In this paper, the sliding mode variable structure-fuzzy(SMVS-F) control algorithm is applied to speed controller for field oriented induction motor drive system. According to the principle of sliding mode variable structure-fuzzy adjustable speed control scheme, the proposed algorithm shows good performances which are reducing chattering, robustness against parameter variation in induction motor drive. The validity of the proposed control scheme is verified by computer simulation using SIMULINK.

Conventional robot manipulators actuated by motors with the speed reducer such as the harmonic drive have weakness in the load capacity, since the speed reducer does not have enough strength. To improve this, a new type of robot actuator based on the four-bar-link mechanism driven by the ball screw was constructed. Also, a new type of revolute robot manipulator composed of the developed actuators was developed. But, modelling errors occur due to the off-set from the nominal model since the exact modeling of the complex inertia variation of the four-bar-link actuator is very difficult. To control the proposed robot along the prescribed trajectory, a sliding mode control algorithm was applied with compensation function for the modeling errors. To show performance of the proposed controller, a computer simulation was performed, and its results was presented.
This paper presents a new speed and position sensorless control method of permanent magnet synchronous motors based on the sliding mode observer. The sliding mode observer structure and its design method are described. Also, Lyapunov functions are chosen for determining the adaptive law for the speed and the stator resistance estimator. The effectiveness of the proposed observer is confirmed by the experimental results.
Small size DC motor control method for portable drug delivery system has been developed to be used for the actuator of insulins pump. The control method gives the controllabilities both in high speed(40-50 revolution per second(rps)) DC motor drive and also in low speed(0.5-1rps). In low speed mode DC motor is controlled to act like stepping motor and in high speed to optimize power consumption. To control both mode modified bang bang control is suggested. Using this method small size DC motor(spec.) speed is controlled from 0.2 rps to 50 rps. Experimental setup is developed using micro-processor(PIC16C73, Micro Chips co., USA), motor turns checking circuitry, small size DC motor for pager(SM1012, Samhong co., Korea) and gear box. Results from experiment meet need for vailable load condition which is require for portable drug delivery system.
Pitch control of wind turbine is activated above rated wind speed for the purpose of rated power regulation. When we design pitch controller, its gain-scheduling is essential due to nonlinear characteristics of aerodynamic torque. In this study, 2-mass model including a vibration mode of drive-train for a 2 MW wind turbine is considered and pitch control with gain-scheduling using a linearization analysis of the nonlinear aerodynamic torque is applied. Some simulation results for the pitch gain-scheduling under step wind speed are presented and investigated. It is shown that gain-scheduling in pitch control is important especially in the region of high wind speeds when there exists a vibration mode of drive-train.
In order to improve the combustion efficiency of the agricultural engine, an ignition timing control system was developed and tested. The control system was composed of the CDI ignition circuit, the microcomputer and the interfacing devices. In this study, the simplicity of the control system and the flexibility of the control strategy were emphasized for the precision, the applicability and the economical efficiency. The hardware was consisted in almost the same compositions as those of the automobile engine. The softwares of the control algorithms were developed to three types depending on the combination of the quasi-adaptive control and the open loop control which had the different spark advance equations according to the input variables such as engine speed, exhaust gas temperature and brake torque. The test results were summarized as follows: 1. By using the computer control system, the fuel consumption efficiency could be improved and the fuel consumption could be reduced by 0 to 57% compared to that of the fixed spark advance system. 2. The fuel consumption of the control mode with the quasi-adaptive algorithm was reduced by average 0.8% compared to that of the control mode without quasi-adaptive algorithm. 3. It was found that the control mode with the quasi-adaptive algorithm adopting single input of engine speed had most applicability and economical efficiency among three types of the control algorithms.

A nonlinear adaptive speed observer is designed for the sensorless control of induction motors. In order to design the speed observer, the measurements of the stator currents and the estimates of the rotor fluxes are used. The sliding mode cascade observer is designed to estimate the time derivatives of the stator currents. The open-loop observer is designed to estimate the rotor fluxes and its time derivatives using the stator current derivatives. The adaptive observer is also designed to estimate the rotor resistance. Sequentially, the rotor speed is calculated using these estimated values. It is shown that the estimation errors of the corresponding states and the parameters converge to the specified residual set. It is also shown that the speed controller using these estimates is performed well. The simulation examples are represented to investigate the validity of the proposed observers for the sensorless control of induction motors.
The position control accuracy of the robot arm is decreased significantly when a long arm robot is operated at high speed. In this case, the robot arm must be modeled as a flexible structure, not a rigid one, and its control system will be necessarily designed with its elastic modes taken into account. In this paper, the vibration control of a one-link flexible robot arm is presented. The robot system consists of a flexible arm manufactured with thin aluminium plate, AC servomotor with a harmonic drive for speed reduction, optical encoder and accelerometer. The system is modeled with limited number of elastic modes, and its parameters are determined from the results of the experiments. The implemented control schemes are LQ control and sliding mode control. The experiments and digital simulations are carried out to test the validity of the system modeling, controller design, and active control implementation.
This paper presents a new speed and position sensorless of Switched Reluctance Motor(SRM) based on the sliding mode observer. The sliding mode observer structure and its design method are discussed. Also, Lyapunov functions are chosen for determining the speed and the stator resistance estimator. The effectiveness of the proposed observer system is confirmed by the computer simulation.

Due to the active progress in space programs for various types of ground and space missions, the high agile spacecraft maneuverability is also required. To meet the requirement of the given space missions, the Control Moment Gyros (CMG) for the alternatives of the classical reaction wheels can release the attitude maneuverability restrictions. In addition, the angular rates of the spacecraft is constrained due to the limited actuator characteristics. In this paper, a sliding mode control technique for the attitude control of the spacecraft equipped with the pyramid type of CSCMG(Constant Speed CMG) is designed, and the stability of the control system is guaranteed by using the Lyapunov stability theory. Finally, the control law proposed is analyized by numertical simulations.
