Line observations of young stellar objects (YSOs) at (sub)millimeter wavelengths provide essential information of gas kinematics in star and planet forming environments. For Class 0 and I YSOs, identification of Keplerian rotation is of particular interest, because it reveals presence of rotationally-supported disks that are still being embedded in infalling envelopes and enables us to dynamically measure the protostellar mass. We have developed a python library SLAM (Spectral Line Analysis/Modeling) with a primary focus on analyses of emission line data at (sub)millimeter wavelengths. Here, we present an overview of the pvanalysis tool from SLAM, which is designed to identify Keplerian rotation of a disk and measure the dynamical mass of a central object using a position-velocity (PV) diagram of emission line data. The advantage of this tool is that it analyzes observational features of given data and thus requires few computational time and parameter assumptions, in contrast to detailed radiative transfer modelings. In this article, we introduce the basic concept and usage of this tool, present an application to observational data, and discuss remaining caveats.
Climate change and recent heat waves have drawn public attention toward other environmental issues, such as water pollution in the form of algal blooms, chemical leaks, and oil spills. Water pollution by the leakage of chemicals may severely affect human health as well as contaminate the air, water, and soil and cause discoloration or death of crops that come in contact with these chemicals. Chemicals that may spill into water streams are often colorless and water-soluble, which makes it difficult to determine whether the water is polluted using the naked eye. When a chemical spill occurs, it is usually detected through a simple contact detection device by installing sensors at locations where leakage is likely to occur. The drawback with the approach using contact detection sensors is that it relies heavily on the skill of field workers. Moreover, these sensors are installed at a limited number of locations, so spill detection is not possible in areas where they are not installed. Recently hyperspectral images have been used to identify land cover and vegetation and to determine water quality by analyzing the inherent spectral characteristics of these materials. While hyperspectral sensors can potentially be used to detect chemical substances, there is currently a lack of research on the detection of chemicals in water streams using hyperspectral sensors. Therefore, this study utilized remote sensing techniques and the latest sensor technology to overcome the limitations of contact detection technology in detecting the leakage of hazardous chemical into aquatic systems. In this study, we aimed to determine whether 18 types of hazardous chemicals could be individually classified using hyperspectral image. To this end, we obtained hyperspectral images of each chemical to establish a spectral library. We expect that future studies will expand the spectral library database for hazardous chemicals and that verification of its application in water streams will be conducted so that it can be applied to real-time monitoring to facilitate rapid detection and response when a chemical spill has occurred.
We present the Yonsei evolutionary population synthesis (YEPS) models based on the high-resolution empirical spectral energy distributions (SEDs). We have adopted the MILES library in the optical wavelength, and our new models based on the MILES library show good agreements with our previous models presented in the YEPS I. The effect of hot horizontal-branch (HB) stars on the integrated properties of simple stellar populations (SSPs) is again confirmed by our models based on empirical SEDs. In addition, we have extended our empirical models to the near-IR wavelength and predicted the strengths of the calcium II triplet (CaT) and the Paschen triplet (PaT) based on the INDO-US and the Cenarro library. We find that the effect of HB stars and the age of SSPs on the CaT is almost negligible. On the other hands, the PaT models are very sensitive to the existence of hot stars, e.g., HB stars and young turn-off stars, and show very similar results with Balmer lines. Interestingly, the CaT distribution of GCs in NGC 1407, which is at odds with the optical (B-I) color distribution, can be explained by the unique feature of the CaT-[Fe/H] relations that show almost the same equivalent widths in the metal-rich regime. We will also discuss the impact of the second-generation populations on the strength of the CaT.

In this study, the surface broadband emissivity ($3.0-14.0{\mu}m$) was calculated using the multiple linear regression model with narrow bands (channels 29, 30, and 31) emissivity data of the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on Earth Observing System Terra satellite. The 307 types of spectral emissivity data (123 soil types, 32 vegetation types, 19 types of water bodies, 43 manmade materials, and 90 rock) with MODIS University of California Santa Barbara emissivity library and Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission & Reflection Radiometer spectral library were used as the spectral emissivity data for the derivation and verification of the multiple linear regression model. The derived determination coefficient ($R^2$) of multiple linear regression model had a high value of 0.95 (p<0.001) and the root mean square error between these model calculated and theoretical broadband emissivities was 0.0070. The surface broadband emissivity from our multiple linear regression model was comparable with that by Wang et al. (2005). The root mean square error between surface broadband emissivities calculated by models in this study and by Wang et al. (2005) during January was 0.0054 in Asia, Africa, and Oceania regions. The minimum and maximum differences of surface broadband emissivities between two model results were 0.0027 and 0.0067 respectively. The similar statistical results were also derived for August. The surface broadband emissivities by our multiple linear regression model could thus be acceptable. However, the various regression models according to different land covers need be applied for the more accurate calculation of the surface broadband emissivities.

Hyperspectral images have emerged as a new and promising remote sensing data that can overcome the limitations of existing optical image data. This study was designed to provide a comprehensive review on definition, data processing methods, and applications of hyperspectral data. Various types of airborne, spaceborne, and field hyperspectral image sensors were surveyed from the available literatures and internet search. To understand the current status of hyperspectral remote sensing technology and research development, we collected several hundreds research papers from international journals (IEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing, International Journal of Remote Sensing, Remote Sensing of Environment and AVIRIS Workshop Proceedings), and categorized them by sensor types, data processing techniques, and applications. Although several hyperspectral sensors have been developing, AVIRIS has been a primary data source that the most hyperspectral remote sensing researches were relied on. Since hyperspectral data have very large data volume with many spectral bands, several data processing techniques that are particularly oriented to hyperspectral data have been developed. Although atmospheric correction, spectral mixture analysis, and spectral feature extraction are among those processing techniques, they are still in experimental stage and need further refinement until the fully operational adaptation. Geology and mineral exploration were major application in early stage of hyperspectral sensing because of the distinct spectral features of rock and minerals that could be easily observed with hyperspectral data. The applications of hyperspectral sensing have been expanding to vegetation, water resources, and military areas where the multispectral sensing was not very effective to extract necessary information.

Multi-spectral analyses of excitation and emission fluorescence was applied to spilled crude oils in characterization of their specific fluorescence patterns which is called oil fingerprints. In the present study, oil fingerprints of 33 crude, 4 fuel and 2 other oils were analyzed to establish data base library search system. Cluster analysis showed that crude oils could be classified into two large groups according to their fluorescence characteristics. In simulated experiments, all the spilled sources was identifiable by the present library search system. In the natural environment this system could identify the exact source of weathered crude oil slicks upton 10 days. The present study shows that the fluorescence fingerprinting method with the library search system is reliable and superior to toutine GC/HPLC analyses in identification of the source of weathered spilled oils in the marine environment.

In this paper, radiometric calibration of a FTIR spectrometer for passive remote sensing application was introduced and verified. Radiometric calibration is a significant signal processing procedure to retrieve the object radiance from the measured spectrum. The object radiance is measured and registered distorted by the detector's responsivity dependent on wavelength and instrument self-emission. Radiance of two temperature points, hot temperature and cold temperature, from a well-controlled blackbody was measured and used to obtain the scale factor and offset factor which are required for radiometric calibration. For gas phase C2H5OH. radiometric calibration was done and verified through comparison of its emission line width and intensity with the standard spectrum.
A neutronics study of a supercritical CO2-cooled fast reactor core for nuclear propulsion has been performed in this work. The thermal power of the reactor core is 30 MWth and a ceramic UO2 fuel can be used to achieve a 20-year lifetime without refueling. In order to make a compact core with inherent safety features, the drum-type reactivity control system and folding-type shutdown system are adopted. In addition, we suggest a cold shutdown system using gadolinium as a spectral shift absorber (SSA) against flooding. Although there is a penalty of U-235 enrichment for the core embedded with the cold shutdown system, it effectively mitigates the increment of reactivity at the flooding of seawater. In this study, the neutronics analyses have been performed by using the continuous energy Monte Carlo Serpent 2 code with the evaluated nuclear data file ENDF/B-VII.1 Library. The supercritical CO2-cooled fast reactor core is characterized in view of important safety parameters such as the reactivity worth of reactivity control systems, fuel temperature coefficient (FTC), coolant temperature coefficient (CTC), and coolant temperature-density coefficient (CTDC). We can say that the suggested core has inherent safety features and enough flexibility for load-following operation.

In this study, we introduce various hyperspectral data processing techniques for the monitoring of shallow and coastal waters to enlarge the application range and to improve the accuracy of the end results in Korea. Unlike land, more accurate atmospheric correction is needed in coastal region showing relatively low reflectance in visible wavelengths. Sun-glint which occurs due to a geometry of sun-sea surface-sensor is another issue for the data processing in the ocean application of hyperspectal imagery. After the preprocessing of the hyperspectral data, a semi-analytical algorithm based on a radiative transfer model and a spectral library can be used for bathymetry mapping in coastal area, type classification and status monitoring of benthos or substrate classification. In general, semi-analytical algorithms using spectral information obtained from hyperspectral imagey shows higher accuracy than an empirical method using multispectral data. The water depth and quality are constraint factors in the ocean application of optical data. Although a radiative transfer model suggests the theoretical limit of about 25m in depth for bathymetry and bottom classification, hyperspectral data have been used practically at depths of up to 10 m in shallow and coastal waters. It means we have to focus on the maximum depth of water and water quality conditions that affect the coastal applicability of hyperspectral data, and to define the spectral library of coastal waters to classify the types of benthos and substrates.

Energy group structure has a significant effect on the results of multigroup transport calculations. It is known that $UO_2-PuO_2$ (MOX) is a recently developed fuel which consumes recycled plutonium. For such fuel which contains various resonant nuclides, the selection of energy group structure is more crucial comparing to the $UO_2$ fuels. In this paper, in order to improve the accuracy of the integral results in MOX thermal lattices calculated by WIMSD-5B code, a swarm intelligence method is employed to optimize the energy group structure of WIMS library. In this process, the NJOY code system is used to generate the 69 group cross sections of WIMS code for the specified energy structure. In addition, the multiplication factor and spectral indices are compared against the results of continuous energy MCNP-4C code for evaluating the energy group structure. Calculations performed in four different types of $H_2O$ moderated $UO_2-PuO_2$ (MOX) lattices show that the optimized energy structure obtains more accurate results in comparison with the WIMS original structure.
