  • This article examines Bong Joon-ho's science fiction/horror film, The Host (2006) and interrogates its depiction of a contemporary South Korean family in crisis. The writer considers the film as a resonant cultural artefact and a manifestation of particularly new-millennial anxieties concerned with the continued involvement of the United States in South Korean affairs, fears of an erosion of traditional family values and mistrust of officious, state endorsed bureaucracy. The Host emerges as a profoundly visceral depiction of an ordinary family set against everyone with no one to turn to except each other.

  • With the deepening cooperation between China and South Korea in the field of film, the ways of cooperation between China and South Korea are becoming more and more diversified. "One text, two productions" film cooperation mode refers to the filmmakers of two countries sharing script resources, using the same script to create films separately. South Korean Extreme Job(극한직업) and Chinese Lobster cop(龙虾刑警) are the products of this cooperation model. The scripts of the two films originated from the China and South Korea story joint development plan(중한시나리오공통개발프로젝트) in 2015. After winning the award, the script were filmed by Korean and Chinese filmmakers. Filmmakers in two countries adapted the script to different degrees according to their respective cultural backgrounds and aesthetic characteristics. The film cooperation mode of "One text, two productions" promotes the development of transnational cooperation and opens up a new way of film cooperation.

  • South Korean films narrate exquisitely, express emotions implicitly and employ magnificent images, exemplifying unique oriental aesthetics. This paper takes Along with the Gods: The Two Worlds (2017) as an example to analyze the meaning of oriental aesthetics in South Korean films using the Film Narrative Theory. It is a fantasy blockbuster depicting family kinship stories. It structures with the familiar karma and reincarnation of Asian Buddhism with the core of family kinship. Perfectly interpreting the fantasy world of hell with stunning movie effects, it shows the family kinship of families under the main plot line of a horror film.

  • A glassy carbon electrode (GCE) modified with poly(p-aminobenzene sulfonic acid) [Poly(p-ABSA)] film is fabricated by voltammetric technique in phosphate buffer solution (pH 8.0) containing $5.0\;{\times}\;10^{-3}\;mol\;L^{-1}$p- ABSA. Electrochemical behaviors of tryptophan at the Poly(p-ABSA) film electrode are investigated with voltammetry. The results indicate that the electrochemical response of tryptophan is improved significantly in the presence of poly(p-ABSA) film. Compared with the bare glassy carbon electrode, the Poly(p-ABSA) film electrode remarkably enhances the irreversible oxidation peak current of tryptophan. Some parameters such as voltammetric sweeping segments for the electrochemical polymerization, pH, accumulation potential and accumulation time are optimized. Under the optimal conditions, the oxidation peak current is proportional to tryptophan concentration in the range of $1.0\;{\times}\;10^{-7}$ to $1.0\;{\times}\;10^{-6}\;mol\;L^{-1}$, and $2.0\;{\times}\;10^{-6}$ to $1.0\;{\times}\;10^{-5}\;mol\;L^{-1}$ with a detection limit of $7.0\;{\times}\;10^{-8}\;mol\;L^{-1}$. The proposed procedure is successfully applied to the determination of tryptophan in a commercial amino acid oral solution.

  • Based on the fact that the lubricant molecular is with a chain structure, the physical and mathematical models for the thin film lubrication are set up after the analysis of relationship of the chain length and the film thickness is carried out. The basic equations of fluid mechanics with the rotation terms are used to derive the equivalent Reynolds equation. The results show that the load carrying capacity has a significant increase while the length effect is considered. Finally, the calculated results are compared with the experimental results and they have the same tendency.

  • Under the background of globalization, the borderless nature of film and television language makes the exchange of film as the carrier become an important part of cultural exchanges in various countries. Therefore, film co-production between China and the United States, China and Japan, China and South Korea and other countries has become an important part of the current Chinese film industry. Among them, China and South Korea are close neighbors, and the exchanges between the two countries' films are also increasing. Korean movies have recovered since the 1990s, and they prospered at the beginning of the 21st century, and have formed a unique influence in the international community, especially in crime, suspense, love and other types of films. The co-production of Chinese and Korean films began to appear in 2000, and the signing of the "China-Korea Co-production Film Agreement" in 2014 prompted the rapid convergence of Chinese and Korean film co-productions. However, the co-productions of China and South Korea did not achieve good expectations in terms of communication effects and market evaluation. This article will use the "cultural discount" theory in cross-cultural communication to analyze the reasons for the cultural discounts produced by Chinese and Korean co-productions and how to avoid this phenomenon to the maximum extent.

  • The present study explores the problem of the placelessness and alienation through spaces of redevelopment in South Korean animation film since the 2000's. Actual space in South Korean society has been destroyed and changed unceasingly, and, in that space, humans have experienced existential conflict. While the swift development of digital technology has transcended physical restrictions to form one great network, humans are still limited as materially based beings. The recent steps in South Korean animation film are noteworthy because sociocultural changes since the 1990's and the relationship between the individual and the system are perceived in ways different from those of the past. and , the works analyzed in the present study, reveal the special sense of place in South Korean society, where the destructive reorganization of space leads to the instability of life. By intentionally bypassing a sense of place and the authority automatically bestowed on representational images, these works prompt the viewer to reexamine the relationship between reality and images. Space in these two works are presented representationally but immediately destroyed, and humans or the characters in the works accept this unfeelingly. The loss of place, which is committed by the massive system, and listless humans' weakness and alienation in response are depicted as signs of sociocultural abnormality. By showing the destructive loss of place and individuals who respond with self-anesthesia and self-estrangement, these works open viewers' eyes to South Korean society, where not only social alienation but also self-alienation is occurring. By perceiving South Korean animation film as a sociocultural phenomenon and analyzing it through the concepts of the placelessness and alienation, the present study seeks to expand further discussions on animation film.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine cinematic representations of places in the Korean War films on the event of 1950 'Incheon Landing', focusing on the place representations. 'Incheon Landing' of September 1950 provided a turning point for the Korean War, and the event can be interpreted totally different from the South Korean and the North Korean perspectives. Two films on the same event of the 'Incheon Landing' - a South Korean film, "Incheon Landing Operation"(1965), and a North Korea film, "Wolmido"(1982)- were selected as major sources of analysis and comparison. each director has different intentions. One film was taken from the landing army's viewpoint, whereas the other film was taken from the defender's viewpoint. As a result, one film emphasized the battle as a spectacle of glorious victory from the landing army's viewpoint, while the other film glorified those soldiers killed in the battle as heroes from the defender's viewpoint.

  • Electrochemical behaviors of acetaminophen at a muti-wall carbon nano-tube composite film modified glassy carbon electrode were investigated by cyclic voltammetry, linear sweep voltammetry and chronocoulometry. Compared with that obtained at the unmodified electrode, the peak currents were enhanced significantly, and the oxidation peak shifted towards more negative potential with the reduction peak shifted positively. The peak-to-peak separation turned narrow, and suggested that the reversibility was improved greatly. Experimental parameters, such as scan rate, pH and accumulation conditions were optimized. It was found that a maximum current response can be obtained at pH = 5.0 after accumulation at -0.50 V for 80 s. The oxidation peak current was found to be linearly related to acetaminophen concentration over the range of $5.0{\times}10^{-7}\;\sim\;1.0{\times}10^{-4}$ mol $L^{-1}$ with a detection limit of $5.0{\times}10^{-8} $mol $L^{-1}$. A convenient and sensitive electrochemical method was developed for the determination of acetaminophen in a commercial paracetamol oral solution. Its practical application demonstrated that it has good selectivity and high sensitivity.
