One of the principal sources of vibration and noise in permanent magnetic machines is cogging torque, which is induced by interaction between the rotor poles and the stator teeth. For its analysis, using finite element analysis is very time consuming and the calculation of performance factors is extremely sensitive to the discretization. Especially, Maxwell stress tensor method is sensitive to the location of integral path. In this paper, a cogging permeance fuction is defined and replaced by the straight line. And it is assumed that the flux density acting on the stator's tooth side is the euqal to the flux density of the slot area. Using this definition and assumption, analytical calculation of cogging torque is presented and validated. And several reduction method is introduced.
Trauma remains one of the important sources leading to systemic inflammatory response anti sub-sequent multiple organ failure. Although hepatic microvascular dysfunction occurs during trauma, the mechanism responsible remains unclear. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of trauma on hepatic vascular stress gene expression. Femur fracture (EFx) was induced by torsion to the femur at midshaft. Liver samples were taken for RT-PCR analysis of mRNA for gtenes of interest: endothelin-1 (ET-1), its receptors $ET_A$ and $ET_B$, nitric oxide synthases (iNOS and eNOS), cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1), and tumor necrosis tactor-${\alpha}$ (TNF-${\alpha}$). The expression of ET-1 mRNA was significantly increased by FFx. Expression of mRNA in FFx group showed no change in $ET_A$, $ET_B$, iNOS and HO-1 and showed a slight increase of 2.2-fold and 2.7-fold for eNOS tll1d COX-2, respectively. The level of TNF-${\alpha}$ mRNA significantly increased in FFx group. In conclusion, mild trauma alone causes little change in expression of vasoactive mediators.
The two-dimensional deformation of a homogeneous, isotropic thermoelastic half-space with voids with variable modulus of elasticity and thermal conductivity subjected to thermomechanical boundary conditions has been investigated. The formulation is applied to the coupled theory(CT) as well as generalized theories: Lord and Shulman theory with one relaxation time(LS), Green and Lindsay theory with two relaxation times(GL) Chandrasekharaiah and Tzou theory with dual phase lag(C-T) of thermoelasticity. The Laplace and Fourier transforms techniques are used to solve the problem. As an application, concentrated/uniformly distributed mechanical or thermal sources have been considered to illustrate the utility of the approach. The integral transforms have been inverted by using a numerical inversion technique to obtain the components of displacement, stress, changes in volume fraction field and temperature distribution in the physical domain. The effect of dependence of modulus of elasticity on the components of stress, changes in volume fraction field and temperature distribution are illustrated graphically for a specific model. Different special cases are also deduced.
Foundation settlements(settlements at the embankment surface and ground) has been evaluating to satisfy the strict allowable residual settlement level from the start of the construction of Gyungbu high speed railway. This is because both embankment and ground settlement could be important to minimize the residual settlement after the construction of concrete track. Ground settlement is caused by the increase of effective stress resulting from embankment. The causes of embankment settlement could be come from different sources, for example, the increase of effective stress, rainfall, creep behaviors. Based on the field measured data, this paper analysed the settlement of ground and embankment settlement. The biggest settlement at the embankment surface was 9.7mm during 246days at the STA 000k922.5. The calculated settlement of embankment itself was 8.6mm at the same places. These results conclude that the compressive settlement of embankment could not negligible.
fatigue life and nondestructive evaluation were examined experimentally using surface crack specimen and compact tension specimen of 5083 aluminium alloy. Acoustic emission signals emanated during failure of aluminum alloys has been the subject of numerous investigations. Possible sources of AE during deformation have been suggested as the dislocations, fracture of brittle particles and debonding of these particles from the alloy matrix. Fatigue life and penetration behavior of long surface crack can be evaluated quantitatively using K values proposed by authors. The influence of stress ratio on the frequency characteristics of AE signals were investigated.
Predictive equations of ground motions are one of the most important factors in the seismic hazard analysis. Unfortunately, studies on predictive equations of ground motions in Korea had been hampered due to the lack of seismic data. To overcome the lack of data, seismologists adopted the stochastic method based on the seismological model. Korean predictive equations developed by the stochastic method show large differences in their predictions. It was turned out through the analysis of the existing studies that the main sources of the differences are the uncertainties in the (Brune) stress drop and spectral decay rate . Therefore, it is necessary to focus the future research on the reduction of the uncertainties in the two parameters.
This study examines the father involvement during the infancy period. In order to explore the influence of the father's characteristics, the infant's characteristics and the contextual sources of stress and support on reports of father-infant interaction and paternal responsibility 500 fathers are studied. Results show that fathers in this sample are not regularly involved in the caretaking and the play tasks. The caretaking tasks are most significantly associated with fathers' emotional reaction while indirectly with the first baby, the difficult baby, and the marital satisfaction. The play tasks differ somewhat by their work hours and the marital satisfaction.

The soil-structure interactions are caused by the point sources of explosions, deriving piles, compaction of foundations and excavations those are frequently arose in the construction sites. Thus the analysis of soil-structure interactions is one of the most important subjects in the fields of dynamic analysis and vibration control. From this viewpoint, the aim of this study is to collect the basic data for designing foundation structures throughout understanding the dynamic structural behavior, which is embodied by the dynamic analysis of soil-structure systems. In this study, the dynamic analyses of stiffened thick plates subjected to in-plane stress on elastic foundations are carried out. The foundation is modeled as Pasternak foundation that includes the continuity effect of foundations. Also both the Mindlin plate theory and Timoshenko beam-column theory are used for analyzing the thick plates and beams, respectively.
Sn whiskers are one of the serious causes of the failure of electronics. Sn whiskers grow spontaneously from Sn-based, lead-free finished surfaces, even at room temperature. A primary factor of these Sn whiskers growth is compressive stress, which enhances the diffusion of Sn or other elements. The sources of compressive stress are the growth of non-uniform large intermetallic compounds along the interface between the Sn grain boundary and Cu substrate. Recent studies revealed the methods for reducing Sn whisker growth. This paper gives an overview about recent researches for mitigation methods of Sn whisker growth during nearly room temperature storage.
Reactive oxygen species (ROS) are major sources of cellular oxidative stress. Specifically, cancer cells harbor genetic alterations that promote a continuous and elevated production of ROS. While such oxidative stress conditions could be harmful to normal cells, they facilitate cancer cell growth in multiple ways by causing DNA damage and genomic instability, and ultimately by reprogramming cancer cell metabolism. This review provides up to date findings regarding the roles of ROS generation induced by diverse biological molecules and chemicals in representative women's cancer. Specifically, we describe the cellular signaling pathways that regulate direct or indirect interactions between ROS homeostasis and metabolism within female genital cancer cells.
