연료 조성 및 스파크 플러그 위치 변경으로 인한 가스 엔진의 성능에 관한 연구 (Study on the Performance of an SI Gas Engine by Fuel Composition and Spark Plug Variation)

  • 연료의 사용으로 인한 이산화탄소의 발생량을 줄일 수 있는 방법으로 바이오가스 또는 매립가스와 같은 신재생 가스 연료를 사용하는 방법이 도움이 될 수 있다. 그러나 다량의 불활성가스가 포함되어 있기 때문에 저발열량 및 연료 조성의 불균일함은 신재생 가스 연료를 발전용 엔진에 적용하는 경우, 엔진 성능에 큰 영향을 미칠 수 있기 때문에 이에 대한 연구가 필요하다. 본 연구에서는 신재생가스연료에 불활성가스가 엔진 연소가 불안정한 정도로 많이 포함된 경우에 수소 연료를 첨가함으로써 연소 안정성을 개선할 수 있음을 확인하고, 엔진의 열효율 및 배기 특성과 같은 성능 변화에 대하여 살펴보았다. 또한 같은 조건에서 엔진 효율 및 배기 성능을 향상시키기 위한 방안으로 길이가 긴 전극을 갖는 스파크 플러그를 적용하여 효과가 있음을 확인하였다.

실린더 압력을 이용한 SI엔진의 페루프 점화시기 제어에 관한 연구 (SI Engine Closed-loop Spark Advance Control Using Cylinder Pressure)

  • The introduction of inexpensive cylinder pressure sensors provides new opportunities for precise engine control. This paper presents a control strategy of spark advance based upon cylinder pressure of spark ignition engines. A location of peak pressure(LPP) is the major parameter for controlling the spark timing, and also the UP is estimated, using a multi-layer feedforward neural network, which needs only five pressure sensor output voltage samples at -40˚, -20˚, 0˚, 20˚, 40˚ after top dead center. The neural network plays an important role in mitigating the A/D conversion load of an electronic engine controller by increasing the sampling interval from 10 crank angle(CA) to 20˚ CA. A proposed control algorithm does not need a sensor calibration and pegging(bias calculation) procedure because the neural network estimates the UP from the raw sensor output voltage. The estimated LPP can be regarded as a good index for combustion phasing, and can also be used as an MBT control parameter. The feasibility of this methodology is closely examined through steady and transient engine operations to control individual cylinder spark advance. The experimental results have revealed a favorable agreement of individual cylinder optimal combustion phasing.

고주파 전기회로의 개폐불꽃에 의한 LPG-공기 혼합가스의 최소점화한계전압에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Minimum Ignition Limit Voltages for LPG-Air Mixtures by Discharge Sparks in Radio-frequency Circuits)

  • 본 논문은 고주파 발생장치와 IEC형 불꽃점화 시험장치를 이용하여 라디오 주파수 범위내에서 발생하는 개폐불꽃에 의한 LPG-Air 5.25[Vol$\%$]의 혼합가스에 대한 최소점화한계전압을 구하였다. 그 결과 LPG-Air 혼합가스는 주파수가 높을수록 최소점화한계전압도 높아졌으며, 특히 3[KHz]에서 10[KHz]사이에서 현저히 증가함을 알 수 있었다. 이는 3[KHz]까지는 1회의 방전에너지에 의해 점화가 발생되지만 3[KHz]이상에서는 2회 이상의 방전에너지가 누적되어 점화가 일어남을 알 수 있었고 그 이유는 방전과 방전간의 휴지기간이 존재하므로써 생기는 에너지의 손실이 그 원인으로 생각된다. 본 연구결과는 가스가 존재하는 위험장소에서도 안전하게 사용될 수 있는 통신장비나 각종탐지기 등에 응용될 수 있는 본질안전 방폭형 고주파 전기기기의 연구개발을 위한 기본자료로서 뿐만 아니라 이들 장비의 방폭성능에 대한 시험자료로도 활용가능할 것으로 사료된다.

메탄올 使용時 의 電氣점火機關 의 性能 에 關한 硏究 (Performance of a Spark Ignition Engine Fueled with Methanol)

  • Engine torque, specific fuel consumption and MBT spark advance of a domestic automotive engine fueled with methanal-gasoline blends or straight methanal were studied under steady state condition and compared to those obtained with gasoline. The effects of adding methanal to gasoline on engine performance were studied with or without any carburetor modification. At first, the engine was operated without any modification. Next, the diameters of metering orifices in carburetor were modified to give the same excess air factor regardless of fuel type under each fixed engine operating condition. Finally, the diameters of metering orifices in carburetor were modified to give the same excess air factor for 15% mixture of methanal in gasoline by volume as for gasoline with standard metering orifices in carburetor. The effects of adding methanal to gasoline on engine torque, specific energy consumption and MBT spark advance can be explained on the basis of change in stoichiometry caused by the addition of methanal to gasoline.

  • 본 논문에서는 Indolene-MPHA(Methanol Plus High Alcohols)가 엔진성능에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구가 이루어졌다. 본 연구에서는 연료의 성능 인자를 측정하였다. 특히 연료의 성능 인자들인 MBT 점화 시기, 출력, 열효율 등이 측정되었다. 여기에서 알콜 농도는 청정 Indolene의 체적에 따라서 0∼100%까지 변화시켰다. 연료의 성능 인자들은 서로 다른 압축비에서 단기통 스파크점화 엔진을 사용하여 측정하였다. 성능 측정결과에 따르면 Indolene-MPHA 혼합물이 Indolene-Methanol 혼합물보다 빠른 MBT 점화 시기와 유사한 출력 그리고 낮은 열효율을 나타내고 있음을 알 수 있다.

  • Environmental concerns and shortage of petroleum have promoted considerable interest in the use of alternate fuels in stationary diesel engine. In this study, a heavy-duty, intercooler-turbocharged 6-cylinder stationary diesel engine was converted into stationary gas engine fueled with propane or natural gas for the cogeneration plants. One of the most important factors in the combustion features of a stationary gas engine is the fuel composition and operating parameters in terms of compression ratio, spark advance, and engine loads. Experiments with different fuel gas and load conditions were carried out with combustion pressure analysis and NOx measurement. Combustion analysis based on P-$\theta$ diagrams was also investigated by means of combustion duration and cycle variation. Compression ratio is 10.0 and ignition timing is set by using the gasoline setting as a base line and advanced toward BTDC. The results show that fuel composition and spark advance have dominant effects on combustion and NOx characteristics at operating conditions.

Combustion and Emission Characteristics of a Natural Gas Engine under Different Operating Conditions

  • Natural gas is a promising alternative fuel of internal combustion engines. In this paper, the combustion and emission characteristics were investigated on a natural gas engine at two different fuel injection timings during the intake stroke. The results show that fuel injection timing affects combustion processes. The optimum spark timing (MBT) achieving the maximum indicated mean effective pressure (IMEP) is related to fuel injection timing and air fuel ratio. At MBT spark timing, late fuel injection timing delays ignition timing and prolongs combustion duration in most cases. But fuel injection timing has little effect on IMEP at fixed lambdas. The coefficient of variation (COV) of IMEP is dependent on air fuel ratio, throttle positions and fuel injection timings at MBT spark timing. The COV of IMEP increases with lambda in most cases. Late fuel injection timings can reduce the COV of IMEP at part loads. Moreover, engine-out CO and total hydrocarbon (THC) emissions can be reduced at late fuel injection timing.

  • Ignitabilility of explosive gas mixture by spark of dry cell in case of short circuit by accident was studied for the purpose of evaluation of intrinsically safe characteristics of dry cell that manufactured in Korea. IEC type spark test apparatus, $21{\pm}2$ Vol% of hydrogen - air mixture, and dry cell that produced in Korea was used for the experiment. The result of this research could be used for design, manufacturing, and using the intrinsically safe electrical apparatus.

공회전에서 스파크 점화기관 연소의 사이클 변동 해석 (Analysis of the Cyclic Variability in SI Engine at Idling)

  • Cyclic variability has long been recognized as limiting the range of operating conditions of spark ignition engines, in particular, under lean and highly diluted operation conditions. The cyclic combustion variations can be characterized by the pressure parameters, combustion parameters, and flame front parameters. The coefficient of variation in indicated mean effective pressure ($COV_{IMEP}$) defines the cyclic variability in indicated work per cycle, and it has been found that vehicle driveability problems usually result when $COV_{IMEP}$ exceeds about 10%. For analysis of the cyclic variability in SI engines at idling, the results show that cyclic variability by the $COV_{IMEP}$ or the coefficient of variation in maximum pressure can be explained and may be consequently reduced by the help of the optimum spark timings.

인돌렌-메탄올 대체연료의 연료 특성과 엔진성능에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Fuel Characteristics and Engine Performance of Indolene - Methanol Alternative Fuel)

  • A study of the propeny and performance effect of Indolene - Methanol Plus High Alcolhols (MPHA) has been completed. This study invested the measurement of fuel properties and performance parameters. The fuel properties investigated are distillation characteristics, heating valuer flash point, specific gravity and water tolerance. The performance parameters measured are minimum advance for best torque (MBT) spark timing, power output. The alcohol concentration was varied from 0 to 100 percent by volume in clear Indolene. The measurement of fuel properties indicated that, in general, Indolene - MPHA blends have higher water tolerance, similar specific gravity, similar flash point and different distillation characteristics compared to Indolene - Methanol blends. The performance parameters were measured using a single cylinder spark ignition engine at different compression ratios. The results of the performance measurements indicated that Indolene - MPHA blends have a higher MBT spark advance, similar power output.
