  • A dynamic analysis procedure is developed to provide a comprehensive estimation of the dynamic response spectrum for locomotive's wheels running over a Pre-Stressed Concrete (PSC) box girder bridge on the Korea high speed railway. The wheel force spectrum with the bridge behavior are analyzed as the dynamic procedure for various running speeds (50~450km/h). The high-speed railway locomotive (KTX) is used as 38-degree of freedom system. Three displacements(vertical, lateral, and longitudinal) and three rotational components (pitching, rolling, and yawing). For one car-body and two bogies as well as five movements except pitching rotation components for four wheel axes forces are considered in the 38-degree of freedom model. Three dimensional frame element is used to model of the PSC box girder bridges, simply supported span length of 40m. The irregulation of rail-way is derived using the exponential spectrum density function under assumption of twelve level tracks conditions based on the normal probability procedure. The dynamic responses of bridge passing through the railway locomotive with high-speed analyzed by Newmark-${\beta}$ method and Runge-Kutta method are compared and contrasted considering the developed models of bridge, track and locomotive comprehensively. The dynamic analyses of wheel forces by Runge-Kutta method which are able to analyze the forces with high frequency running on the bridge and ground rail-way are conducted. Additionally, wheel forces spectrum and three rotational components of vehicle body for three typical running speeds is also presented.

  • In this paper, we propose a method in which the negative acknowledge (NACK) message is used as command for cooperation and spectrum sharing. This allows for an automatic request for cooperation and sharing when the direct link of the primary user is in outage, and also allows for saving the number of control messages in cooperation-spectrum sharing based paradigm. In the sharing phase, the selected relay shares a power fraction of $1-{\alpha}$ for secondary transmitted signal while the remaining of ${\alpha}$ is for primary retransmitted signal. In the case of no relay collected, primary transmitter uses NACK as a command to retransmit the signal with fully power fraction (${\alpha}=1$). Both systems are assumed to employ BPSK signals. In this scheme, we propose the joint optimal decoding in the secondary user. The frame error rate (FER) performance at both systems is then analyzed. The theoretical and simulation results validate the analysis and confirm the efficiency of the protocol.

  • The primary objective of this study is to characterize traffic axle loadings that consider Korea specific traffic conditions for developing mechanistic-based pavement design method as a part of Korea Pavement Research Program(KPRP). Although the concept of equivalent single axle load(ESAL) has been generally used since the 1960s for the pavement design, the mechanistic-based pavement design procedure requires more accurate axle loading data on the specific pavement. In this study, axle loading data were collected according to vehicle type and highway functional classification. Axle-load spectrum was then standardized by cumulative density function(cdf), because the axle load spectrum could vary from the observed site, truck traffic volume, and truck type, Finally, this study presented the procedure and S-shaped exponential models for characterizing axle load spectra according to vehicle type and highway functional classification.

  • The uniform hazard spectra for seven major cities in Korea, Seoul, Daejeon, Daegu, Busan, Gwangju, Ulsan, and Inchon are suggested. Probabilistic seismic hazard analyses were performed using the attenuation equations derived from seismology research in Korea since 2000 and the seismotectonic models selected by expert assessment. For the estimation of the uniform hazard spectra, the seismic hazard curves for several frequencies and PGAs were calculated by using the spectral attenuation equations. The seismic hazards (annual exceedance probability) calculated for the 7 metropolises ranged from about $1.4305{\times}0^{-4}/yr$ to $1.7523{\times}10^{-4}/yr$ and averaged out at about $1.5902{\times}10^{-4}/yr$ with a log standard deviation of about 0.085 at 0.2 g. The uniform hazard spectra with recurrence intervals of 500, 1000, and 2500 years estimated by using the calculated mean seismic hazard on the frequencies presented peak values at 10.0 Hz, and the log standard deviations of the difference between metropolises ranged from about 0.013 to 0.209. In view of the insignificant difference between the estimated uniform hazard spectra obtained for the considered metropolises, the mean uniform hazard spectrum was estimated. This mean uniform hazard spectrum is expected to be used as input seismic response spectrum for rock sites in Korea.

  • While transforming the inelastic system into the equivalent elastic one gives an advantage of simpler analysis, the actual inelastic behavior of the system is hardly modeled in the capacity spectrum method (CSM). Therefore, the accuracy of CSM depends on the precise estimation of equivalent period and damping ratio as well as the modification of the elastic response spectrum and the corresponding demand spectrum. In this paper, the effect of demand spectrums on the accuracy of CSM is evaluated. First, the response reduction factors provided in ATC-40 and Euro Code are evaluated. Numerical analysis results indicated that the acceleration responses obtained using the factor of Euro Code are closer to the actual response than those obtained using the factors of ATC-40. Next, the accuracy of CSM is evaluated constructing the demand spectrum using the absolute acceleration responses and pseudo acceleration responses. The results obtained using the absolute acceleration responses were found to be generally larger than those obtained using the pseudo ones. Since CSM often underestimates the response, the use of absolute acceleration response gives the response relatively closer to the exact ones. However, the difference becomes negligible as the hardening ratio and the yield strength ratio become larger.

  • An algorithm is presented for estimating the 3-D location (i.e., azimuth angle, elevation angle, and range) of multiple sources with a uniform circular array (UCA) consisting of an even number of sensors. Recently the rank reduction (RARE) algorithm for partly-calibrated sensor arrays was developed. This algorithm is applicable to sensor arrays consisting of several identically oriented and calibrated linear subarrays. Assuming that a UCA consists of M sensors, it can be divided into M/2 identical linear subarrays composed of two facing sensors. Based on the structure of the subarrays, the steering vectors are decomposed into two parts: range-independent 2-D direction-of-arrival (DOA) parameters, and range-relevant 3-D location parameters. Using this property we can estimate range-independent 2-D DOAs by using the RARE algorithm. Once the 2-D DOAs are available, range estimation can be obtained for each source by defining the 1-D MUSIC spectrum. Despite its low computational complexity, the proposed algorithm can provide an estimation performance almost comparable to that of the 3-D MUSIC benchmark estimator.

  • The estimation of fatigue integrity is very important for aerospace structures such as engine mount strut. The reason is that the fatigue integrity is essential analysis process to establish the structural stability in aerospace field. Therefore, in this paper, the process of fatigue analysis and test was performed for engine mount strut to prove the structural fatigue integrity. First of all, the fatigue load spectrum is constructed by considering the small aircraft operating condition. Fatigue analysis is done for the cluster near the welding zone which may have F.C.L.(fracture critical location). The fatigue life of engine mount strut was estimated by the Miner's rule which is the damage summation method. Finally, Fatigue test is performed to verify the fatigue integrity. The estimation process of fatigue integrity for engine mount strut of small aircraft may help the design.

  • Transmit diversity is an efficient diversity technique to improve performance and spectrum efficiency in wireless communication . Coding scheme designed for the transmit diversity is called space-time coding. In this paper, we propose a training structure to apply the transmit diversity to improve the performance of IEEE802.11a OFDM systems. Based on this training structure, we propose a channel estimation scheme using curve fitting. Also we compare and evaluate the performance of space-time codes. The performance of both diversity using space-time codes and channel estimation scheme is investigated by computer simulation in quasi-static 2-ray rayleigh fading environment.

  • This paper presents a beamforming technique for locating impulsive sound source. The conventional frequency-domain beamformer is advantageous for localizing noise sources for a certain frequency band of concern, but the existence of many frequency components in the wide-band spectrum of impulsive noise makes the beamforming image less clear. In contrast to a frequency-domain beamformer, it has been reported that a time-domain beamformer can be better suited for transient signals. Although both frequency- and time-domain beamformers produce the same result for the beamforming power, which is defined as the RMS value of its output, we can use alternative directional estimators such as the peak value and crest factor to enhance the performance of a time-domain beamformer. In this study, the performance of three different directional estimators, the peak, crest factor and RMS output values, are investigated and compared with the incoherent interfering noise embedded in multiple microphone signals. The proposed formula is verified via experiments in an anechoic chamber using a uniformly spaced linear array. The results show that the peak estimation of beamformer output determines the location with better spatial resolution and a lower side lobe level than crest factor and RMS estimation in noise free condition, but it is possible to accurately estimate the direction of the impulsive sound source using crest factor estimation in noisy environment with stationary interfering noise.

  • In this paper, near-field source localization algorithm is presented using Matrix Pencil in Uniform Linear Array(ULA). Based on the centrosymmetry of the ULA, the proposed algorithm decouples the steering vectors which allow for the bearing estimation using Matrix pencil. With estimated bearing, the range estimation of each source is consequently obtained by defining 1D MUSIC spectrum. Simulation results are presented to validate the performance of the proposed algorithm.
