  • This experimental were investigated on the influence of steel fiber reinforcement on flexural behavior characteristics of slabs with various steel fiber contents $V_f$ and aspect ratio($\ell $/$\phi$). Deflection, crack widths, and strains of steel bar were measured with every load step. In the results of this experimental, the addition of steel fibers to conventionally reinforced concrete slab increased the ultimate load, reduced the creak width, the average crack spacing, and deflection.

  • This paper presents the effect of diaphragm spacing ratio(depth to span) on behavior and capacity of composite steel-concrete structures of sandwich system. Numerical analysis has been performed variety diaphragm ratio, behavior and load condition. As a results of this study, in case of shear behavior and concentrated load, the capacity of structure such as yielding and ultimate load improve according to diaphragm ratio because of concrete confining effect by steel plate and stress redistribution by diaphragm. But in case of bending behavior or uniform load, it proved that diaphragm ratio don't influence on behavior and capacity of composite structures of sandwich system.

  • This paper presents the experimental results concentrically reinforced concrete tension members and compares cracking behavior of amorphous steel fiber and normal steel fiber reinforced concrete members. Two kind of steel fibers were included as a major experimental parameter together with the six cover thickness to bar diameter ratio ($c/d_b$). The presence of amorphous steel fibers effectively controlled the splitting cracks initation and propagation. In the amorphous steel fiber reinforced specimens, no splitting cracks were observed that becomes higher with cover thickness to bar diameter ratio is 2.0. Crack spacing of the each specimens reinforced with amorphous steel fibers and normal steel fibers becomes larger with the increase in cover thickness, and also measured maximum and average crack spacing are significantly smaller than current design code provision. Based on the measured crack spacings, a relationships for predicting the crack spacing is proposed using the measured average crack spacing in amorphous steel fiber reinforced concrete tension members.

  • This paper discusses the lateral behavior of single and group piles in homogeneous and non-homogeneous(two layered) soil. In the single pile, the model tests were conducted to investigate the effects on ratio of lower layer height to embedded pile length, ratio of soil modules of upper layer to lower layer, boundary rendition of pile head and tip, embedded pile length, pile construction condition, ground condition with saturate and moisture state in Nak-Dong river sand. Also, in the group pile, the model tests were to investigate the effects on spacing-to-diameter ratio of pile, pile array, ratio of pile spacing, boundary condition of pile head and tip, eccentric load and ground condition. The maximum bending moment and deflection induced in active piles were found to be highly dependent on the relative density, pile construction condition, boundary condition of pile head and tip. Based on the results obtained, it was found that the decrease of lateral bearing capacity in saturated sand was in the range of 31% - 53% as compared with the case of dry sand. Also, in the group pile, a spacing-to-diameter of 6.0 seems to be large enough to eliminate the group effect for the case of relative density of 61.8%, and 32.8%, and then each pile in such a case behaves essentially the same as a single pile. In this study, the program is developed by using the modified Chang method which used p - y method and the exact solution of governing equation of pile and it can be used to calculate the deflection, bending moment and soil reaction with FDM in non-homogeneous soil. In comparing the modified Chang method with field test results, the predict results shows better agreement with measured results in field tests.

  • The behavior of the fiber reinforced concrete (FRC) base under environmental loads was analyzed numerically as a fundamental study to develop a high structural and functional performance composite pavement system in which the base was formed using FRC and the asphalt or cement concrete surface was placed on it. A two-dimensional finite element model of the FRC base was developed and the sensitivity study was performed with the variables including slab thickness of base, thermal expansion coefficient, elastic modulus, and tensile and compressive strengths. The crack spacing and crack width were selected as representatives of the base behavior. The effects of the selected variables on the crack spacing and crack width were analyzed and the sensitive variables were determined. The results of this study could be useful to determine the optimal material properties of the FRC base for combining well with the surface materials.

  • This experiment was conducted to evaluate the tillering behavior of low- and high-tillering rice plants, IR58. a high-tillering cultivar with small panicles showed not only higher tiller number but also earlier tillering, faster tillering rate and longer tillering duration than IR25588. a low-tillering cultivar with large panicles, Tillering ability of IR25588 was only 59% that of IR58, Percent effective tillers was higher in IR25588(85%) than in IR58 (67%), Tillering response to wider spacing was higher in a high-tillering cultivar than in a low-tillering cultivar, Grain yield response to closer spacing (close spacing adaptability) was higher in a low-tillering cultivar than in a high-tillering cultivar.

  • The wake-induced vibration and proximity-induced vibration of two interfering circular cylinders in tandem are investigated experimentally, using an elastically supported cylinder and a fixed cylinder in uniform crossflow. Dynamic responses and flow periodicity in wake are measured to investigate the effect of system parameters on aerodynamic instability. The parameters include the free stream wind velocity and the position of two interfering circular cylinders. The oscillating behavior of the amplitude of the elastically supported cylinder is changed by varying the position, the relative gap spacing between two interfering circular cylinders and the reduced velocities. In small gap spacing between the elastically supported cylinder located to upstream and the circular cylinder fixed to downstream, the fluidelastic instability is founded. The vibration amplitude decreases notably as gap spacing between two interfering circular cylinders becomes large. The dynamic behavior at g/D-4.0 is similar to that of the single circular cylinder.

  • This study analytically reviewed the behavior of Steel Plate Concrete(SC) walls subjected to cyclic loads to investigate the effects of shape and arrangement spacing of studs on the behavior of SC walls. To perform it, 9 cases of finite element analyses considering the different shape and spacing of studs in SC wall were carried out. As the results, the skeleton curves were obtained from the load-displacement history curves and the ultimate and yielding forces were increased as the spacing of studs decrease. In addition, the strength of inclined studs are shown to be bigger compared to that of general studs. The damping ratios are increased as the decrease of strength ratio. Finally, as the decrease of stud spacings, the cumulative dissipated energy was increased and the seismic performance was improved.

  • An elasto-plastic constitutive model for geological materials, which satisfies the flezibility and stability at the same time, can be used in a number of geotechnical problems. Using the spacing ratio of critical state, a flexible model is proposed based on the stability of modified Camflay model. The spacing ratio of critical state can be simply evaluated, and practically used in describing the undrained shearing behavior of clay. The proposed model has precisely predicted the stress paths and stress -strain relationships, compared with the modified Camflay model, with respect to undrained triaxial test results. Besides, the effects of strain rate, creep, and relaxation can also be considered. Using the quasi-state boundary surface, the constitutive relations are well predicted. Therefore, it is found that the assumption of associative flow rule is well posed for undrained behavior of normally consolidated clay.
