  • When DC voltages from 5 V up to 90 V are applied to a transmitter chip excited by an ultrafast lacer beam, the terahertz electromagnetic pulses and their spectra are changed. The spectrum shifts to the high frequency range when the high DC voltage is applied to the chip. At that time, the signal-to-noise ratio is increased from 250: 1 to 10,000: 1. The spectrum can expand up to 4 THz by optimal realignment of the THz system. Also, two terahertz electromagnetic pulses are generated from a receiver chip when the laser detection beam is reflected to the back side of the chip.

  • In this paper, we investigate interference between short-range radiocommunication devices(SRDs) with frequency hopping spread spectrum(FHSS) and direct sequence spread spectrum(DSSS) methods when they are in the same frequency bands. In order to analyze interference from unwanted emission of SRD with DSSS to that of FHSS, Monte-carlo(MC) simulation method is employed and interference probabilities are calculated. We simulate interference scenarios in accordance with several duty cycles and bandwidths. It is also assumed that the propagation model is free space. The effect of distance between interfering transmitter and victim receiver is analyzed and bit error rate(BER) is simulated. From the interference analysis results, it is shown that duty cycle affects compatibility more than band-width does. Also, we can make sure of the separation distance which satisfies BER criterion when there are only one interfering transmitter and multiple interfering transmitters.

  • The transmitter of quadrature multiplexed GMSK (QM-GMSK) is composed of two quadrature multiplexed GMSK modulators. QM-GMSK has a slightly increased spectrum main lobe compared with $Q^2PSK$ or QMSK, but it has highly suppressed side lobes. As a result, practical spectrum efficiency of QM-GMSK is achieved. By replacing the baseband elementary pulses of QM-GMSK with their approximate, the squared sinusoid of half-period, offset-$Q^2PSK$($OQ^2PSK$) is obtained. The $OQ^2PSK$ signal has similar spectral properties to QM-GMSK. The transmitter of $OQ^2PSK$ can be simply implemented without the Gaussian lowpass filter, which is required in QM-GMSK transmitter. In this paper, we propose an overlapped pulse shaping in $OQ^2PSK$ with RC(raised-cosine) or SRC(squared raised-cosine) pulses of length longer than the symbol period. Power spectrum of the proposed modulation scheme exhibits further suppressed side lobes, hence enhanced spectrum efficiency is obtained. Simulation results indicate that BER performance of the proposed scheme is comparable to that of $OQ^2PSK$.

  • This paper focuses on codebook-based precoding for space-division multiple access/orthogonal frequency-division multiple access (SDMA-OFDMA) systems aiming to guarantee high throughput for their users as well as to mitigate interference to fixed satellite service (FSS). A systematic design of SDMA codebook for subband-based OFDMA is proposed, which forms multiple orthogonal beams with common spatial null in the direction of a victim FSS earth station (ES). The design enables both transmitter and receiver to independently construct identical codebook by sharing only on the direction angle of an FSS ES, which takes fewer overhead bits than Gram-Schmidt process, a general method satisfying our design criterion. A system-level throughput evaluation shows that the proposed precoding provides superior performance over existing spectrum sharing method, that is, subband deactivation. The spectrum sharing analysis shows that the proposed precoding, even with an estimation error of the direction angles of an FSS ES, causes lower interference than existing precoding, knockdown precoding.

  • In conducting indoor positioning by code division multiple access using spread spectrum ultrasonic waves, it is required to detect signals under the influence of near-far problem occurred by difference on signal power, caused by distance between transmitter and receiver. For discussing robustness to the problem, we verified measuring accuracy on distance from an experiment on a real space with a hardware device where our proposed method is mounted. The proposed method performs automatic signal detection by setting threshold level dynamically. As an experimental result, measurable distance were improved by the proposed method, and measurement errors were up to 50mm in distances from 1000mm to 6000mm; therefore, enough accuracy to realize self-localization or navigation for autonomous mobile robot or human was obtained.

  • In this paper, we propose a sum transmission rate maximization based cooperative spectrum sharing protocol with quality-of-service (QoS) support for both of the primary and secondary systems, which exploits the situation when the primary system experiences a weak channel. The secondary transmitter STb which provides the best performance for the primary and secondary systems is selected to forward the primary signal. Specifically, STb helps the primary system achieve the target rate by using a fraction of its power to forward the primary signal. As a reward, it can gain spectrum access by using the remaining power to transmit its own signal. We study the secondary user selection and optimal power allocation such that the sum transmission rate of primary and secondary systems is maximized, while the QoS of both primary and secondary systems can be guaranteed. Simulation results demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed spectrum sharing protocol and its benefit to both primary and secondary systems.

  • This paper proposes a systematic design for a precoding codebook for a transmit-ing space-division multiple access (TN-SDMA) sharing spectrum with existing fixed wireless service (FWS). Based on an estimated direction angle of a victim FWS system, an interfering transmitter adaptively constructs a codebook, forming a transmit in the direction angle, while satisfying orthogonal beamforming constraints. Sum throughput results indicate that the throughput loss of TN-SDMA relative to a practical SDMA, called per user unitary and rate control ($PU^2RC$), is lower at larger number of transmission antennas, lower signal-to-noise ratio, or a smaller number of users. In particular, a small loss (12% throughput loss) is provided for practical system parameters. Spectrum sharing results confirm that TNSDMA efficiently shares spectrum with FWS systems by reducing protection distance to more than 66 %. Although a TN-SDMA system always has lower throughput compared to $PU^2RC$ in non-coexistence scenarios; it offers an intriguing opportunity to re-use a spectrum already allocated to an FWS.

  • This work proposes suitable network configurations for single frequency networks (SFNs) with ATSC 1.0 based on network coverage calculations and the laboratory multipath handling performance of commercial receivers. SFNs are widely used for delivering terrestrial digital television services because of their efficient use of the spectrum. In Mexico the analogue television transmissions switch-off occurred on 31 December 2016. Thus it is expected the adopted ATSC 1.0 system will be in force for the next several years despite the recent standardization of the ATSC 3.0 system. As ATSC 1.0 uses 8-VSB modulation the multipath handling capability of receivers is critical for the design of SFNs. The presented network planning results help develop technical normativity for implementing SFNs in Mexico and other countries that use ATSC 1.0. SFNs with transmitter separation up to 130 km are fully covered for outdoor reception mainly due to the directivity of the receiving antenna. Moreover for indoor reception at least 70% of an SFN coverage area can be achieved with a transmitter separation of up to 60 km depending on the radiated power and the transmitter antenna height.

  • This article considers a model of cooperative spectrum sharing between primary and secondary systems in which transmission occurs in two phases. In this scheme, we introduce that a single secondary transmitter, ST, employs a quadrature-phase-based signal to present the secondary message, while the primary message is presented by an in-phase-based signal. This allows simultaneous spectrum sharing without mutual interference. Therefore, an interference constraint is not necessary to protect primary operating performance from being degraded by the secondary user operations. Theoretical analysis and Simulations are then provided to confirm the superiority of the proposed scheme over the the current conventional methods.
