  • Empathy is the ability to feel, understand, and respond to the emotions of others from the standpoint of others. Recently, 'sympathy' has emerged as an important issue not only in emotional empathy in relation to individuals but also in 'social empathy', which sees sympathy as a basic principle for maintaining society. This study focuses on the issue of empathy as a new driving force for modern society and focused on 'urban scene' as a spatial application for cultural empathy in the city. Urban scenes approach the city as a space of consumption, classify it according to its inherent attributes, and analyze its characteristics. This study approaches the existing urban scene theory in terms of empathy. In addition, as a way to consume city images reflected on contents, a concrete example of 'contents tourism'is examined, and a 'contents scene' is proposed as a new urban scene and its meaning and possibility are presented.

  • Remote sensing products have long been used to monitor and forecast natural disasters. Satellite-derived rainfall products are becoming more accurate as space and time resolution improve, and are widely used in areas where measurement is difficult because of the periodic accumulation of images in large areas. In the case of North Korea, there is a limit to the estimation of precipitation for unmeasured areas due to the limited accessibility and quality of statistical data. CHIRPS (Climate Hazards Group InfraRed Precipitation with Stations) is global satellite-derived rainfall data of 0.05 degree grid resolution. It has been available since 1981 from USAID (U.S. Agency for International Development), NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration), NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration). This study evaluates the applicability of CHIRPS rainfall products for South Korea and North Korea by comparing CHIRPS data with ground observation data, and analyzing temporal and spatial drought trends using the Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI), a meteorological drought index available through CHIRPS. The results indicate that the data set performed well in assessing drought years (1994, 2000, 2015 and 2017). Overall, this study concludes that CHIRPS is a valuable tool for using data to estimate precipitation and drought monitoring in Korea.

  • Recently, with the development of artificial intelligence and IoT technology, the importance of video processing such as object tracking, medical imaging, and object recognition is increasing. In particular, the noise reduction technology used in the preprocessing process demands the ability to effectively remove noise and maintain detailed features as the importance of system images increases. In this paper, we provide a modified weight filter based on pixel matching in an AWGN environment. The proposed algorithm uses a pixel matching method to maintain high-frequency components in which the pixel value of the image changes significantly, detects areas with highly relevant patterns in the peripheral area, and matches pixels required for output calculation. Classify the values. The final output is obtained by calculating the weight according to the similarity and spatial distance between the matching pixels with the center pixel in order to consider the edge component in the filtering process.

  • According to Carol Duncan, the museum can be studied in the aspect of space and object from viewer experience. The paradigm of modern museums is shifting away from the object toward the human. The modern museum begins to have the diversity activities and the experience by the body. The purpose of this study is to analyze methods of Carlo Scarpa's museum works. An Italian architect, Carlo Scarpa had characterized montage architecture through fragments and isolations. This study reviews the works of Carlo Scarpa's museum focused on Museo di Castelvecchio. Carlo Scarpa had left the existing materials and coated it with new materials intentionally. This method makes the layer and it exposes the historical times. The layer is a reinterpreting technic of Venetian architecture. The perceptive experience appears at the exhibition boundary through light, material, pattern, axis, and composition of elements. Through the analysis, the architecture of Carlo Scarpa's museum provides a walking path and the composition of exhibition objects with visual logics. It makes and show us the experience with combining images. Carlo Scarpa had tried to expose the past times in the architecture of museum with expression on the layers and to connect the body's movements with seeing and gazing. This expression makes possible the perceptual experience. It can be understood as the montage characteristic. Through this, Carlo Scarpa's museum makes us relationship with historical architecture. Carlo Scarpa had planned a exhibitional promenade in the architecture of museums. In this regard, this is the museography of Carlo Scarpa's museums that should be paid attention to modern times in historical architecture.

  • Purpose: To investigate the value of MR textural analysis, including use of diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) to differentiate malignant from benign soft-tissue tumors on 3T MRI. Materials and Methods: We enrolled 69 patients (25 men, 44 women, ages 18 to 84 years) with pathologically confirmed soft-tissue tumors (29 benign, 40 malignant) who underwent pre-treatment 3T-MRI. We calculated MR texture, including mean, standard deviation (SD), skewness, kurtosis, mean of positive pixels (MPP), and entropy, according to different spatial-scale factors (SSF, 0, 2, 4, 6) on axial T1- and T2-weighted images (T1WI, T2WI), contrast-enhanced T1WI (CE-T1WI), high b-value DWI (800 sec/mm2), and apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) map. We used the Mann-Whitney U test, logistic regression, and area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) for statistical analysis. Results: Malignant soft-tissue tumors had significantly lower mean values of DWI, ADC, T2WI and CE-T1WI, MPP of ADC, and CE-T1WI, but significantly higher kurtosis of DWI, T1WI, and CE-T1WI, and entropy of DWI, ADC, and T2WI than did benign tumors (P < 0.050). In multivariate logistic regression, the mean ADC value (SSF, 6) and kurtosis of CE-T1WI (SSF, 4) were independently associated with malignancy (P ≤ 0.009). A multivariate model of MR features worked well for diagnosis of malignant soft-tissue tumors (AUC, 0.909). Conclusion: Accurate diagnosis could be obtained using MR textural analysis with DWI and CE-T1WI in differentiating benign from malignant soft-tissue tumors.

  • In modern society, due to the influence of the 4th industrial revolution, camera sensors and image-based automation systems are being used in various fields, and interest in image and signal processing is increasing. In this paper, we propose a digital filter algorithm for image reconstruction in an impulse noise environment. The proposed algorithm divides the image into eight masks in vertical, horizontal, and diagonal directions based on the local mask set in the image, and compares the standard deviation of each segmentation mask to obtain a reference value. The final output is calculated by applying the weight according to the spatial distance and the weight using the reference value to the local mask. To evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithm, it was simulated with the existing algorithm, and the performance was compared using enlarged images and PSNR.

  • A-PET is a quad-head PET scanner developed for use in small-animal imaging. The dimensions of its volumetric field of view (FOV) are $46.1{\times}46.1{\times}46.1mm^3$ and the gap between the detector modules has been minimized in order to provide a highly sensitive system. However, such a small FOV together with the quad-head geometry causes image quality degradation. The main factor related to image degradation for the quad-head PET is the mispositioning of events caused by the penetration effect in the detector. In this paper, we propose a precise method for modelling the system at the high spatial resolution of the A-PET using a LOR (line of response) based ML-EM (maximum likelihood expectation maximization) that allows for penetration effects. The proposed system model provides the detection probability of every possible ray-path via crystal sampling methods. For the ray-path sampling, the sub-LORs are defined by connecting the sampling points of the crystal pair. We incorporate the detection probability of each sub-LOR into the model by calculating the penetration effect. For comparison, we used a standard LOR-based model and a Monte Carlo-based modeling approach, and evaluated the reconstructed images using both the National Electrical Manufacturers Association NU 4-2008 standards and the Geant4 Application for Tomographic Emission simulation toolkit (GATE). An average full width at half maximum (FWHM) at different locations of 1.77 mm and 1.79 mm are obtained using the proposed system model and standard LOR system model, which does not include penetration effects, respectively. The standard deviation of the uniform region in the NEMA image quality phantom is 2.14% for the proposed method and 14.3% for the LOR system model, indicating that the proposed model out-performs the standard LOR-based model.

  • In this study, we propose a method for detecting coastal surface wastes using an UAV(Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) remote sensing method and an object detection algorithm based on deep learning. An object detection algorithm based on deep neural networks was proposed to detect coastal debris in aerial images. A deep neural network model was trained with image datasets of three classes: PET, Styrofoam, and plastics. And the detection accuracy of each class was compared with Darknet-53. Through this, it was possible to monitor the wastes landing on the shore by type through unmanned aerial vehicles. In the future, if the method proposed in this study is applied, a complete enumeration of the whole beach will be possible. It is believed that it can contribute to increase the efficiency of the marine environment monitoring field.

  • As the number of Coronavirus Disease-19 (COVID-19) patients increases in a global pandemic situation, the usefulness of mobile computed tomography (CT) is gaining attention. Currently, mobile CT follows the basic safety and essential performance evaluation criteria of whole-body or limited-view X-ray CT in order to obtain device approval and evaluation in the Republic of Korea. Unlike stationary CT, mobile CT is not operated in shielded areas but rather areas such as intensive care units, operating rooms, or isolation rooms. Therefore, it requires a different basic safety and essential performance evaluation standard than stationary CT. In this study, four derived basic safety evaluation criteria related to electrical, mechanical, and radiation safety were included (dose indication test, protection against stray radiation, safety measures against excessive X-rays, half-value layer measurement); and seven essential performance evaluation criteria were included (tube voltage accuracy, mAs accuracy, radiation dose reproducibility, CT number of water, noise, uniformity, and spatial resolution); total eleven basic safety and essential performance evaluation criteria were selected. This study aims to establish appropriate basic safety and essential performance evaluation criteria for simultaneously obtaining images with diagnostic value and reducing the exposure of nearby patients, medical staff, and radiologic technologists during the use of mobile CT.
