  • EEG signal is analyzed by two methods, analysis by visual inspection of EEG recording sheets and analysis by quantative method. Generally visual inspection method is used in the clinical field. But this method has its limitation because EEG signal is random signal. Therefore it is necessary to analyze EEG signals quantatively to obtain more precise and objective information of neural and brain. In this paper, power spectrum of EEG signal was estimated by AR(AutoRegressive) model in the frequency domain. This process is useful as a preprocessing stage for tomographic brain mapping (TBM) at each frequency, band. As a method for estimating power spectral density of EEG signals, periodogram method, autocorrelation method. covariance method, modified covariance method, and Burg method are tested in this paper.

  • Standard methods estimating the power spectral density(PSD) from an irregularly sampled cardiac event series require deriving a new evenly-spaced signal applicable to those methods. To avoid that requirement, in this study, the power spectrum of heart rate variability was estimated by Lomb-Scargle's algorithm, which is a means of obtaining PSD estimates directly from irregularly sampled timeseries observed in astronomy. To assess the performance of Lomb-Scargle algorithm in the power spectral analysis of heart rate variability, it was applied to various cardiac event series derived through integral pulse frequency modulation model(IPFM) simulation and from real ECG signals, and the resultant power spectra was compared with those obtained by a conventional method based on the FFT. In result, it is concluded that Lomb-Scargle's periodogram is very effective in the power spectral analysis of heart rate variability, especially in the presence of arrhythmia and/or dropouts of cardiac events.

  • In general, the load which acts on the structure is almost independent of time in many locations. In this case. It is difficult to estimate the life with the service load history, because the structure is on the multi- axial and multi-point loading states. In this study, the service load of the excavator which is widely used in industry field was calculated using measured cylinder pressures and displacements. The fatigue life was estimated using the multi-axial and multi-point load counting method. Service load history of 4 pin joint which act independently each other is yielded by mult-axial and multi-point load counting method. The stress spectrum is yielded by superposition of the results of FEM stress analysis applied unit load. Palm- gren-Miner's cumulative Damage is 0.000804 for Von Mises equivalent stress sequence by one side fillet weld S-N curve. This result agress with Bench test results. As a result of this study, the fatigue life esti- mation using the multi-axial and multi-axial and multi-point load counting method is useful.

  • Cancer therapy using high-energy $^{12}$ C ions is successfully under way at HIMAC, Japan. An alternative beam to $^{12}$ C is $^{11}$ C ions. The merit of $^{11}$ C over $^{12}$ C is its capability for monitoring spatial distribution of the irradiated $^{11}$ C by observing the $\beta$$^{+}$ decay with a good position resolution. One of the several problems to be solved before its use for therapy is the amount of nuclear interaction that deteriorates the dose concentration owing to the Bragg curve. Utilizing the dedicated secondary beam course for R&D studies at HIMAC, we measured the total energy loss of $^{11}$ C ions in a scintillator block that simulates the soft tissue in human bodies. In addition to the total absorption $^{11}$ C peak, non-negligible bump-shaped contribution is observed in the energy spectrum. The origin of the bump contribution can be nuclear interaction of the incident $^{11}$ C ions with hydrogen and carbon atoms. Further studies to reduce the ambiguity in dose distribution are mentioned.

  • In this paper, Thermally Stimulated Current(TSC) spectrum has been measured in oriented polypropylene of thickness of $40{\mu}m$ which was irradiated by Ultraviolet Ray. As a result of the investigation, four peaks have been observed-two peaks ($A_1$, $A_2$) were appeared in low temperature region($-20{\sim}20^{\circ}C$) and other two peaks ($B_1$, $B_2$) in high temperature region($80{\sim}120^{\circ}C$). Among four peaks $A_1$ and $A_2$ have bee observed in detail. These peaks are shown to be created due to the polarization of diploes from the experimental results which were measured as a function forming voltage, forming time, collecting voltage and heating rate. As the increase of irradiated-time by Ultraviolet ray, the number of dipoles was increased.

  • Digital microwave wideband receiver including linear amplifier, analog-to-digital converter(ADC) and digital signal processor is able to analyze its performance using sensitivity and dynamic range of system. Determination of gain, third-order intermodulation products and ADC characteristics and design criteria for the linear amplifier chain is essential problem for sensitive and dynamic range. Also, if there are two signals with frequencies very close, digital signal processor must be able to separate the two signals. In this paper, we measured dynamic range as gain was changed and determined gain value for the proper sensitivity and dynamic range and high resolution spectrum estimation was used to separate two close signals.

  • As a generalized form of the conventional Fourier transform, fractional Fourier transform (FrFT) can analyze a signal at intermediate domain between time and frequency domains with a transform order ${\alpha}$. Especially, FrFT has a number of advantages in the analysis of LFM (Linear Frequency Modulation) signals due to its robustness to noise. In this paper, we have proposed a new method to detect and estimate the distance of the target from the FrFT spectrum of the received echo signal. Experimental results have validated the proposed method, and shown that reliable target distance could be estimated in noise and reverberation environments.

  • This study was performed to develop accelerated life test method of machanical parts using cumulative damage theory that used to model the fatigue of parts that receive variable load. The cumulative damage theory was introduced, and the estimation of life and calculation of accelerated life test time was illustrated. As the actual application example, accelerated life test method of agricultural tractor transmission was described. Life distribution of agricultural tractor transmission was supposed to follow Weibull distribution and life test time was calculated under the conditions of average life (MTBF) 3,000 hours and 90% reliability for one test sample. According to the cumulative damage theory, because test time can shorten in case increase test load, test time could be reduced by 482 hours when we put the load 1.1 times of rated load than 0.73 times of rated load that is equivalent load calculated by load spectrum of the agricultural tractor. This time, acceleration coefficient was 11.7. This accelerated test method was used to develop accelerated test method of gear reducer, hydraulic hose and bearing as well as agricultural tractor transmission and it is considered to be applied comprehensively to machanical parts the fatigue of which is happened by load or pressure etc.

  • Battery diagnosis is vital to battery-based applications because it ensures system reliability by avoiding battery failure. This paper presents a novel intelligent battery charger with an online diagnosis function to circumvent interruptions in system operation. The charger operates in normal charging and diagnosing modes. The diagnosis function is performed with the impedance spectroscopy technique, which is achieved by injecting a sinusoidal voltage excitation signal to the battery terminals without the need for additional hardware. The impedance spectrum of the battery is calculated based on voltage excitation and current response with the aid of an embedded digital lock in amplifier in a digital signal processor. The measured impedance data are utilized in the application of the complex nonlinear least squares method to extract the battery parameters of the equivalent circuit. These parameters are then compared with the reference values to reach a diagnosis. A prototype of the proposed charger is applied to four valve-regulated lead-acid batteries to measure AC impedance. The results are discussed.

  • The conventional methods used to evaluate battery state-of-charge (SOC) cannot accommodate the chemistry nonlinearities, measurement inaccuracies and parameter perturbations involved in estimation systems. In this paper, an impedance-based equivalent circuit model has been constructed with respect to a LiFePO4 battery by approximating the electrochemical impedance spectrum (EIS) with RC circuits. The efficiencies of approximating the EIS with RC networks in different series-parallel forms are first discussed. Additionally, the typical hysteresis characteristic is modeled through an empirical approach. Subsequently, a methodology incorporating an H-infinity observer designated for open-circuit voltage (OCV) observation and a hysteresis model developed for OCV-SOC mapping is proposed. Thereafter, evaluation experiments under FUDS and UDDS test cycles are undertaken with varying temperatures and different current-sense bias. Experimental comparisons, in comparison with the EKF based method, indicate that the proposed SOC estimator is more effective and robust. Moreover, test results on a group of Li-ion batteries, from different manufacturers and of different chemistries, show that the proposed method has high generalization capability for all the three types of Li-ion batteries.
