Purpose - The major aim of this article is to advance understanding of the relationship between market orientation and speed-to-market. Specifically, this study examines the different impacts of component of market orientation on commitment to R&D and speed-to-market and explores whether market uncertainty plays a role of moderating in speed-to-market for market-oriented firms. Research design, data, and methodology - This study collected a survey data from Korean exporting firms. The Final sample size was 196. The measure of market orientation was conceptualized with second order constructs. All items were measured on five-point scale. To confirm hypotheses, this study conducted a hierarchical regression. Results - As sub-constructs of market orientation, customer orientation, competitor orientation and interfunctional coordination foster speed-to-market, and the relationship between only customer orientation and speed-to-market might be weakened when the extent of market uncertainty is high. Conclusions - This study confirmed the relationship between market orientation and speed-to-market, with three components of market orientation respectively, and whether market uncertainty plays a role of moderating which weaken the link between market orientation and speed-to-market. It could be useful to take a component approach to the market orientation construct, because the roles of different market orientation components might vary, contingent on uncertainty in the environment.

The technology of high-speed electrical machines is particularly relevant to applications involving electrical power generation and high-speed motors with high power density and high efficiency. Due to the development of improved materials for electrical machines, power electronic elements and design technology, the high-speed electrical machines are being rapidly introduced into industrial applications. The introduction of high-speed electrical machines has created a new market for electrical machines and will, as an application, contribute to the development of modern electrical machines. This paper deals with applications and market trends and KERI's activities in high-speed electrical machines.

The railway industry of each country has variant technical standards and regulations unlike other industries. For this reason, it is necessary to investigate the domestic technical standards and regulations and to prepare the countermeasure of the variance for advancing the korean high-speed railroad system into foreign market. This study was designed to investigate the railway design/manufacturing, examination/inspection and safety of domestic and foreign countries subject to a world market for advancing the korean high-speed railroad system into a foreign market. Because the reliance of a railroad system is a prerequisite for the safety of railroads, it is very important to obtain the reliance data, which is based on the RMS analysis of foreign countries subject to a world market.

Studied was a strategic plan for the Korean High-Speed Train system to penetrate the Chinese railway market in exchange of the technology of KHST. Firstly, taken was a glance at Chinese Government plans to extend total length of his railway lines and to construct the Beijing~Shanghai high-speed railway line. Then, disparity of railway technology in Korea and China was reviewed. From the review, SWOT Analysis were carried out to penetrate the foreign markets. Countermeasures to cope with SWOT were also considered. Strategical governmental supports and the establishment of the special organization to be in charge of penetration of KHST into foreign markets were proposed. Finally, also proposed was the transfer of KHST technology to Chinese counterparts in exchange of tangible benefits for Korean side. The benefits may include (1) adoption of KHST as the type of rolling stock for the Beijing~Shanghai line, (2) guarantee of participation in the project and royalty for the KHST technology used for the future high-speed railway line construction, (3) prior written approval and partnership when making its way to third country, and (4) participation of Korean construction companies in Chinese railway construction project, etc. Adoption of KHST in China indeed gives chance to integrate the high-speed railway network after reunification of Korean peninsular, and enhance the economic ties between two countries.

High-speed railway is important transportation in the world because it is very comfortable, environmental benefits, energy savings, etc. The increase of demand for high-speed railway influence to develop of new hish-speed trains. Many countries introduced new high-speed train in the market. It meets to the market's needs. They adopt new technology and systems like that active suspension, synchronous permanent magnetic motor, distributed drive system, aero acoustics, etc. In Korea, the project for R&D of new high-speed train is launched last year. We need analysis of technical trend of new high-speed trains in the world. This paper presents a overview of technical trend of new high speed trains and what is key issues in development of high-speed train. It is very useful to develop a next generation high-speed train in Korea.

Following the success of the KTX (Korea's first high-speed rail system) with a maximum operating speed of 300 km/h opened in 2004, experts in Korea started a research on the development of key technologies for high-speed rail (HSR) with a top speed of 500 km/h. This paper is a preliminary analysis of the research. It first reviews HSR experiences around the world, in terms of traffic and economic impacts of HSR, and presents a preliminary analysis of 500 km/h HSR in Korea. It is estimated that introduction of 500 km/h HSR with a 54% of travel time reduction will increase HSR passengers to about 9.8 million (about 78% of market share) between Seoul and Busan. It is a 23% of growth compared to the base scenario. Along with conventional rail passengers, air passengers are expected to be significantly impacted by the 500 km/h HSR. As a function of HSR travel time, the estimated market shares of both KTX and 500 km/h HSR compared to air are very comparable with previous international experiences. Based on the forecasted traffic, estimated total benefits are $758 million per year.

본 연구의 목적은 제조기업에서 시장지향성과 신제품성과간의 관계에서 어떤 변수들이 매개적 영향관계를 미치는지 규명해 보는 것이다. 이러한 연구목적을 달성하기 위해 선행문헌에 관한 종합적인 고찰 결과를 토대로 국내제조기업의 시장지향성과 신제품성과를 매개하는 제품품질, 직원만족, 혁신속도 등의 세 가지 요인을 도출하였고, 이들 간의 순환적인 관계에 대한 구조분석을 위해 연구모형과 가설을 수립하였다. 국내 100개 식품 및 제약기업(사업부)으로부터 수집된 자료 159부를 바탕으로 Amos12.0K에 의해 구조모델을 분석하였다. 분석결과는 다음과 같이 요약된다. 첫째, 시장지향성 강화를 통하여 제품품질, 직원만족, 혁신속도가 높아지는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 직원만족, 혁신속도가 높아질수록 신제품성과가 높아지는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 직원만족이 높으면 제품품질과 혁신속도가 높아지는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 연구결과를 통해 향후 제조기업들은 시장지향성을 더욱 강조하고 이와 관련된 제품품질, 직원만족, 혁신속도의 매개변수들의 작용을 이해함으로써 더 높은 신제품성과를 얻을 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

본 연구는 기업이 지식을 창출하고 혁신에 이르기 위해 노력하는 방안으로써 외부지식탐색을 제시하고 외부지식탐색의 폭과 깊이를 중심으로 혁신속도와의 관계를 살펴보았다. 국내시장에서 기업이 외부지식탐색이 가지는 루틴의 한계를 극복하기 위한 노력의 일환으로 해외시장으로 진출하고자 하는 노력을 조절효과로 살펴보았다. 기존연구에서는 외부지식탐색이 대부분 단일국가 혹은 유사 산업 간에서 나타나는 여러 가지 효과를 살펴보았다면, 본 연구는 이를 조금 더 확장하여 시장확대 개념을 도입해 그 상호작용을 실증한 것이다. 본 연구에서 사용된 818개의 유효 표본은 STEPI에서 발간하는 혁신조사를 기반으로 하였으며, 실증결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 외부지식탐색의 폭과 깊이는 혁신속도에 긍정적인 영향을 미친다. 둘째, 시장확대효과로써 수출성과는 외부지식탐색의 폭 및 깊이와 함께 상호작용하여 혁신속도에 조절효과를 가진다. 셋째, 젊은 기업일수록 다양한 네트워크를 선호하면서 수출증대효과와 상호작용하며 나이가 많은 기업일수록 심도있는 네트워크를 선호하면서 수출증대와 상호작용하여 혁신속도를 증가시킨다.

"Getting to market first" is extremely critical in this competitive business environment. The speed at which products are developed and released to market is tightly linked to profitability and market share. Many companies that have been very skeptical of Rapid Tooling (RT) technologies developed so far are working on Hybrid Tooling (HT) that can really meet the market standards. This paper describes the experimentation how HT process has been being successfully established and effectively applied with typical case study. Through the experimentation, Ceramic-filled HT was found to be aptly suited for the low grade mold, both in terms of the lead time, dimensional accuracy, and tooling cost.
