  • The characteristics of radiation impedance for piston source on a spherical baffle are analyzed by algorithms which consists of Finite Element Method (FEM) and Hybrid type Infinite Element Method (HIEM). The results of self-radiation impedance for radiation angle and mutual radiation impedance between piston sources coincided with other reports on the spherical rigid baffle. For the spherical non-rigid baffles, the variations of self-radiation impedance and mutual-radiation impedance are identified. Therefore, these results can be applied to design and radiation characteristics analysis of acoustic transducers.

  • We have studied the possibility of global noise reduction by the sound power control through selection of distribution and impedance of absorptive materials. It is necessary to investigate the relation between the global sound energy in the field and the total sound power radiated by sources. In the previous work (1,2), the authors presented a useful design method to change boundary condition that can be useful to reduce noise in acoustically small enclosures. The possibility of total acoustic potential energy reduction by acoustic source power control is examined in an acoustically small cavity. Using acoustic energy balance equation, the relation between global noise control performance and absorptive material's arrangement/impedance is deduced. Numerical simulation is performed to interpret its physical meaning in terms of absorbent's distribution and impedance.

  • In the previous paper, we report a practical floor impact sound level prediction method for a heavyweight impact source(Tire), soft impact source such as children jumping and running. According to these results, the calculated value and the measured value correspond comparatively well, regardless of differences in the floor structures. And the floor impact sound for a heavyweight impact source, soft source was strongly influenced by structural factors such as floor slab stiffness and peripheral support conditions. But the floor impact sound for a light impact source (Tapping machine), hard impact source was influenced by resilient layers, composed of multi-layer in floor structures. Thus, In this paper, 4 actual floor structures, all with differing resilient layers, were calculated using impedance method. When these calculation values were compared with the measured values, approximately all the values fell with one rank of the sound insulation grade, reference curve(L curve) by the JIS standard. So, a sample of measured values and calculated values from floor structures is presented to show the accuracy and appropriateness of the impedance method in domestic.

  • An active virtual impedance algorithm is newly proposed to track a sound source and to avoid obstacles while a mobile robot is following the sound source. The tracking velocity of a mobile robot to the sound source is determined by virtual repulsive and attraction forces to avoid obstacles and to follow the sound source, respectively. Active virtual impedance is defined as a function of distances and relative velocities to the sound source and obstacles from the mobile robot, which is used to generate the tracking velocity of the mobile robot. Conventional virtual impedance methods have fixed coefficients for the relative distances and velocities. However, in this research the coefficients are dynamically adjusted to elaborate the obstacle avoidance performance in multiple obstacle environments. The relative distances and velocities are obtained using a microphone array consisting of three microphones in a row. The geometrical relationships of the microphones are utilized to estimate the relative position and orientation of the sound source against the mobile robot which carries the microphone array. Effectiveness of the proposed algorithm has been demonstrated by real experiments.

  • The parameters of Debye's equation were applied to analyze the frequency-dependent ground impedance of horizontally-buried wires. We present a new method, based on Debye's equation, of analyzing the effect of polarization on frequency-dependent ground impedance. The frequency-dependent ground impedances of a horizontally-buried wire are directly measured and calculated by applying sinusoidal current in the frequency range of 100 Hz to 10 MHz. Also, the results obtained in this work were compared with the data calculated from empirical equations and commercial programs. A new methodology using the delta-gap source model is proposed in order to calculate frequency-dependent ground impedance when the ground current is injected at the middle-point of the horizontal ground electrode. The high frequency ground impedance of horizontal electrodes longer than 30 m is larger or equal to its low frequency ground resistance. Consequently, the frequency-dependent ground impedance simulated with the proposed method is in agreement with the experimental data, and the validity of the computational simulation approach is confirmed.

  • New formulas for the minimum noise figure and the optimum source impedance of microwave FETs are derived using the noise equivalent circuits obtained from the steady-state Nyquist theorem for multi-terminal semiconductor devices. The derived formulas manifest the relationships between the noise sources and the physical parameters of a noise equivalent circuit. Furthermore the formulas can explain the effect of gate leakage current on the minimum noise figure and the optimum source impedance. comparisons with the published experimental data confirm the validity and usability of our formula.

  • This paper presents a novel topology named a modified capacitor-assisted Z-source inverter (MCA-ZSI) based on the traditional ZSI. The impedance network of the proposed MCA-ZSI consists of two symmetrical cells coupled with two capacitors with an X-shape structure, and each cell has two inductors, two capacitors, and one diode. Compared with other topologies based on switched ZSI with the same number of components used at impedance network, the proposed topology provides higher boost ability, lower voltage stress across inverter switching devices, and lower capacitor voltage stress. The improved performances of the proposed topology are demonstrated in the simulation and experimental results.

  • We have introduced a new approach to obtain the conductivity information of subsurface using Cagniard impedance over two-dimensional (2-D) model in the presence of horizontal magnetic dipole source with the frequency range of $1\;kHz\~1\;MHz$. Firstly, we designed the method to calculate the apparent resistivity from the ratio between horizontal electric and magnetic fields, Cagniard impedance, considering the source effects when the plane wave assumption is failed in finite source EM problem, and applied it to several numerical models such as homogeneous half-space or layered-earth model. It successfully provided subsurface information even though it is still rough, while the one with plane wave assumption is hard to give useful information. Next, through analyzing Cagniard impedance and apparent resistivity considering source effect over 2-D models containing conductive- or resistive-block, we showed that the possibility of obtaining conductivities of background media and anomaly using this approach. In addition, the apparent resistivity considering source effect and phase pseudosections constructed from Cagniard impedance over the isolated conductive- and resistive block model well demonstrated outlines of anomalies and conductivity distribution even though there were some distortions came from sidelobes caused by 2-D body.

  • Due to space and geographical constraints, the power source may be located outside the island area, resulting in the considerable length of transmission line. In these cases, when an active power is transmitted, unexpected reactive power is generated at a point of common coupling (PCC). Unlike the power transmitted from the power generation source, the reactive power adversely affects the system. This study proposes a new algorithm that controls reactive power at PCC. Causes of reactive power errors are separated into parallel and series components, which allows the algorithm to compensate the reactive current of the inverter output and control reactive power at the PCC through calculations from the impedance, voltage, and current. The proposed algorithm has economic advantages by controlling the reactive power with the inverter of the power source itself, and can flexibly control power against voltage and output variations. Through the simulation, the algorithm was verified by implementing a power source of 3 [kVA] capacity connected to the low voltage system and of 5 [MVA] capacity connected to the extra-high voltage system. Furthermore, a power source of 3 [kVA] capacity inverter is configured and connected to a mock grid, then confirmed through experiments.

  • A detailed analysis of the transistor wide-band feedback amplifiers using the hybrid-$\pi$ equivalent circuit has been made. It is considered both for the low freqnency and for the high frequency. The expressions of the gain, bandwidth. input impedance and output impedance have been presented. It is shown that a series feedback amplifier should be driven from the voltage source and should drive into the low resistance load, and a shunt feedback amplifier should be driven from the current source and should drive into the high resistance load. It is also shown that these stages can be coupled without use of the buffer stage or coupling transformer.
