Ecological Attributes of Species Composition by Topographical Positions in the Natural Deciduous Forest

  • Based upon the vegetation data of woody plants by plot sampling method in the natural deciduous forest of Mt. Jeombong, the study was carried out to examine importance value, rank abundance curve, and species abundance curve, and comparatively evaluate seven different species diversity indices for Shannon-Wiener index, Simpson index, McIntosh index, Log series, Margalef index, Berger-Parker index, and species richness, according to topographic positions. The minimal area which meant only few more species were increased was 3.48 ha in total. The dominant species of valley were Carpinus cordata, Acer pseudo-sieboldianum, Quercus mongolica, Acer mono, and Abies holophylla, and the dominant species of mid-slope were Quercus mongolica, Acer pseudo-sieboldianum, Carpinus cordata, Tilia amurensis, and Fraxinus rhynchophylla. Moreover, the dominant species of ridge were Quercus mongolica, Acer pseudo-sieboldianum, Tilia amurensis, Fraxinus rhynchophylla, and Acer mono. According to rank abundance curve and species abundance curve, species evenness was also low. All of Log series, species richness, Margalef, and Shannon-Wiener index discriminated that valley had the highest diversity, and ridge had the lowest diversity; but, Simpson index, McIntosh index, and Berger-Parker index represented that mid-slope had the highest diversity, and ridge had the lowest diversity. Uniquely, in Berger-Parker index, mid-slope was the higher value than total.

Seasonal Variations in Species Composition and Abundance of Fish and Decapods in an Eelgrass (Zostera marina) Bed of Jindong Bay

  • The objectives of this study to determine seasonal changes in species composition and abundance of fish and decapod assemblage, and the relationships between environmental factors and their abundance in an eelgrass bed of Jindong Bay. A total of 26 fish species and 29 decapod species were collected by a small beam trawl from an eelgrass bed in Jindong Bay in 2002. The dominant fish species were Hexagrammos otakii, Pholis neulosa and P. fangi and these accounted for 48.4 % in the total number of individuals. Dominant decapod taxa were Palaemon macrodactylus, Charybdis japonica, Pagurus minutus and C. bimaculata. These were primarily small species or early juveniles of larger species. Species composition and abundance varied greatly showing a peak in the number of individuals in April and May, and peak biomass in fish in July and decapods in August. Catch rate was low in winter months both in fish and in decapod. Seasonal changes in the abundance of fishes and decapods corresponded with eelgrass biomass and abundance of food organisms indirectly.

1986~87년 영광 연안 저어류의 계절 변동 (Seasonal variation in Species Composition of Demersal Fish off Yongkwang in 1986~87)

  • 1986년 6월에서 1987년 3월 사이 영광 연안에서 소형 otter trawl를 이용하여 계절별로 저어류를 채집하여 종조성 변화를 분석하였다. 총 33종의 어류가 채집되었으며, 그 가운데 민태(Johnius grypotus), 쉬쉬망둑(Chaeturichthys stigmatias), 보구치(Argyrosomus argentatus)와 참서대(Cynoglossus joyneri)가 우점하여, 이 4종이 총 채집개체수의 81.9%, 총생체량의 71.4%를 차지하였다. 출현종수와 채집량은 온수기에 높았고, 이 시기에는 주거종인 참서대와 회유중인 보구치와 민태가 우점하였다. 냉수기에는 출현종수도 적었고, 쉬쉬망둑과 등가시치(Zoarces gillii)가 우점하였다. 본 연구 주요 우점종의 상대빈도는 1995년의 자료와 유사한 계절변동을 보였다. 한반도 서남 연안 천해역의 저어류 자료와 비교한 결과, 민태와 쉬쉬망둑의 상대빈도는 조류가 빨라짐에 따라 감소하였으나, 참서대는 증가하였다. 이러한 중감 경향은 참서대의 체형이 민태나 쉬쉬망둑에 비하여 바닥에 접촉할 수 있는 면이 넓어 조류가 강한 연안역에서 우점할 수 있는 것으로 추정된다.

2006년 고리 주변해역에 출현하는 자치어의 종조성과 출현양상 (Species composition and abundance of larval fishes in the coastal waters off Gori, Korea in 2006)

  • Species composition and abundance of larval fishes in the coastal waters off Gori in the southeastern Korea were investigated from January to December in 2006. During the study period, 32 larvae species belonging to 20 families were collected. The dominant species were Engraulis japonicius, Hexagrammos agrammus, Sillago japonicus, Acropoma japonicum, Apogon lineatus, and Konosirus punctatus. These six species accounted for 87.0% of the total number of individuals collected. The number of species, number of individuals, and species diversity indices fluctuated by season. The peak numbers of species and individuals occurred in July and May, respectively. Correlation analysis showed that monthly variations in water temperature and salinity could act as an indicators of seasonal variations in the larval fish community structure and abundance of the dominant species; in particular, the abundance of S. japonicus, A. japonicum, and A. lineatus were significantly corrected with the water temperature.

Spatial Variability in Distribution, Abundance and Species Composition of the Subtidal Macronlgal Assemblages Found Along the Geumo Archipelago in the Central South Sea of Korea

  • Dense macroalgal assemblages are a common feature of the rocky subtidal habitats along the coast of Geumo Archipelago in the central South Sea of Korea, but are highly variable in space. This study addresses two questions concerning the algal assemblages: (1) how variable the distribution, abundance and species composition of the assemblages are in space, and (2) how closely the distribution, abundance and species composition of the assemblages are correlated to the spatial variation in abiotic factors. To answer these questions, we investigated 30 sites along the coast in autumn of 2003. The nonmetric multidimensional scaling analysis showed that there were strong differences in the composition and abundance of species in the assemblages among the sites. The similarity among the sites based on presence/absence data was approximately 51%, whereas the similarity based on abundance data was less than 37%, suggesting that the abundance of species contributed much to these differences. There were also strong differences in the number of species, abundance and vertical distribution of the assemblages along the coast. Multiple regression analyses revealed that the number of species, abundance and vertical distribution of the assemblages had a positive relationship with water depth, but less than 58% of total variation in these variables was explained by this abiotic factor. The results suggest that spatial (between habitats) variation is an important and consistent component of subtidal algal assemblages in Geumo Archipelago and should be explained before any differences between localities are assessed.

Environmental Factors Affecting the Abundance and Presence of Tree Species in a Tropical Lowland Limestone and Non-limestone Forest in Ben En National Park, Vietnam

  • The effect of environmental variables on the presence and abundance of tree species in a tropical lowland undisturbed limestone and non-limestone forest in Ben En National Park, Vietnam was investigated. The relationships between 13 environmental variables and 29 tree species with a DBH ${\geq}10cm$, as well as between six 6 physical variables with 26 species of seedling and sapling communities were assessed by canonical correspondence analysis (CCA). Data concerning all tree species ${\geq}10cm$ DBH were collected from eighteen $400m^2$ sample plots, while the abundance of regeneration (all individuals ${\leq}5cm$ DBH) was counted in fifty $2{\times}20m$ strip-plots. The significance of species-environments correlations were tested by distribution-free Monte Carlo tests. The CCA of the 29 examined tree species and 13 environmental variables indicated that the presence and abundance of the tree species were closely related to topographic factors. We may confirm that soil properties including pH, soil moisture content, and soil textures, were the most crucial factor in tree species composition and their distribution. Several species including Pometia pinnata, Amesiodendron chinense, Gironniera cuspidate, Cinnamomum mairei, and Caryodaphnopsis tonkinensis were not controlled by soil properties and topographic variables. The CCA also indicated that the abundance of regeneration tree species at all sites had positive and significant correlations with soil depth, while the occurrence of several other tree species (such as Koilodepas longifolium and Aglaia dasyclada) was positively correlated with a higher slope and rocky outcrop.

한국 남해와 동해 연안역 주요 먹이 어종의 풍도변화에 따른 삼치 개체군의 변동 (Population Variation of Spanish Mackerel (Scomberomorus niphonius) according to Its Major Prey Abundance in Southern and Eastern Coastal Waters of Korea)

  • The population variation of Spanish mackerel (Scomberomorus niphonius) according to its major prey abundance was analyzed using monthly catches of coastal set net fisheries in the southern waters off Gyeongsangnam-do and eastern waters off Gyeongsangbuk-do of Korea from 2006 to 2019. The abundance of Spanish mackerel and its prey species fluctuated almost simultaneously with time lags of +2 to -2 months between the set net fisheries in the southern and eastern waters. The generalized additive model revealed that the abundance of Spanish mackerel was influenced by its prey species such as hairtail and anchovy in southern waters, and common mackerel and horse mackerel in eastern waters. The model deviance explained 49% and 42% of Spanish mackerel abundance in southern and eastern waters respectively. These results suggest that the abundance of Spanish mackerel is affected by seasonal migratory prey fish species in the coastal areas and can be linked to their northerly migration.

비행간섭트랩에 포획된 속리산국립공원내의 송장벌레류 종구성 및 풍부도의 계절적 변동 (The effects of seasonal changes on the species composition and abundance of Silphids (Coleoptera: Silphidae) captured by FIT at Mt. Sokrisan National Park, Chungbuk Province)

  • 곤충 군집의 변화는 서식지 환경의 변화를 파악할 수 있는 척도가 된다. 속리산국립공원에서 2003년부터 2007년까지 월별(4월-10월)로 Flight Interception Trap (FIT)을 이용하여 송장벌레류의 종 구성과 풍부도의 변화를 알아보기 위한 조사를 실시하였다. 그 결과, 6종 9,704개체가 조사되었는데, 이 중 넉점박이송장벌레(Nicrophorus quadripunctatus)가 8,763개체(90.3%)로 가장 높은 우점도를 보였다. 넉점박이송장벌레를 제외한 나머지 5종은 971개체(9.7%)에 불과하였다. 송장벌레 6종의 계절적 풍부도 변화에 따르면 7월과 8월이 최성기인 것으로 나타났다. 또한 연간 풍부도는 2004년 이후 점차 감소하는 경향을 보이고 있다. 장기간의 모니터링 결과, 환경지표종으로 활용이 가능한 송장벌레류의 종구성과 풍부도 변화는 속리산의 기후변화를 간접적으로 나타내고 있음을 시사한다.

하천의 지형학적 인자와 식생종수의 관계 -한강수계를 중심으로- (Relationship between Stream Geomophological Factors and the Vegetation Abundance - With a Special Reference to the Han River System -)

  • The purpose of this study was to develop prediction models for plant species abundance by stream restoration. Generally the stream plant is affected by stream gemophology. So in this study, the relationship between the vegetation abundance and stream gemophology was developed by multiple regression analysis. The stream characteristics utilized in this study were longitudinal slope, transectional slope, micro-landforms through the longitudinal direction, riparian width and geometric mean diameter and biggest diameter of bed material, and cumulated coarse and fine sand weight portion. The Pyungchang River with mountainous watershed and the Kyungan stream and the Bokha stream in the agricultural region were selected and vegetation species abundance and stream characteristics were documented from the site at 2~3km intervals from the upper stream to the lower. The Models for predicting the vegetation abundance were developed by multiple regression analysis using SPSS statistics package. The linear relationship between the dependant(species abundance) and independant(stream characteristics) variables was tested by a graphical method. Longitudinal and transectional slope had a nonlinear relationship with species abundance. In the next step, the independance between the independant variables was tested and the correlation between independant and dependant variables was tested by the Pearson bivariate correlation test. The selected independant variables were transectional slope, riparian width, and cumulated fine sand weight portion. From the multiple regression analysis, the $R^2$for the Pyungchang river, Kyungan stream, Bokga stream were 0.651, 0.512 and 0.240 respectively. The natural stream configuration in the Pyungchang river had the best result and the lower $R^2$for Kyunan and Bokha stream were due to human impact which disturbed the natural ecosystem. The lowest $R^2$for the Bokha stream was due to the shifting sandy bed. If the stream bed is fugitive, the prediction model may not be valid. Using the multiple regression models, the vegetation abundance could be predicted with stream characteristics such as, transection slope, riaparian width, cumulated fine sand weigth portion, after stream restoration.

小型定置網資料에 의한 淺水灣 魚類의 水質에 따른 種組成 및 量的 變動 (Seasonal Fluctuations in Abundance and Species Composition of Fishes in Cheonsu Bay Using Trap Net Catches)

  • 1981年에서 1982年 사이 淺水灣 入口에서 小型定置網으로 蒐集한 魚類 群集 의 種組成과 量的 變動을 季節別로 分析하였다. 總 64種의 魚類가 採集되었으며, 小數種이 魚類群集을 優占하였다. 이른 봄에는 漁獲量이 적었으며, 베로라치 (Enedias fangi)와 까나리(Ammodytes personatus)가 優占하였다. 魚類의 種數, 個體數 및 漁獲量은 늦봄에 年中最大값을 보였으며, 이는 魚類들이 産卵 혹은 攝餌를 위하여 灣으로 回族하여 들어오기 때문인 것으로 보인다. 이 시기에는 3種 의 乳泳生魚類, 밴댕이 (Harengula zunasi), 멸치(Engraulis japonica) 및 전어 (Konosirus punctatus)가 優占하였으며, 種類, 個體數 및 어획량이 낮에 비하여 밤에 훨씬 많았다. 여름에는 種數 및 漁獲量이 크게 감소하였으며, 이는 産卵후 成漁가 죽거나, 널리 퍼져 있기 때문인 것으로 보인다. 가을에는 그 해에 태어난 魚類가 再介入하여 어획량이 증가하였다. 이 시기에는 봄, 여름에 産卵한 밴댕이, 멸치 및 전어의 幼漁가 우점하였다. 또, 낮과 밤의 種組成도 큰 차를 보이지 않았다.
