자기공명분석과 영상촬영을 위한 차폐된 고차경사자계코일의 설계 (Shielded High-Order Gradient Coil Design for Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy and Imaging)

  • High-order field gradients are useful for spatial localization of a volume of interest and dynamic range improvement of signal detection in NMR (Nuclear Magnetic Resonance) spectroscopy and imaging. This paper proposes a design method of shielded high-order gradient coils to reduce tile effect of eddy current on tile spectroscopy and imaging results. According to the experimental results, the shielded gradient coils produce less than 2 % eddy current compared to non-shielded coils. Two shielded $z^2$ gradient coils have been designed and constructed for 1.5 T whole-body and 3.0 T animal NMR imaging systems. Experimental results are in good agreement with the theoretically expected behavior and show the utility of the shielded high-order gradient coils.

  • Gradient coil offers the spatial informations of sample or patient in Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Imaging(NMRI) and its gradient field linearity over the field of view(FOV) has many influence on the MR imaging. Accurate and good quality MR imaging can be acquired by the high gradient field linearity over the FOV. So it is an important part to design of gradient coil with good linearity in the wide imaging range. Usually, Z-directional gradient field is generated by using the Helmholtz type coil which is consisted of one-pair loop with anti-current path. It gets less about 40% linearity of the diameter spherical volume(DSV). In this study, we calculated optimized geometrical parameters of two-pair loop system to cancel odd terms up to $B_7$ included effectively. we also analyzed and compared the gradient field distribution and linearity of the common Helmholtz coil with them of the two-pair loop system.

종관 기상 분포에 따른 PM2.5 농도의 공간적 차이에 관한 연구 (A Study on Spatial Differences in PM2.5 Concentrations According to Synoptic Meteorological Distribution)

  • To investigate the reason for the spatial difference in PM2.5 (Particulate Matter, < 2.5 ㎛) concentration despite a similar synoptic pattern, a synoptic analysis was performed. The data used for this study were the daily average PM2.5 concentration and meteorological data observed from 2016 to 2020 in Busan and Seoul metropolitan areas. Synoptic pressure patterns associated with high PM2.5 concentration episodes (greater than 35 ㎍/m3) were analyzed using K-means cluster analysis, based on the 900 hPa geopotential height of NCEP (National Centers for Environmental Prediction) FNL (Final analysis) data. The analysis identified three sub-groups related to high concentrations occurring only in Busan and Seoul metropolitan areas. Although the synoptic patterns of high PM2.5 concentration episodes that occur independently in Busan and Seoul metropolitan areas were similar, there was a difference in the intensity of pressure gradient and its direction, which tends to be an important factor determining the movement time of pollutants. The spatial difference in PM2.5 concentration in the Korean Peninsula is due to the difference and direction of the atmospheric pressure gradient that develops from southwest to northeast direction.

고해상도 수치예측자료 생산을 위한 경도-역거리 제곱법(GIDS) 기반의 공간 규모 상세화 기법 활용 (Implementation of Spatial Downscaling Method Based on Gradient and Inverse Distance Squared (GIDS) for High-Resolution Numerical Weather Prediction Data)

  • In this study, we examined a spatial downscaling method based on Gradient and Inverse Distance Squared (GIDS) weighting to produce high-resolution grid data from a numerical weather prediction model over Korean Peninsula with complex terrain. The GIDS is a simple and effective geostatistical downscaling method using horizontal distance gradients and an elevation. The predicted meteorological variables (e.g., temperature and 3-hr accumulated rainfall amount) from the Limited-area ENsemble prediction System (LENS; horizontal grid spacing of 3 km) are used for the GIDS to produce a higher horizontal resolution (1.5 km) data set. The obtained results were compared to those from the bilinear interpolation. The GIDS effectively produced high-resolution gridded data for temperature with the continuous spatial distribution and high dependence on topography. The results showed a better agreement with the observation by increasing a searching radius from 10 to 30 km. However, the GIDS showed relatively lower performance for the precipitation variable. Although the GIDS has a significant efficiency in producing a higher resolution gridded temperature data, it requires further study to be applied for rainfall events.

  • A new design scheme of actively-shielded x,y-gradient coils for Magnetic Resonance Imaging(MRI) is proposed. An actively-shielded x-gradient coil has been designed as an example and the results are presented. In MRI, gradient coils are needed for spatial selection and position coding to obtain the position information of the NMR signal. They are usually switched on and off during imaging and the eddy current induced by the current switching usually degrades the final image quality To reduce or remove this kind of problems, the active shielding has been proposed few years ago. In this paper, a new design scheme for actively-shielded x,y-gradient coils, namely, a minimum-power design scheme using current-loop elements, has been proposed. Its utility in designing MRI gradient coils has been shown by using simulation. The design scheme seems to be useful for actively-shielded transverse gradient coils, even of non-cylindrical or of arbitrary-selected shapes.

  • 이 논문의 목적은 Target field approach방법을 사용하여 2차원적인 공간선택을 할 수 있는 고차 평면 경사 자계코일(High-Order SGC: High-Order Surface Gradient Coil)을 설계하는 것이다. 지금까지 쓰이던 원통형의 고차경사자제코일을 이용한 2차원적 원형 선택방법은 한 개의 RF Pulse로 2차원적인 공간 선택을 할 수 있는 장점이 있었으나 선택되어지는 체적의 지름이 6 ~ 8cm로 너무 크다는 단점이 있었다. 이 논문에서는 이와 같은 단점을 극복하기 위해 영상을 얻고자하는 부분에 코일을 좀 더 가까이 붙일 수 있어서 적은 전력으로 선택되어지는 체적의 지름을 1 ~ 4cm까지 줄일 수 있는 표면 고차자계코일을 Target field approach방법을 이용하여 설계하였으며 Phantom과 인체영상을 통해 제작된 코일의 성능을 확인해 보았다. 이전의 Field component 방법을 이용하여 설계한 코일에 의해서 선택되어지는 체적은 타원에 가까운 모양이 되었으나, Target field approach 방법을 이용하여 설계한 코일에 의해서 선택되어지는 체적은 이상적인 원에 가까운 모양이 되었다.

고정 카메라에서의 시공간적 경계 정보를 이용한 이동 객체 윤곽선 검출 방법 (Moving Object Contour Detection Using Spatio-Temporal Edge with a Fixed Camera)

  • 본 논문에서는 시간적, 공간적 경계 정보를 이용한 이동 객체의 윤곽선 검출 방법을 제안한다. 일반적으로 이동 객체의 경우 객체의 윤곽선(contour)을 구성하는 경계(edge) 픽셀에서 시간 축과 공간 축을 중심으로 큰 변화량(gradient)을 가진다. 따라서 시간 축과 공간 축을 중심으로 변화량이 큰 경계 픽셀을 구하면 이동 객체의 윤곽선을 검출할 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 임의의 픽셀에 대하여 시간 축을 중심으로 한 경계 정보를 구하기 위해 Temporal Edge라는 새로운 형태의 변화량 계산 방법을 제안한다. Temporal Edge는 시간 t와, t-2에서 입력된 두 그레이 스케일 영상의 차를 시간 축을 기준으로 x방향, y방향으로 Sobel Mask를 적용하여 구한다. 검출된 Temporal Edge를 이용하여 이동 객체의 윤곽선이 존재하는 후보 영역을 검출하고, 검출된 후보 영역을 중심으로 공간적 경계 정보를 구하여 이동 객체의 대강의 윤곽선을 검출 한다. 후처리 과정에서 검출된 대강의 윤곽선으로부터 배경 경계와 노이즈 픽셀을 제거한 후 최종적으로 이동 객체의 윤곽선을 검출한다. 제안한 방법은 기존의 배경 차 방법과는 다르게 별도의 배경 영상을 만들지 않기 때문에 배경 차 방법이 가지는 문제점을 극복하였으며, 빠른 연산 속도로 실시간 적용이 가능하다. 실험을 통하여 야간에도 강인한 윤곽선을 검출할 수 있음을 확인하였고, 엔트로피 방법과의 비교를 통해 제안하는 방법의 우수성을 보였다.

A Study on the Edge Enhancement of X-ray Images Generated by a Gas Electron Multiplier Chamber

  • In this paper, we describe the results of a study on the edge enhancement of X-ray images by using their fuzzy system representation. A set of gray scale X-ray images was generated using the EGS4 computer code. An aluminum plate or a lead plate with three parallel strips taken out has been used as the object with the thickness and the width of the plate, and the gap between the two strips varied. We started with a comparative study on a set of the fuzzy sets for their applicability as the input fuzzy sets for the fuzzy system representation of the gray scale images. Then we describe how the fuzzy system is used to sharpen the edges. Our algorithm is based on adding the magnitude of the gradient not to the pixel value of concern but rather to the nearest neighboring pixel in the direction of the gradient. We show that this algorithm is better in maintaining the spatial resolution of the original image after the edge enhancement.

Diversity and distribution of invasive alien plant species along elevation gradient in Makawanpur district, central Nepal

  • Background: Knowledge of the spatial trends of plant invasions in different habitats is essential for a better understanding of the process of these invasions. We examined the variation in invasive alien plant species (IAS) richness and composition at two spatial scales defined by elevation and habitat types (roadside, forest, and cultivated lands) in the Makawanpur district of Nepal. Following an elevation gradient ranging from 500 to 2,400 m asl along a mountain road, plant species cover was recorded within sample plots of size 10 m × 5 m. Systematic random sampling was adopted in every 100 m elevation intervals on three habitat types. Results: Altogether 18 invasive alien plants belonging to eight families were recorded within 60 plots, of which 14 species (representing 80%) were from tropical North and South America. The most common plants by their frequency were Ageratina adenophora, Chromolaena odorata, Bidens pilosa, Lantana camara, and Parthenium hysterophorus. We found a significant relationship between species composition and elevation in the study area. Low-elevation regions had a higher number of alien species as compared to high-elevation regions within different habitat types. Conclusions: The species richness and density of IAS were higher in the road site followed by the cultivated land and forest sites. This pattern occurred throughout the elevation range and habitats. IAS were found mostly in the open land with high sunlight availability. Information from such scientific assessment of invasive alien plants will assist in developing appropriate management plans in the Makawanpur district.

A Robust Video Fingerprinting Algorithm Based on Centroid of Spatio-temporal Gradient Orientations

  • Video fingerprints generated from global features are usually vulnerable against general geometric transformations. In this paper, a novel video fingerprinting algorithm is proposed, in which a new spatio-temporal gradient is designed to represent the spatial and temporal information for each frame, and a new partition scheme, based on concentric circle and rings, is developed to resist the attacks efficiently. The centroids of spatio-temporal gradient orientations (CSTGO) within the circle and rings are then calculated to generate a robust fingerprint. Our experiments with different attacks have demonstrated that the proposed approach outperforms the state-of-the-art methods in terms of robustness and discrimination.
