 repair 방법을 통해 설계 오류로 인한 repair시 혹은 설계 변경 시에 전체 재설계를 최소화하는 방법을 제안하였다. 또한 예비 셀을 이용한 설계 변경 과정에서 repair layer에 설계 변경을 국한하여 mask 비용과 time-to-market을 줄이는 방법을 개발하였다. 또한 회로 분할을 통해 repair 과정에서 사용하는 예비회로의 비용을 줄일 수 있도록 한다.

The current transportation regime is largely based on two alternatives: (1) fixed route public transit, and (2) private ownership of internal combustion engine (ICE) powered vehicles per households. This paper analyzes one possible transportation alternative, Micro Electric Vehicles or MEVs, and compares with the ICE vehicles in terms of social, economic and environmental benefits, especially emphasizing its environmental advantage over ICE vehicles for future sustainability. While some representative models of MEVs exist in a limited market capacity, but global technical standards are generally insufficient and non-homogenous across nations, which restricts the development of the proposed transportation sector. The focus of this paper is to analyze the characteristics and potential benefits of MEVs in economical and environmental perspectives, including development status and technical standards, with a particular focus in the E.U., the U.S., Japan, and Korea. Based on the data of analysis, this paper aims to derive and propose a cooperative and adaptive global policy framework designed to speed up adoption and expansion of the global MEV market, including passenger and utility vehicles. We propose MEV to be a new mobility segment in the global transportation market because of their advantage in environmental impact, sustainability, overall cost of ownership, and safety.

This study analyzes factors affecting the competitiveness of broadband over power line communication (BPLC) and predicts demand for the service, based on quantitative information about consumer preferences drawn from a survey of Korean consumers. Findings from the estimation suggest that, although consumers value some beneficial features of BPLC, to be competitive the speed and stability of its data transmission needs to be improved. Moreover, on the basis of a market simulation, we expect BPLC to occupy only a small portion of Korea's Internet access market in the future, a finding we expect would hold true for other developed countries whose Internet access markets are already mature.

This paper examines a significant example of accumulation of technology in post war Japan - the development process of the videocasstte recorder (VCR) for home use, and the dynamic evolution process of the mass market. The purpose of analyzing the Japanese home VCR industry is to clarify how and why only the Japanese makers had succeeded in developing home VCR and dominated. the global mass market and to make clear the dynamic process of industrial evolution. This study found out the following facts; 1) Japanese inter-firm interactions in the VCR have been carried out by the structure of "the competition and cooperation among the engaged players" form the initial stage, to growing, and maturing stage. 2) The process of competition and cooperation produced the revolutionary innovation through a continuous systematic development process in the R&D phase. 3) The process of competition and cooperation accelerated the speed of technological progress and the rapid growth of the industry in the growing and maturing stage.

The economic value of a wind farm project is influenced by various risk factors such as wind power output and electricity market price. In particular, there is uncertainty in the economic evaluation of a wind farm project due to uncertain wind power outputs, which are fluctuated by weather factors such as wind speed, and volatile electricity market prices. This paper presents a systematic method to assess the economic value and payback period of a wind farm project using Least Square Monte-Carlo (LSMC) simulation. Numerical example is presented to validate the effectiveness of the proposed economic assessment method for a wind farm project.

Optical disks are widely used in libraries and archives as digital data media due to their long-term storage stability. Though archive-grade optical disks are already available on the market, there is a relative less focusing on the reliable recording conditions. Commercial BD-R media were recorded at various recording speeds with the maximum speed of 6X, and tested at the acceleration aging conditions. Through the evaluation of long-term storage features by the data stability test, lower recording speed of 2x resulted in better long-term storage stability. In addition, degradation aspects of unstable long-term storage feature at outer region of disk were discussed.
