  • Recently, an importance of culture industry has been emphasized through an increased income level, spare time and changed values of modern people. And demands of the performance, arts, exhibit are steadily being increased. However the stage equipment depends on foreign manufactures on account of the inactive domestic technical skills. Especially in the lighting direction part, it is essential to control the lighting source and detect the moving line of actors but it generally uses the manual control type and realization of actor's moving line regardless of existing IT-based technologies. Also the system operation of existing sensor-based tracking and detecting technologies depends on the main lighting source of the stage. Therefore, this paper proposed LED lighting control system using the variable FOV and multi sensor-based tracking algorithm, which are possible to efficiently track the stage actors and direct the stage lights. Also we demonstrated the practicality and possibility of realization through the integrated experiment of the proposed system and implementation of the salient hardware, software. Additionally, the usefulness of proposed system was demonstrated using performance simulations and actual measurements of implemented sensor output.

  • Objectives: Pine needles were used as a passive air sampler (PAS) of atmospheric persistent organic pollutants (POPs). This study was performed to investigate concentrations of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and dibenzofurans (PCDD/Fs) deposited on pine needles near a waste incinerator and PCDD/Fs source contributions using principal component analysis (PCA). Methods: Two-year-old pine needles were sampled at 11 points with respect to distance and wind direction from the incinerator. PCDD/Fs deposited on pine needles were analyzed with HRGC/HRMS. The source contribution of PCA was calculated with SPSS. Results: The average concentration of PCDD/Fs deposited on pine needle was 0.79 (0.27-1.76) pg TEQ/g dry, PCDDs with 0.24 (0.01-0.95) pg TEQ/g dry and PCDFs with 0.56 (0.27-0.82) pg TEQ/g dry, respectively. The average concentration fraction of PCDDs was 29.7%, that of PCDFs was 70.3%, and PCDFs were more prevalent than PCDDs. The contributions of PCDD/Fs sources were estimated as incineration at 58.3% and automobiles at 28.4%. However, a relation and regulation between PCDD/Fs concentrations deposited on pine needles and distance from incinerator or wind direction was not shown. Conclusion: It was concluded that atmospheric PCDD/Fs concentrations near an industrial complex with a waste incinerator were affected by multiple sources. However, PCDD/Fs concentrations were lower than in other inland cities with the exception of background area.

  • This paper proposes a fast subspace tracking methods, which is called GVFF FAPI, based on FAPI (Fast Approximated Power Iteration) method and GVFF RLS (Gradient-based Variable Forgetting Factor Recursive Lease Squares). Since the conventional FAPI uses a constant forgetting factor for estimating covariance matrix of source signals, it has difficulty in applying to non-stationary environments such as continuously changing DOAs of source signals. To overcome the drawback of conventioanl FAPI method, the GVFF FAPI uses the gradient-based variable forgetting factor derived from an improved means square error (MSE) analysis of RLS. In order to achieve the decreased subspace error in non-stationary environments, the GVFF-FAPI algorithm used an improved forgetting factor updating equation that can produce a fast decreasing forgetting factor when the gradient is positive and a slowly increasing forgetting factor when the gradient is negative. Our numerical simulations show that GVFF-FAPI algorithm offers lower subspace error and RMSE (Root Mean Square Error) of tracked DOAs of source signals than conventional FAPI based MUSIC (MUltiple SIgnal Classification).

  • The human auditory system has been shown to posses remarkable abilities in the localization and tracking of sound sources. The localization is the result of processing two primary acoustics cues. These are the interaural time difference(ITD) cues and interaural intensity difference(IID) cues at the two ears. In this paper, we propose TEPILD(Time Energy Previous Integration Location Detector) model. TEPILD model is constructed with time function generator, energy function generator, previous location generator and azimuth detector. Time function generator is to process ITD and energy function generator is to process IID. Total average accuracy rate is 99.2%. These result are encouraging and show that proposed model can be applied to the sound source location detector.

  • This paper proposes a power conditioning system (PCS) for distributed photovoltaic (PV) applications using an asymmetric cascaded multilevel inverter with a single PV source. One of the main disadvantages of the cascaded multilevel inverters in PV systems is the requirement of multiple isolated DC sources. Using multiple PV strings leads to a compromise in either the voltage balance of individual H-bridge cells or the maximum power point tracking (MPPT) operation due to localized variations in atmospheric conditions. The proposed PCS uses a single PV source with a flyback DC-DC converter to facilitate a reduction of the required DC sources and to maintain the voltage balance during MPPT operation. The flyback converter is used to provide input for low-voltage H-bridge cells which processes only 20% of the total power. This helps to minimize the losses occurring in the proposed PCS. Furthermore, transient analyses and controller design for the proposed PCS in both the stand-alone mode and the grid-connection mode are presented. The feasibility of the proposed PCS and its control scheme have been tested using a 1kW hardware prototype and the obtained results are presented.

  • The integration of photovoltaic (PV) energy sources into DC grid has gained considerable attention because of its enhanced conversion efficiency with reduced number of power conversion stages. During the integration process, a local control unit is normally included with every power conversion stage of the PV source to accomplish the process of maximum power point tracking. A centralized monitoring and supervisory control unit is required for monitoring, power management, and protection of the entire system. Therefore, we propose a field-programmable gate array (FPGA) based centralized control unit that integrates all local controllers with the centralized monitoring unit. The main focus of this study is on the process of integrating many local control units into a single central unit. In this paper, we present design and optimization procedures for the hardware implementation of FPGA architecture. Furthermore, we propose a transient analysis and control design methodology with consideration of the nonlinear characteristics of the PV source. Hardware experiment results verify the efficiency of the central control unit and controller design.

  • In this paper, dc-link voltage control of a grid-connected QZSI is presented. Since the input current of the ZSI is discontinuous, a capacity with relatively large capacitance should be connected to the output of the PV array in order to reduce the current ripple. Due to the presence of the impedance network inductor in series with the PV array, the QZSI can achieve continuous input current flow. Several dc-link voltage control methods are compared and the method for power quality improvement is also presented. The performance of the proposed method is verified through both simulation and experimental results.

  • This paper proposes an approach to search for the odor source using an autonomous mobile robot equipped with vision and odor sensors. The robot is initially navigating around the specific area with vision system until it looks for an object in the camera image. The robot approaches the object found in the field of view and checks it with the odor sensors if it is releasing odor. If so, the odor is classified and localized with the classification algorithm based on neural network The AMOR(Autonomous Mobile Olfactory Robot) was built up and used for the experiments. Experimental results on the classification and localization of odor sources show the validity of the proposed algorithm.

  • This paper implements a simultaneous solar and thermal energy harvesting system, as a hybrid energy harvesting (HEH) system, to convert ambient light into electrical energy through photovoltaic (PV) cells and heat absorbed in the body of PV cells. Indeed, a solar panel equipped with serially connected thermoelectric generators not only converts the incoming light into electricity but also takes advantage of heat emanating from the light. In a conventional HEH system, the diode block is used to provide the path for the input source with the highest value. In this scheme, at each time, only one source can be handled to generate its output, while other sources are blocked. To handle this challenge of combining resources in HEH systems, this paper proposes a method for collecting all incoming energies and conveying its summation to the load via the current mirror cells in an approach similar to the maximum power point tracking. This technique is implemented using off-the-shelf components. The measurement results show that the proposed method is a realistic approach for supplying electrical energy to wireless sensor nodes and low-power electronics.
