  • Side scan sonar using acoustic wave plays a very important role in the underwater, sea floor, and shallow marine geologic survey. In this study, we have acquired side scan sonar data for the underwater man-made structures, artificial reefs and fishing grounds, installed and distributed in the survey area. We applied digital image processing techniques to side scan sonar data in order to improve and enhance an image quality. We carried out digital image processing with various kinds of filtering in spatial domain and frequency domain. We tested filtering parameters such as kernel size, differential operator, and statistical value. We could easily estimate the conditions, distribution and environment of artificial structures through the interpretation of side scan sonar.

  • This paper aims to propose an image processing technique for measuring the static displacement of bridges from general inspection photograph; the color, shape, and spatial transformations of an arbitrary image stored in bridge management system database are used. This study is verified by using numerical analyses with experiments; the results demonstrate that the static displacement of bridges are measured by proposed technique. Moreover, this technique is able to obtain the static structural response of the bridge with changes in temperatures.

  • This paper describes the SAR geocoding module, which is the sub-module of a IRHIS ('Integrated RS s/w for High resolution satellite ImageS'): package of 'Development of High Resolution Satellite Image Processing Technique' project in Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI). The function of this module is following. 1) Orbit Type : ERS1/ERS2, RADARSAT 2) Data Format : SAR CEOS Format(Single Look Complex) 3) Function: - Geocode : Generate a map projected SAR image based on only orbit information - Orthorectify: Generate a rigorous geocoded SAR image with a DEM information In this paper, we briefly describe the algorithm that is adopted to the functions, and component architecture.

  • In this paper, we propose a method that converts a inputted real image to a image feeling like printmaking. That is, this method converts a inputted real image to man made rubber printmaking style image using image processing techniques such as spatial filters, image bit-block transfer, etc. The process is as follows. First, after detecting edges in source image, we get the first image by deleting noise lines and points, then by sharpening. Secondly, we get second image using the similar method to the first image. Finally, we blend the first and the second image by logical AND operation This processing enables us to represent rubber panel and knife effects. Also, the proposed method shows that double edge detecting is effective in enhancing line-width and removing the tiny lines.

  • The approaches to overcome the limited spatial resolution and the limited dynamic range of image sensors have been studied independently. A high resolution image is reconstructed from multiple low resolution observations and a wide dynamic range image is reconstructed from differently exposed multiple low dynamic range in es based on signal processing approach. In practical situations, it is reasonable to address them in a unified context because the recorded image suffers from limitations of both spatial resolution and dynamic range. In this paper, the image acquisition process including limited spatial resolution and limited dynamic range is modelled. With the image acquisition model, the response function of the imaging system is estimated and the single image of which spatial resolution and dynamic range are simultaneously enhanced is obtained. Experimental results indicate that the proposed algorithm outperforms the conventional approaches that perform the high resolution and wide dynamic range reconstruction sequentially with respect to both objective and subjective criteria.

  • In block-based lossy video compression, severe quantization causes discontinuities along block boundaries so that annoying blocking artifacts are visible in decoded video imases. These blocking artifacts significantly decrease the subjective image quality. In order to reduce the blocking artifacts in decoded images, many algorithms have been proposed However studies on so called, corner outliers, have been very limited. Corner outliers make image edges look disconnected from those of neighboring blocks at cross block boundary. In order to solve this problem, we propose a corner outlier detection and compensation algorithm as post-processing in spatial domain The experiment results show that the proposed method provides much improved subjective image quality.

  • This paper presents a new adaptive fast motion estimation algorithm along with its architecture. The conventional algorithm such as full - search algorithm, three step algorithm have some disadvantages which are related to the amount of computation, the quality of image and the implementation of hardware, the proposed algorithm uses spatial correlation and a slope of motion vector in order to reduce the amount of computation and preserve good image quality, The proposed algorithm is better than the conventional Block Matching Algorithm(BMA) with regard to the amount of computation and image quality. Also, we propose an efficient at chitecture to implement the proposed algorithm. It is suitable for real time processing application.

  • Recently, image matching becomes important in Computer Aided Diagnosis (CAD) due to the huge amount of medical images. Specially, texture feature is useful in medical image matching. However, texture features such as co-occurrence matrices can't describe well the spatial distribution of gray levels of the neighborhood pixels. In this paper we propose a frequency domain-based texture feature extractor that describes the local spatial distribution for medical image retrieval. This method is based on 2D Local Discrete Fourier transform of local images. The features are extracted from local Fourier histograms that generated by four Fourier images. Experimental results using 40 classes Brodatz textures and 1 class of Emphysema CT images show that the average accuracy of retrieval is about 93%.

  • Recently, with the popularization of digital devices, the requirements of image quality is becoming higher and higher. However, the images are frequently corrupted in the image data processing, there are several reasons for this and the noise is considered as the main reason. Therefore, in order to alleviate the influence of AWGN(additive white Gaussian noise) in image, this paper puts forward the spatial weighted filtering algorithm. The algorithm set the weighted value according to the spatial distance, compared with the existing methods. The algorithm not only alleviated the influence of AWGN effectively but also reserved image details.
