Recently the reusable launch vehicle is being a major trend in the worldwide space market, because a few commercial companies, especially SpaceX, are trying to cut down the launch price through developing and succeeding the reusable launch vehicles. However, there is still a big controversy about whether in view point of the launch cost which is more favorable between expendable and reusable. Therefore, a study and close examination is required for the launch cost in the early development phase of the reusable launch vehicle. In this study the sensitivity analysis is performed with respect to the major cost parameters which have great effects on the launch cost and price. The standard vehicle of this sensitivity analysis is the expendable vehicle having a payload 20 tons. The cost estimation relationships used in this calculation are referred from the commonly proven cost models such as TRANSCOST. The major cost parameters chosen in this study are as follows: development cost, production cost, refurbishment cost, and maximum reusable number.

Due to the weight reduction and miniaturization of satellites, there is a growing interest in low-cost launch vehicles, which are cheaper to launch than larger launch vehicles. One of the most cost-effective ways to reduce the cost of launch vehicles is the reuse of vehicles. Most companies that are developing low cost launch vehicles are also adopting a vehicles reuse approach. Along with this reuse purpose, the demand for environmentally friendly space launch vehicles has increased, so the choice of fuel used for low cost launch vehicles has also become very important. Methane and hydrogen-enriched compressed natural gas (HCNG), which makes more energy-efficient by adding hydrogen to methane, are considered to be the most suitable when considering other factors such as energy density among the fuels that are eco-friendly and capable of reusing the launch vehicles. This study investigated the trends of low-cost launch vehicle and rocket fuel in the world as a reference for setting up domestic space development after the development of Korea Space Launch Vehicle-II.

In this paper, design study of a small two-stage launch vehicle is undertaken for the dedicated launch of the Compact Advanced Satellite 500 (CAS500)-class satellite into the Low Earth Orbit (LEO) by modifying the second and third stages of the Korean Space Launch Vehicle II (KSLV-II). Since the KSLV-II has three stages, velocity increment is newly distributed for the two-stage small launch vehicle. For this end, the staging design is carried out for the design parameters such as stage mass ratios, structural coefficients and engine options for each stage followed by trajectory analysis. Investigation of the results provides the combination of design parameters for the small launch vehicle for the dedicated launch of 500 kg-class satellite into LEO.

In Naro Space Center, Naro launch vehicle launched 2 times. Launch pad for Naro launch vehicle in Naro space center equipped propellant feeding facility for operating launch process. This paper studied development process and operating method for liquid oxygen filling system of cryogenic propellant systems in launch pad propellant feeding facility.
Successful launch requires state-of-the-art launch vehicle technology and constant test operations, However, the meteorological threat to the launch vehicle flight trajectory is also an important factor for launch success. Atmospheric stability above the Naro Space Center at the this time is very important, especially because the initial flight operation can determine the success of the launch. Moreover, during the flight of launch vehicle with rapid pressure and thrust into the atmosphere, convection activity in the atmosphere may create environmental conditions that cause severe weather threats such as thunderstorms. Hence, studies of atmospheric instability characteristics over the Naro Space Center are a necessary part of successful launch missions. Therefore, the main aims of this study were to (1) verify the atmospheric stability index and convection activity characteristics over the Naro Space Center using radiosonde data observed from 2007 to 2018 by the Naro Space Center, (2) analyze changes in the atmospheric stability index according to monthly and seasonal changes, and (3) assess how the calculated atmospheric stability index is related to actual thunderstorm occurrence using statistical analysis. Additionally, we aimed to investigate the atmospheric characteristics above the Naro Space Center through the distribution chart of the atmospheric stability index during summer, when convection activity is highest. Finally, we assessed the relationship between lightning occurrence and unstable atmospheric conditions, through predictability analysis performed using the lightning observation data of the Korea Meteorological Administration.
In this study, we proposed a water rocket CULV-1 (Chosun University Launch Vehicle-1). Unlike a conventional water rocket, CULV-1 can perform the booster rocket, fairing, and payload separation like an actual launch vehicle and also the imaging data acquisition. The conceptual and critical design of the proposed CULV-1 have been performed considering the operation characteristics. The verification tests have been performed from subsystem to system level in accordance with the established test specifications and verification procedures. Through the final launch test of the flight model, we have verified the design effectiveness of the proposed separation mechanisms for water rocket applications and the mission requirements of the CULV-1 also have been complied.

A practical application of flight-axes/attitude control thrusters to the space launch vehicle and their design development localization are investigated and analyzed. Hydrazine thrusters are mostly used in a final stage of space launch vehicles on account of its higher specific impulse and reliability necessary for the precise attitude control attaining the orbit insertion with higher accuracy.
There is close correlation between the reliability of the launch vehicle and the leakage of the propellants or gases from the launch vehicle. This paper describes the definition of the leak rate to determine the quantity of the leakage and introduce the unit conversion of the leak rate. The main parameters for the leak rate were considered. The requirements for the gaseous for the leak test of launch vehicle and various leak test methods were introduced. Leak test method and procedure used in space launch vehicle were briefly described.

The three neighbors of Korean peninsula, Japan, China, Russia are leading countries of the world as national power and economic power. They are also leading the field of science, particularly top class in the space development. In comparison, our country, Korea, has been going on develop new launch vehicle and building new launch complex in accordance with national space program. In this paper, examining the technical trends of launch complex of Russia and China which based on Russian rocket technologies and it will make a reference for KSLV-II and future space program through this information.

SpaceX is currently leading the global launch market with the successful launch and recovery of Falcon 9 v1.2 Block 5. SpaceX developed Merlin engine, a kerosene gas generator engine, and continuously upgraded the engine from Falcon 1 to Falcon Heavy to increase payload weight. SpaceX suffered a lot of failures early on, but with the help of NASA, it was possible to overcome many crises and develop vehicles. In addition, it successfully developed reusable vehicles, which drastically reduced operating costs. Subsequent launch vehicles in Korea also need to be developed with reference to SpaceX's development strategy.
