  • The study has planned to analyze the most typical specification validation in Korea and the other countries, which shows the well-formed and schema validation, in purpose to enhance users' conveniences. Also, we suggested the validation system to provide the information compatibility regarding to application programs for non-expert. The featured KML specification supported by the VWorld 3D Desktop and the Google Earth. Based on this above estimation, the system has been designed to inform potential problems and the applicability in 3D Desktop and Google Earth for the user. The KML information passed through the proposed validation is simply expressed on the map, so as instructed the information on the program selection and additional details instruct users as a text file. When not being suitable for the proposed program, another program can be considered, and the problems which may be occurred are also announced to increase the compatibility of KML.

  • As a part of ebXML(Electronic Business using eXtensible Markup Language) framework, BPSS(Business Process Specification Schema) has been provided to support the direct specification of the set of elements required to configure a runtime system in order to execute a set of ebXML business transactions. The BPS,' is available in two stand-alone representations, a UML version and an XML version. Due to the limitations of UML notations and XML syntax, however, current ebXML BPSS specification fails to specify formal semantic constraints completely. In this study, we propose a constraint classification scheme for the BPSS specification and describe how to formally represent those semantic constraints using OCL(Object Constraint Language). As a way to validate p Business Process Specification(BPS) with the formal semantic constraints, we suggest a rule-based approach to represent the formal constraints and demonstrate its detailed mechanism for applying the rule-based constraints to the BPS with a prototype implementation.

  • In this paper, we study validation test methods of DEVSA(Descrete Event system Specification) models using SPN(Stochastic Petri Net) models. We discuss conventional validation test methods, by which DEVS models can be transformed to SPN models, by reviewing the features of DEVS model. Based on the model transformation method, we define a new homogeneous function for validation test and suggest a new validation test method of DEVS models using the property of SPN models and the new homogeneous function.

  • The reactor protection system is the most important function for the safe operation of nuclear powerplants (NPPs) in that such system protects a nuclear reactor tore whose damage can cause an enormous disaster to the nuclear facility and the public. A digital reactor protection system (DRPS) is being developed in KAERI for use in the newly-constructed NPPs and also for replacing the existing analog-type reactor Protection systems. In this paper, an software verification and validation (V&V) activities for DRPS, which are independent of the DRPS development processes, are described according to the software development life cycle. The main activities of DRPS V&V processes are the software planning documentations, the verification of software requirements specification (SRS) and software design specification (SDS), the verification of codes, the tests of the integrated software and system. Moreover, the software safety analysis and the software configuration management are involved in the DRPS V&V processes. All of the V&V activities are described, in detail, in this paper.

  • In this paper, we propose Class Diagram With Constraints (CDWC) as an object oriented modeling technique which makes validation possible in software development. CDWC is a simple and basic model for the object oriented analysis, and has a reasonable strictness for software developers. CDWC consists of class diagrams and constraints (invariant and pre/post conditions), using UML and a subset of OCL.. We introduce a method of validation of CDWC using the verification technique of algebraic formal specification language CafeOBJ.

  • The Feature model can not be guaranteed the syntactic accuracy of its model and be difficult the validation using automatic tool for its syntax, because this model is expressed by a graphical and informal structure in itself. Therefore, there is a need to formalize and check for the feature model, to precisely define syntax for construct of the model. This paper presents a Z formal specification and a model checking mechanism of the feature model to guarantee the correctness of the model. It first defines the translation rules between feature model and Z, and then converts the syntax of the feature model into the Z schema specification by applying these rules. Finally, the Z schema specification is checked syntax, type, and domain errors using the Z/Eves validation tool to assure the correctness of its specification, With the use of the proposed method, we may express more precisely the construct of the feature model. Moreover the domain analyst are able to usefully verify the errors of the generated feature model.

  • A Requirement statement validation process is suggested which was established and applied to the rolling stock development project of the Korean Railway Research Institute. The validation process includes team organization, selection of validation criteria, development of validation template, education of team members, validation, construction of database and management of requirement change. Many defects in the specification of requirement were found to be associated with the problem of non-uniqueness, describing solution instead of problem, ambiguity and redundancy. This paper described detailed activities at each step of the validation process and lessons learned from these activities.

  • The OSPF protocol is the most widely used Interior Gateway Routing Protocol. Therefore, for the reliability of behavior of gigabit swiching routers, it is essential to guarantee the interoperability and the safety of the OSPF protocol. In this paper, we analyze the standard document of the OSPF protocol, so that we provide a formal specification that specifies the protocol behaviors by detailed design level using the algebraic formal method. By referring available source codes of the OSPF protocol, we supplement the formal specification to express more detailed behaviors that is not specified definitely in the standard. We also formally verify the interoperability and the safety of the protocol state machine of the specification. By showing that the formal specification specify all of the states and the transition events that appear in the standard document of the OSPF protocol, we prove that the state machine has the completeness, and prove it has the interoperability. To prove that the specification of the protocol has the safety, we formally verify the reachability, the liveness, the livelock-free property, and the deadlock-free property. As a result, we prove the protocol has the consistency. The specification and the validation are also effective to the OSPF Version 3 that inherit the protocol mechanism of the OSPF Version 2.

  • This paper suggests an example of modification of the durability test specifications of electronic control unit for an automotive system in phase of design validation. The basic concept to redefine the specifications of durability test is based on the Arrhenius relationship for accelerated temperature test and the modified Coffin-Manson model for temperature cycle test. The ambient temperature of the powered-event durability test is increased to reduce the required test time of the current specification. Furthermore, the holding time between the events to cool down the temperature of the components is shortened and the resultant temperature rise affects the durability of the components. Thus, the acceleration factor due to the increased temperature range of temperature cycle is also estimated by the modified Coffin-Manson model.
