고속 공기압 실린더의 피스톤 실 단면형상 변화에 따른 마찰특성 (The Friction Characteristics with Variation of Cross Section of Piston Seals for High Speed Pneumatic Cylinders)

  • The paper deals with the design of a new low-friction seal for a pneumatic cylinder with high speed actuation. The seal performance with variation of the cross sections in piston seals with elastomeric material was investigated to minimize the friction forces using ABAQUS. The contact stress and strain distributions and frictional forces of the piston seals were investigated with variation of interference fits, supply pressures and friction coefficients. To develop adequate and productive procedures, the finite element models of the piston seals were created and nonlinear analysis of a seal design was conducted in order to build further knowledge and understanding of the seal's performance characteristics.

  • As a first step for aerodynamic analysis of vertical axis wind turbine, dynamic stall characteristics of airfoil was investigated. Dynamic stall of wind turbine airfoil is caused by severe variation of angle of attack and relative velocity of flow around airfoil. Angle of attack and relative velocity can be expressed with tip speed ratio. Variation of angle of attack is strongly dependent on the tip speed ratio. For tip speed ratio, 1.4 and free stream velocity, 15m/s, dynamic stall characteristics of wind turbine airfoil is compared with those of oscillating airfoil having same angle of attack variation.

Fault Diagnosis of Roll Shape Under the Speed Variation in Hot Rolling Mill

  • The metal processing system usually consists of various components such like motors, work rolls, backup rolls, idle rolls, sensors, etc. Even a simple fault in a single component in the system may cause a serious damage on the final product. It is therefore necessary to diagnose the faults of the components to detect and prevent system failure. Especially, the defects in a work roll are critical to the quality of strip. It is especially difficult to detect faults of a roll by using the existing frequency analysis method if the speed of the roll is changing. In this study, a new diagnosis method for roll eccentricity under the roll speed changes was developed. The new method was induced from analyzing the rolling mechanism by using rolling force models, radius-speed relationship, and measured rolling force, etc. Simulation results by using the field data show that the proposed method is very useful.

  • MRAS observer, which is based on adaptive control theory, estimates speed and position by using optimal observer gains on the basis of Lyapunov stability theory. However, in case of MRAS theory, position estimation error is in existence because of non-linearity for inductance variation and limit cycles for position estimation. The adaptive sliding observer based on the variable structure control theory estimates the speed and position for zero of estimation error by using the sliding surface equal to the error between speed and position estimation. The binary observer estimates the rotor speed and rotor flux with alleviation of the high-frequency chattering, and retains the benefits achieved in the conventional sliding observer, such as robustness to parameter and disturbance variations. The speed and position sensorless control of SRM under the load and inductance variation is verified by the experimental results.

56년간 한반도 강수 및 풍속의 극값 변화 (The Variation of Extreme Values in the Precipitation and Wind Speed During 56 Years in Korea)

  • This study investigates a long-term variation of the annual extreme value for the instantaneous wind speed and the daily precipitation during 56 years (1951-2006) in Korea. Results show that there is a uptrend for both wind and precipitation extreme records, although regional trends are different from overall pattern in some places, particularly for wind speed. The estimated linear trends are 230 mm/56 yr in the daily precipitation and $15ms^{-1}$/56 yr in the maximum instantaneous wind speed. For precipitation, other indexes such as total annual precipitation, the number of extreme precipitation event, and precipitation intensity have dramatically increased as well, while there has been a clear downtrend for the number of strong wind events (> $14ms^{-1}$). It is found that the minimum surface pressure recorded during typhoon attacks in Korea tends to be decreasing, about 10 hPa/56 yr. This partly explains why the extreme values in the precipitation are increasing in Korea.

외란관측기를 갖는 SMC에 의한 DC모터의 강인한 속도제어 (Robust speed control for DC motor based on sliding mode with a disturbance observer)

  • This paper deals with the disturbance observer (DOB) based sliding mode control (SMC) for a DC motor to control motor rotating speed precisely and to ensure strong robustness against disturbance including load torque and parameter variation. The reason of steady state error in speed on conventional SMC without DOB is analyzed in detail. Especially, the suggested DOB is designed to prevent measuring noise and harmonics caused by derivative operation on rotating speed. The control performance of the DOB based SMC is evaluated by the various simulations. The simulation results showed that the DOB based SMC had more robust performance than the SMC system without DOB. Especially, precise speed control was possible even though motor parameter variation and load torque was added to the system.

가변속 열펌프의 냉매 유량제어에 의한 난방성능 변화에 관한 실험적 연구 (An Experimental Investigation on the Variation of Heating Performance Due to the Refrigerant Flow Control in a Variable-Speed Heat Pump)

  • An experimental study was conducted to investigated the effect of refrigerant flow control on the performance of a variable-speed heat pump operating in both cooling and heating mode. For this purpose, cooling and heating capacity, EER and refrigerant mass flow rate corresponding to an electronic valve as well as a capillary tube were measured as functions of compressor speed, length of capillary tube (or valve opening of the electronic valve), refrigerant charge, and outdoor temperature. From the comparison of experimental results, it was found that the performance variation due to the electronic valve opening became significant as the operating conditions(outdoor temperature and compressor speed) deviated from the standard condition at which heating capacity and EER were rated for the indicated capillary tube.

LDV를 이용한 토크컨버터 내 유동의 실험적 분석 (Experimental Analyses of Flow in a Production Torque Converter Using LDV)

  • LDV(laser Doppler velocimetry) measurements were conducted on the exit region of the impeller passage and the gap between the impeller and turbine blades under 0.8 speed ratio. The 0.8 speed ratio has an impeller speed of 2000rpm and a turbine speed of 1600rpm. A periodic variation of the mass flow rate is present in many of the measurements made. The frequency of this variation is the same as the frequency of the turbine blades passing the impeller passage exit. It is found that the instantaneous position of the turbine had effect on fluid flow inside the impeller passage and gap region. This study would aid in the construction of higher accuracy CFD models of this complex turbomachinery device.

강우 강도에 따른 일반국도 지방부 도로의 평균속도 변화 분석 (Analysis of Provincial road in National Highway Average Speed Variation According to Rainfall Intensity)

  • 기상조건이 교통 상황에 미치는 영향은 이미 알려진 사실이나 관련 연구는 부족한 실정이다. 이에 본 연구에서는 일반국도 지방부 도로에서 강우 수준에 따른 속도 변화를 분석하였다. 분석결과 강우 시 평균속도는 3.2% 감소하였고 교통량이 방향별로 200대/시 이하인 경우 최대 8.8% 감소하는 것으로 분석되었다. 이는 지방부 도로의 경우 자유 교통류 상황에서의 속도가 상대적으로 크게 감소했기 때문으로 판단된다. 또한 속도-교통량 그래프를 활용하여 강우 시 속도 감소 모형을 추정하고 통계 검증을 수행하였다. 추정된 모형은 강우 수준이 높을수록 기울기가 완만해졌으며, 이는 자유 교통류 상황에서의 속도가 상대적으로 크게 감소한 결과이다.

Investigations on coefficient of variation of extreme wind speed

  • The uncertainty of extreme wind speeds is one key contributor to the uncertainty of wind loads and their effects on structures. The probability distribution of annual extreme wind speeds may be characterized using a classical Gumbel Type distribution. The expression that establishes the relationship between the extreme wind speeds at different recurrence periods and the corresponding coefficients of variation is formulated, and its efficacy is validated. The coefficients of variation are calibrated to be about 0.125 and 0.184 according to defined Chinese and US design specifications, respectively. Based on the wind data of 54 cities in China, 49 meteorological stations in the US, 3 stations in Singapore, the coefficients span intervals of (0.1, 0.35), (0.08, 0.20) and (0.06, 0.14), respectively. For hurricanes in the US, the coefficients range approximately from 0.3 to 0.4. This convenient technique is recommended as one alternative tool for coefficient of variation analyses in the future revisions of related codes. The sensitivities of coefficients of variation for 49 meteorological stations in the US are quantified and demonstrated. Some contradictions and incompatibilities can be clearly detected and illustrated by comparing the coefficients of variation obtained with different combinations of recurrence period wind data.
