A Spectral-spatial Cooperative Noise-evaluation Method for Hyperspectral Imaging

  • Hyperspectral images feature a relatively narrow band and are easily disturbed by noise. Accurate estimation of the types and parameters of noise in hyperspectral images can provide prior knowledge for subsequent image processing. Existing hyperspectral-noise estimation methods often pay more attention to the use of spectral information while ignoring the spatial information of hyperspectral images. To evaluate the noise in hyperspectral images more accurately, we have proposed a spectral-spatial cooperative noise-evaluation method. First, the feature of spatial information was extracted by Gabor-filter and K-means algorithms. Then, texture edges were extracted by the Otsu threshold algorithm, and homogeneous image blocks were automatically separated. After that, signal and noise values for each pixel in homogeneous blocks were split with a multiple-linear-regression model. By experiments with both simulated and real hyperspectral images, the proposed method was demonstrated to be effective and accurate, and the composition of the hyperspectral image was verified.

  • In multimedia information retrieval applications, content-based image retrieval is essential for retrieving relevant multimedia documents. The purpose of our paper is to provide effective representation and efficient retrieval of images when a pixel-level original image is automatically or manually transformaed into its iconic image containing meaningful graphic descriptions, called icon objects. For this, we first propose new spatial match representationschemes to describe spatial relationships between icon objects accurately by expressing them as rectangles, rather than as points. In order to accelerate image searching, we also design an efficient retrieval method using a two-dimensional signature file organization. Finally, we show from our experiment that the proposed representation schemes achieve better retrieval effectiveness than the 9-DLT (Direction Lower Triangular) scheme.

  • We describe the experimental realization of image system using wavefront coding in 3-Mega pixel mobile phone camera. We designed aspheric lens to extend the depth of field (DOF) using wavefront coding. In addition, through the aspheric lens and lens barrel manufacturing, we obtained a raw image from a camera module. In our method, the acquired images are restored in the spatial frequency domain using the proposed filter and the spatial frequency response (SFR) is calculated. The proposed filters are composed of image denoising filter using low band pass filter in frequency domain and restoration filter for image restoration. Finally, we achieve an enhanced image by super-resolution image processing. Visual examples are given to demonstrate the performance of the proposed filter.

Modified Weighted Filter Algorithm for Noise Elimination In Mixed Noise Environments

  • Noise is regarded as an unwanted component of the image because it significantly reduces image quality. And image is often corrupted by mixed noise. In this paper an efficient modified weighted filter algorithm which combines spatial weight and intensity weight is proposed for removing mixed noise. In the proposed method, the filtering mask is separated into the four sub-windows and the parameters of the weights are confirmed by calculating local standard deviation and the mean of four sub-windows' standard deviations. Considering the spatial information and intensity information, the proposed method has good performance on not only noise elimination but also preservation of details. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed method performs better than conventional algorithms.

  • Blind restoration for motion-blurred images is always the research hotspot, and the key for the blind restoration is the accurate blur kernel (BK) estimation. Therefore, to achieve high-quality blind image restoration, this thesis presents a novel windowed-total-variation method. The proposed method is based on the spatial scale of edges but not amplitude, and the proposed method thus can extract useful image edges for accurate BK estimation, and then recover high-quality clear images. A large number of experiments prove the superiority.

Region of Interest Detection Based on Visual Attention and Threshold Segmentation in High Spatial Resolution Remote Sensing Images

  • The continuous increase of the spatial resolution of remote sensing images brings great challenge to image analysis and processing. Traditional prior knowledge-based region detection and target recognition algorithms for processing high resolution remote sensing images generally employ a global searching solution, which results in prohibitive computational complexity. In this paper, a more efficient region of interest (ROI) detection algorithm based on visual attention and threshold segmentation (VA-TS) is proposed, wherein a visual attention mechanism is used to eliminate image segmentation and feature detection to the entire image. The input image is subsampled to decrease the amount of data and the discrete moment transform (DMT) feature is extracted to provide a finer description of the edges. The feature maps are combined with weights according to the amount of the "strong points" and the "salient points". A threshold segmentation strategy is employed to obtain more accurate region of interest shape information with the very low computational complexity. Experimental statistics have shown that the proposed algorithm is computational efficient and provide more visually accurate detection results. The calculation time is only about 0.7% of the traditional Itti's model.

  • Histogram is a very useful method on various practical aspect. With increasing importance of simple calculation method and convenience, it became the basic method in digital image processing nowadays. However, basic limit of using histogram is losing spatial position information of pixels on image. This paper reanalyzes image by presenting histogram with spatial position information(spatial histogram). Also using that result, level order recursive median filter is realized. Presented recursive median filter showed much improved results on edge maintenance aspect compared to existing recursive median filter.

  • In recent years automatic image indexing and retrieval have been increasingly studied. However, content-based retrieval techniques for general images are still inadequate for many purposes. The novelty and originality of this thesis are the definition and use of a spatial information model as a contribution to the accuracy and efficiency of image search. In addition, the model is applied to represent color and shape image contents as a vector using the method of image features extraction, which was inspired by the previous work on the study of human visual perception. The indexing scheme using the color, shape and spatial model shows the potential of being applied with the well-developed algorithms of features extraction and image search, like ranking operations. To conclude, user can retrieved more similar images with high precision and fast speed using the proposed system.

A Study on Fusion and Visualization using Multibeam Sonar Data with Various Spatial Data Sets for Marine GIS

  • According to the remarkable advances in sonar technology, positioning capabilities and computer processing power we can accurately image and explore the seafloor in hydrography. Especially, Multibeam Echo Sounder can provide nearly perfect coverage of the seafloor with high resolution. Since the mid-1990's, Multibeam Echo Sounders have been used for hydrographic surveying in Korea. In this study, new marine data set as an effective decision-making tool in various fields was proposed by visualizing and combining with Multibeam sonar data and marine spatial data sets such as satellite image and digital nautical chart. The proposed method was tested around the port of PyeongTaek-DangJin in the west coast of Korea. The Visualization and fusion methods are described with various marine data sets with processing. We demonstrated that new data set in marine GIS is useful in safe navigation and port management as an efficient decision-making tool.

  • This paper describes the system development for the Ground Control Point collection and management through the major coastline region in KOREA, which will collect and manage the ground control point based on high resolution satellite image database.
