  • This research investigates the current state of beauty related curriculums and departments of undergraduate and graduate programs in Korea. The results also compared beauty related programs at selected overseas universities. A comprehensive list of 4-year universities with beauty related undergraduate and/or graduate programs were surveyed using the KCUE University Entrance Information (http://www.adiga.kr) site provided by the Korean Council for University Education. Information on the name of the department, curriculum, and year of foundation were obtained from the websites of individual universities. There were 58 universities which have beauty related higher education programs; 43 undergraduate programs, 12 graduate programs, and 40 special graduate programs. The number of special graduate departments were 3.7 times larger than the graduate departments; in addition, 43.9% of the special graduate departments were located in the Seoul/Gyeonggi/Incheon area. The curriculums of beauty related 4-year undergraduate departments were focused on the 'Beauty care service' area (50.2%), whereas the curriculums of graduate departments were focused on the 'Cosmetic science' area (40.8%). In case of the special graduate programs, there was little difference between the 'Beauty care service' area (24.4%) and the 'Cosmetic science' area (27.7%). • Using various types of educational media plays an important role in educating students with disabilities. In recent years, augmented reality has emerged as an important technology that can increase the effectiveness of special education programs. This study developed augmented reality contents focusing on the theme 'Weather and Life' in the 'Na' unit of the Basic Special School Curriculum, and explored the possibility of applying the contents to the science education. The contents design instructions and educational programs for this study were developed based on a focus-group interview conducted with five special school teachers and two developers. To explore the possibility of applying the augmented reality contents, a usability evaluation was conducted with 23 special school teachers and 18 students with intellectual disability. The results showed that the augmented reality contents had a high level of usability as the special school teachers received 4.73 and the students with intellectual disability received 4.75 out of 5. As a result of this study, we can draw a conclusion that there is a high possibility of applying augmented reality contents to science education for students with intellectual disability.

  • Although the school-age population is continuously decreasing, the number of people eligible for special education is increasing every year. Special schools, which are comprised entirely of students with special education needs, are vulnerable due to restrictions on evacuation in the event of a fire. However, the characteristics of special schools are not reflected in the plans related to firefighting and safety in special schools. In this study, essential items such as placement of helpers were selected through analysis of firefighting and school safety plans and collection of faculty and staff opinions. Afterwards, through analysis of experts' opinions, a basic fire evacuation scenario was presented that reflected the characteristics of special schools. We hope that this scenario will contribute to the development of customized fire evacuation scenarios for each special school in the future.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the status of implementing special events within school foodservice operations. A total of 359 questionnaires were distributed to dietitians employed at school foodservice operations in Busan from July 1 to 31, 2006 (response rate: 93%). The results indicated that approximately half of the respondents (47.7%) did not implement special events. The types of special events that foodservice operations had most frequently implemented were 'traditional festival day events' (19.0%), 'subdivisions of the season events' (18.3), 'seasonal events' (17.1%), 'school events' (13.0%), 'single day events' (10.2%). According to the dietitians' characteristics, older dietitians implemented 'healthy food events' more frequently than younger dietitians. 'Traditional festival day events' (p<0.05) and 'subdivisions of the season events' (p<0.01) were more frequently implemented in independently managed foodservices than in contract operations. On the other hand, 'international food events', 'gift events', and 'healthy food events' were more frequently implemented in contract foodservices than in independent operations (p<0.001). Dietitians from elementary and middle schools implemented 'winter solstice', 'midsummer', 'children's day', and 'school foodservice day' events more frequently, whereas dietitians from high schools implemented 'midsummer', 'Valentine's day', and 'teacher's day' events more frequently. Most dietitians (94%) had never received education or training for special event marketing previously. Therefore, these results suggest there may be a need to develop educational programs on special event marketing for dietitians.

To explore the possibility of applying the VR-CTP, a usability evaluation was conducted with 30 special school teachers and 44 students with intellectual disabilities. The results showed that the VR-CTP had a high level of usability as the special school teachers received 4.23 and the students with intellectual disabilities received 4.44 out of 5. But there is no difference of usability evaluation on the special teachers' school level and teaching experiences without arrangement of school. Also, there is no difference of usability evaluation on the students' IQ, school level, and arrangement of school.
