  • Purpose: This study focuses on the golden banana (Kluai Hom Thong) from the Ban Khok Banana Community Enterprise Group in Sang Khom District, Udon Thani Province, Thailand. Despite its potential as an export crop and minimal disease or insect management issues, the group's products struggled to reach international markets due to lack of marketing opportunities, distribution channels, and proper packaging. The research aims to analyze and develop packaging and logos to test market potential for the group's products. Research design, data and methodology: Data was collected through questionnaires developed in conjunction with three printing and packaging design experts. Market testing involved 100 randomly sampled consumers of the group's products. Results: The new packaging design was perceived as more international, modern, and suitable as a souvenir for adults. Conclusions: Integrating ethnic elements and local materials into packaging design can enhance product appeal. For example, creating cloth bags from fabric scraps for carrying local woven products can impress consumers. This approach could help overcome market barriers and improve prospects for golden banana products in international markets while maintaining the intact ecosystem and environment of the production area. The study highlights the importance of effective packaging and branding in addressing market access challenges for local agricultural enterprises, potentially opening new opportunities for community-based businesses.

Methodology, this study conducted a literature review and empirical research. We targeted the cultural products carried at twelve web-based shopping malls for Buddhist cultural products and six souvenir shops in Korean Buddhist temples to collect data on those products in order to analyze the items, design motives, materials, and price ranges. The study results showed that interior items represented the largest portion of the targeted goods, followed by accessories/sundries, clothing/fashion items, stationery, and tableware. The most commonly used design motive was lotuses, followed by the images of Buddha or Buddhist Goddesses and Dharma. The most common materials include fibers, jewelry (such as gold and silver), wood, metals, ceramics, paper, and plastic. The most active price range was between KRW10,000 and KRW50,000, followed by less than KRW10,000 and KRW100,000 to less than KRW500,000. This study discovered the potential for traditional temple culture to advance it further in a contemporary manner and indicated the need to develop a wide variety of cultural products and emphasize its global acceptance.

  • The contribution of foreign tourist consumption on national economies is becoming increasingly important for many countries. This study examines the relationship of home-host country psychic distance (HHCPD), tourism shopping motivation and attitudes towards local and global fashion brands in host countries. Survey data from a sample of 500 Chinese tourists were collected at an international airport in Korea. The results reveal that all three key factors of HHCPD (economic, geographic and cultural distance) positively affect social shopping motivation. Moreover, only economic distance has a positive effect on commodity shopping motivation, while both cultural and economic distance positively influence souvenir shopping motivation. All three factors of tourism shopping motivation positively affect local fashion brand attitudes, while only commodity shopping motivation positively affects consumer attitudes towards global fashion brands. Thus, fashion marketers should trigger the shopping motivation of foreign tourists by maximising the psychic distance from their home in order to satisfy fashion-seeking tourists.

  • Cultural commodity is a tourism souvenir for tourists with a high added value in terms of economy. When it excellently represents the region and is based upon its tradition, the positive images of the place can be originated. In this way, the formation of benevolent images has economically considerable effects that can promote the competitive power of the area. The purpose of this study is to develop the pattern design of cultural commodity related to Hampyeong Butterfly Festival. The software to be used is Adobe illustrator CS2, which is a Vector Graphic software, and by utilizing the program, the pattern for the cultural goods will be produced. The forms of the pattern are All over Pattern, which is one of the arrangement methods used the most in a necktie field, and Stripe Pattern. After designing with those two patterns, the design is applied on neckties. Like this, by designing through the Vector Graphic software which we can easily get an access to, the concept of design is visualized; therefore, we can prevent the commodity development that can be conducted out of the concept. By making it possible to visualize the examination by various forms or color mixture, the time is shortened, and throughout reproduction of the object, adjustment of the size, colorway, and reusing or remanufacturing the image, we can check the result of design before hand to reduce the time and expenses required.

  • The recent trend in tourism souvenirs has shifted from traditional products to modern, practical, and budget oriented products. As a result, tourism souvenirs that meet the changing demands of consumers need to be studied and developed. Aprons are one of the most important accessories worn for housework, and are also an important part of uniforms worn at restaurants and hotels. As a result, aprons typify the characteristics of makgeolli - practical products that meet the needs of modern consumers. Therefore, the development of tourism souvenirs targeting tourists that seek Jeonju Makgeolli is expected to bring substantial social and economic benefits. The purpose of the study is to develop designs for aprons for promotional and tourism souvenirs for the Jeonju Makgeolli Research Center. The research has been conducted with a survey on design preferences of aprons, design proposals, production of actual aprons, and selection of the final design. The study is empirical in nature and realistic in scope since it is anticipated that the trial and manufacture of aprons will be commercialized as tourism souvenirs. It is expected that aprons, which can be produced at low cost, will meet the needs of recent consumers who prefer elegant, modern, and practical goods as compared to simple and bland folk crafts or traditional products. More studies and research on the development of designs of aprons as tourism souvenirs is expected to be conducted based on this study.
