침출수 순환형 음식물류 폐기물 혐기성 소화공법에 대한 초기 특성 파악 (Preliminary Evaluation of Leachate Recirculation Anaerobic Digestion System to treat Source Separated Food Waste)

  • 교내 식당에서 분리 수거된 음식물류 폐기물에서 재생 에너지인 메탄가스를 생산하기 위해 혐기성 소화시스템에 대한 연구가 수행되었다. 1차 실험에서 침출수 인발/반송도 없고 혼합도 없는, 침출수 인발/반송은 없고 혼합이 있는, 침출수 인발/반송은 있고 혼합이 없는, 그리고 침출수 인발/반송은 있고 혼합이 있는 4개의 혐기성 시스템에서 침출수 인발/반송은 있고 혼합이 없는 시스템에서 가스발생이 가장 많은 것으로 나타났다. 반응조 혼합이 없고 침출수 인발/반송이 수행되는 시스템에서는 침출수의 반응조 내 침출수 유출속도가 빠른 경우에 혐기성 반응이 활발히 일어난 것으로 관찰되었다. 가스수집기 무게가 1kg이고 음식물류 폐기물 C/N비가 10이상이 되는 경우 혐기성 반응조의 가스가 소모되어 가스수집기에 부압이 걸리는 것이 관찰되었는데, 이에 대한 원인을 밝히는 것이 음식물류 폐기물에서 재생에너지를 회수하는데 필수적이다.

영양교육이 음식물쓰레기 감량화에 미치는 효과 (Effects of Nutrition Education on Food Waste Reduction)

  • This research was performed to evaluate the effects of nutrition education on food waste reduction at school food service. A dietitian conducted nutrition education on environmental protection and proper eating attitude and poor eating habits for 3rd and 5th graders at an elementary school in Seoul. The effectiveness of the education was evaluated by surveying the students before and after the education; 375 responses were analyzed. A questionnaire was designed to compare changes of the students' attitudes and plate waste before and after education. Plate wastes of boiled black rice(p<0.05), potato soup(p<0.05), amaranthus herb salad(p<0.01), and cabbage kimchi(p<0.05) decreased significantly after education. Students' eating attitudes improved significantly(t= -6.22, p<0.01) after nutrition education. Major reasons the students did not eat all foods they were served were large portion sizes (30.59%), low menu preference (29.79%), and tastes (17.82%). The menus with high plate waste rates were cooked vegetable items (35.64%) and soup items (26.6%). After education, students' attitudes on ‘food waste pollutes the Earth(p=0.013)’, ‘food preparation for birthday parties(p<0.01)’, and ‘restaurant selection for eating out (p<0.01)’ changed significantly. After education, plate waste and portion sizes that the students perceived were not negatively correlated. In conclusion, nutrition education on proper eating habits and source reduction is an effective method to reduce food waste generation and to improve students' eating attitudes and awareness on environment.

  • This study presents a rapid and simple ${\alpha}$ source preparation method for a radioactive waste sample. The recovery of $^{239}Pu$, $^{232}U$ and $^{243}Am$ using a micro-coprecipitation method was over 95%. The ${\alpha}$-peak resolution of Pu and Am isotopes through the micro-coprecipitation method is enough to discriminate the Pu and Am isotopes from other Pu and Am isotopes. The determination of the Pu and Am isotopes using the micro-coprecipitation method was applied to the radioactive waste sample, so that the activity concentrations of the Pu and Am isotopes using the micro-coprecipitation method in the radioactive waste sample were similar to those using the electrodeposition method.

  • Recently worldwide concern and research is being actively conducted on green energy which can reduce environmental pollution. A plant such as the natural rapeseed oil, soybean oil, palm, etc. is used as a bio source in home and industry. Biofuels is a sustainable fuel having economically benefits and decreasing environmental pollution problems caused due to fossil fuel, and it can be applied to the conventional diesel engine without changing the existing institutional structure. Waste vegetable oil contains a high cetane number and viscosity component, the low carbon and oxygen content. A lot of research is progressing about the conversion of waste vegetable oil as renewable clean energy. In this study, waste oil was prepared to waste cooking oil generated from the living environment, and applied to diesel engine to confirm the possibility and cost-effectiveness of biodiesel blend waste oil. As a result, brake specific fuel consumption and NOx was increased, carbon monoxide and soot was decreased.

  • It is important to estimate the radiation activity of the nuclear fuel which is a source term of the loss of coolant accident. The purpose of this study is to identify the most important parameters of the source term calculation based on three fuel types: typical natural uranium CANDU fuel, slightly enriched uranium and DUPIC fuel. The characteristics of the radiation source term were analyzed through sensitivity calculations of the linear power, fuel turnup, and the power shape.(omitted)

  • A simulation study was conducted to use city-water which is thermally regulated by unused energy as a heat source for urban dwellings. This study utilized multiple heat pump system using the city-water as a heat source and suggested a method of reducing the heat load of hot water supply. The simulation was done to calculate the energy savings at a dwelling for a year. The relation between the controlled temperature of city-water. and electric energy in all seasons was also investigated. Furthermore, it has been found that the controlled water system can lead to considerable energy savings and decrease environmental load such as sensible waste heat which otherwise would form heat islands.

Radionuclide-Specific Exposure Pathway Analysis of Kori Unit 1 Containment Building Surface

  • Site characterization for decommissioning Kori Unit 1 is ongoing in South Korea after 40 years of successful operation. Kori Unit 1's containment building is assumed to be mostly radioactively contaminated, and therefore radiation exposure management and detailed contamination investigation are required for decommissioning and dismantling it safely. In this study, site-specific Derived Concentration Guideline Levels (DCGLs) were derived using the residual radioactivity risk evaluation tool, RESRAD-BUILD code. A conceptual model of containment building for Kori Unit 1 was set up and limited occupational worker building inspection scenario was applied. Depending on the source location, the maximum contribution source and exposure pathway of each radionuclide were analyzed. The contribution of radionuclides to dose and exposure pathways, by source location, is expected to serve as basic data in the assessment criteria of survey areas and classification of impact areas during further decommissioning and decontamination of sites.

  • Today's rapid industrialization and population concentration in cities lead to a vast economic growth, and consequently, people's increased desire of spending demands abundant and diverse food. As a result in Korea, annual food waste is 4.1 million tons (24.6% of household waste) and daily food waste amount to 11,397 tons which is equivalent to 1,400 loads of 8-ton truck. It is best to recycle toed waste as manure, forage, and fuel than reclamation but separate collection of food waste is very difficult by reason of water content. So only a little portion of food waste from large-scaled restaurants and cafeterias that handle food waste relatively well. requirement for recycling food wastes into forage and manure needless to say, reduction activity is best way. Therefore, large-scaled restaurants and cafeterias need to seek plans to minimize food resource waste thus reducing the cost and waste processing cost by implementing appropriate reduction program.
