  • In the many countries, research about ultra wideband wireless transmission technique is widely studied for efficient utilization of frequency resource due to a sudden increase of demand of frequency resource all over the world. The ultra wideband communication system has the some specific advantages. First, it can transmit data with high speed, second short transmission range can increase the frequency reuse rate, and finally it has high security property. However, there is a interference between ultra wideband system and other communication system but study to solve this problem is insufficient. To efficient utilization of limited frequency resource, a novel frequency avoidance technique and setup the standardization of frequency interference must need. So, the purpose of this paper is that increases communication efficiency of microwave communication systems to analyze the technical trends for transmission of the low power device, and to research the implementation and technical research of wireless access network technique of wideband communication systems.

  • We have fabricated and characterized MMI (Multimode Interference) coupled ring resonator with the total internal reflection mirrors and the semiconductor optical amplifier for the integration of the WDM (Wavelength Division Multiplexing) system. The TIR (Total Internal Reflection) mirrors were fabricated by self-aligned process and had losses of about 0.71 dB per mirror. Coupling in and out of a resonator was achieved using the extremely small MMI couplers. The MMI length and width used in the experiment were $119{\mu}m$ and $9{\mu}m$, respectively. The resulting FSR (Free Spectral Range) and on-off ratio were approximately 1.333 nm (162 GHz) and 13 dB, respectively.

  • We determined the optical constants of organic light emitting material of Alq$_3$ in a spectral range between 1.5 and 6 eV using the physical model introduced by Forouhi and Bloomer[Phys. Rev. B 34, pp. 7018-7026, 1986.]. The initial parameters of $A_i,\;B_i,\;C_i$ of Forouhi-Bloomer dispersion relations were determined from the absorption peaks and widths of absorption spectra of the Alq$_3$ film. The refractive index of substrate, a fused silica, is derived from the Sellmeier equation with the measured transmittance and reflectance spectra. Then, the complex refractive index and thickness of the Alq$_3$ film were calculated by use of a nonlinear least square fitting program with the Forouhi-Bloomer dispersion relation and the measured transmittance and reflectance spectra.

  • This study attempts to establish a system extracting and monitoring cultural grounds of seaweeds (lavers, brown seaweeds and seaweed fulvescens) and abalone on the basis of both KOMPSAT-2 and Terrasar-X data. The study areas are located in the northwest and southwest coast of South Korea, famous for coastal cultural grounds. The northwest site is in a high tidal range area (on the average, 6.1 min Asan Bay) and has laver cultural grounds for the most. An semi-automatic detection system of laver facilities is described and assessed for spacebome optic images. On the other hand, the southwest cost is most famous for seaweeds. Aquaculture facilities, which cover extensive portions of this area, can be subdivided into three major groups: brown seaweeds, capsosiphon fulvescens and abalone farms. The study is based on interpretation of optic and SAR satellite data and a detailed image analysis procedure is described here. On May 25 and June 2, 2008 the TerraSAR-X radar satellite took some images of the area. SAR data are unique for mapping those farms. In case of abalone farms, the backscatters from surrounding dykes allows for recognition and separation of abalone ponds from all other water-covered surfaces. But identification of seaweeds such as laver, brown seaweeds and seaweed fulvescens depends on the dampening effect due to the presence of the facilities and is a complex task because objects that resemble seaweeds frequently occur, particularly in low wind or tidal conditions. Lastly, fusion of SAR and optic spatial images is tested to enhance the detection of aquaculture facilities by using the panchromatic image with spatial resolution 1 meter and the corresponding multi-spectral, with spatial resolution 4 meters and 4 spectrum bands, from KOMPSAT-2. The mapping accuracy achieved for farms will be estimated and discussed after field verification of preliminary results.

  • Chalcones are naturally occurring, biologically active molecules generating interest from a wide range of research applications including synthetic methodology development, biological activity investigation and studying fragmentation patterns. In this article, a series of chalcones has been synthesized and their fragmentation behavior was studied using modern ambient ionization technique Direct Analysis in Real Time (DART). DART ion source connected with an ion trap mass spectrometer was used for the fragmentation of various substituted chalcones. The chalcones were introduced to the DART source using a glass capillary without sample preparation step. All the chalcones showed prominent molecular ion peaks $[M]^{{\cdot}+}$ corresponding to the structures. Multistage mass spectral data $MS^n$ ($MS^2$ and $MS^3$) were collected for all the chalcones studied. The chalcones with substitutions at 3, 4 or 5 positions gave product ion peaks with the loss of a phenyl radical ($Ph^{\cdot}$) by radical initiated ${\alpha}$-cleavage, while substitution at 2 position of chalcone in the A-ring gave a product ion peak with the loss of substituted styryl radical (PhCH = $CH^{\cdot}$). In case of the chalcones with the substituent at 4 positions in A and B rings gave both types of fragmentation patterns. In conclusion, chalcones can be easily characterized using modern DART interface in very short time and efficiently without any cumbersome sample pretreatment.

  • We present results of long-term multi-wavelength polarization observations of the powerful blazar 3C 279 after its γ-ray flare on 2013 December 20. We followed up this flare with single-dish polarization observations using two 21-m telescopes of the Korean VLBI Network. Observations carried out weekly from 2013 December 25 to 2015 January 11, at 22 GHz, 43 GHz, 86 GHz simultaneously, as part of the Monitoring Of GAmma-ray Bright AGN (MOGABA) program. We measured 3C 279 total flux densities of 22–34 Jy at 22 GHz, 15–28 Jy (43 GHz), and 10–21 Jy (86 GHz), showing mild variability of ≤ 50 % over the period of our observations. The spectral index between 22 GHz and 86 GHz ranged from −0.13 to −0.36. Linear polarization angles were 27°–38°, 30°–42°, and 33°–50° at 22 GHz, 43 GHz, and 86 GHz, respectively. The degree of linear polarization was in the range of 6–12 %, and slightly decreased with time at all frequencies. We investigated Faraday rotation and depolarization of the polarized emission at 22–86 GHz, and found Faraday rotation measures (RM) of −300 to −1200 rad m−2 between 22 GHz and 43 GHz, and −800 to −5100 rad m−2 between 43 GHz and 86 GHz. The RM values follow a power law with a mean power law index a of 2.2, implying that the polarized emission at these frequencies travels through a Faraday screen in or near the jet. We conclude that the regions emitting polarized radio emission may be different from the region responsible for the 2013 December γ-ray flare and are maintained by the dominant magnetic field perpendicular to the direction of the radio jet at milliarcsecond scales.

  • We have investigated seven Extreme-Ultraviolet (EUV) bright points in the active region (AR 10926) on 2006 December 2 by the EUV imaging spectrometer (EIS) onboard Hinode spacecraft. We determined their Doppler velocities and non-thermal velocities from 15 EUV spectral lines (log T=4.7-7.2) by fitting each line profile to a Gaussian function. We present the Doppler velocity map as a function of temperature which corresponds to a different height. As a result, these active region bright points show two different types of characteristics. Type 1 bright point shows a systematic increase of Doppler velocity from -68 km/s (blue shift) at log T=4.7 to 27 km/s (red shift) at log T=6.7, while type 2 bright points have Doppler velocities in the range of -20 km/s and 20 km/s. Using MDI magnetograms, we found that only type 1 bright point was associated with the canceling magnetic feature at the rate of $2.4{\times}10^{18}$ Mx/hour. When assuming that these bright points are caused by magnetic reconnection and the Doppler shift indicates reconnection out flow, the pattern of the Doppler shift implies that type 1 bright point should be related to low atmosphere magnetic reconnection. We also determined electron densities from line ratio as well as temperatures from emission measure loci using CHIANTI atomic database. The electron densities of all bright points are comparable to typical values of active regions (log Ne=9.9-10.4). For the temperature analysis, the emission loci plots indicate that these bright points should not be isothermal though background is isothermal. The DEM analysis also show that while the background has a single peak distribution (isothermal), the EUV bright points, double peak distributions.

  • According to the Korean government's Long-term Space Development Plan 2040, "Creative space science research" is included in a statement to investigate the origin and evolution of the universe by conducting a series of Korean space telescope missions: launch of space telescopes on a small satellite and an international collaboration explorer by 2020, a mid-size domestic space telescope by 2030, and a large size Korea leading international space telescope by 2040. We studied the feasibility of the future Korean Space Telescope (KST) for a mid-size domestic satellite platform. In order to pursue the uniqueness of the science program, we consider a wide range of observing wavelength (0.2um ~ 2.0um) with a spectral resolution of R~6 in the NUV and optical bands, and R~30 for NIR, utilizing an off-axis TMS(Three Mirror System) optics with a wide field of view ($2{\times}4$ degrees) which is optimized for ultra-low surface brightness sources. The main science goals of the mission include investigations of the galaxy formation, cosmic web, and the cosmic background radiation in the NUV-NIR regions. In this paper, we present the science cases and several technical challenges to be resolved along with the future milestones for the success of the KST mission.

  • Results from PL and Raman spectroscopic analyses of HPHT (high-pressure high-temperature) treated type IIa diamonds are presented, and these spectral characteristics are compared with those of untreated diamonds of similar color and type. We identify a number of significant changes by 325 nm He/Cd laser excitation. Several peaks are removed completely, including H4, H3 system in HPHT treated diamond. The N3 system, however, increased in emission. Also we can find the behaviour of the nitrogen-vacancy related center N-V centers at 575 and 637.1 nm, as observed with 514 nm Ar ion laser excitation. When these centers are present, the FWHM (full width at half maximum) of 637.1 nm luminescence intensities offers a potential means of separating HPHT-treated from untreated type IIa diamonds. The width of 637.1 nm $(N-V)^-$line measured at the position oi half the peak's height are determine to range from 19.8 to $32.1cm^{-1}$ for HPHT treated diamonds.

  • This research investigates the performance of the optical transmissions systems using the SSB modulation format The focus was on the spectral efficiency of the WDM systems and the transmission penalties due to the fiber nonlinearities. By investigating the performance obtained with ideal SSB signal, we set the upper limit of the performance which can be obtained by SSB technology. Furthermore, we investigated the performance obtainable with SSB signals which can be generated with realizable devices. Since SSB formats are more susceptible to the fiber nonlinearities, SSB formats exhibited inferior transmission performances compared to the DSB format. However, within the 500~1000 km transmission range, which is the focus of this research, it was found that the WDM systems with 12.5 GHz channel spacings might benefit from the SSB modulation techniques.
