PSD sensor is used to measure the position the position of and incidence light in real-time. To get the position of light source of moving target, a new parameter calibration algorithm and neural network technique are proposed and applied. Real-time position measurements of the mobile robot with light source is examined to validate the proposed method. It is shown that the proposed technique provides accurate position estimation of the moving object.

  • Position estimation of a sound source based on time difference of arrival at an array of three acousto-optic sensors is introduced. Each sensor consists of a Mach-Zehnder interferometer including a sensing part in one arm that is a piece of fiber surrounded by membrane in order to enhance the acousto-optic effect. Estimation error of a recorded gunshot sound signal was evaluated with the theoretically calculated values for two different locations.

  • In this paper, we propose a new method to estimate the initial DOA of a new appearing source in wideband multisource beamforming and tacking with array sensor position calibration algorithm. By using a beampattern formula for initial DOA detection, the proposed method keeps estimation error within possible tracking range and can be applied to several beamformers with different mainlobe width by adjusting DOA resolution. The simulation results show the performances of source detection and tracking.

  • The aim of the work described in this paper is to develop a complex underground acoustic system which detects and localizes the origin of an underground hammering sound using an array of hydrophones located about loom underground. Three different methods for the sound localization will be presented, a time-delay method, a power-attenuation method and a hybrid method. In the time-delay method, the cross correlation of the signals received from the array of sensors is used to calculate the time delays between those signals. In the power-attenuation method, the powers of the received signals provide a measure of the distances of the source from the sensors. In the hybrid method, both informations of time-delays and power-ratios are coupled together to produce better performance of position estimation. A new acoustic imaging technique has been developed for improving the hybrid method. This new acoustic imaging method shows the multi-dimensional distribution of the normalized cost function, so as to indicate the trend of the minimizing direction toward the source location. For each method the sound localization is carried out in three dimensions underground. The distance between the true and estimated origins of the source is 28m for a search area of radius 250m.

  • In this paper, we propose a maximum-likelihood estimation(MLE) method to obtain the location and the amplitude of the pulses in MPE( multi-pulse excitation)-LPC speech synthesis using multi-pulses as excitation source. This MLE method computes the value maximizing the likelihood function with respect to unknown parameters(amplitude and position of the pulses) for the observed data sequence. Thus in the case of overlapped pulses, the method is equivalent to Ozawa's crosscorrelation method, resulting in equal amount of computation and sound quality with the cross-correlation method. We show by computer simulation: the multi-pulses obtained by MLE method are(1) pseudo-periodic in pitch in the case of voicde sound, (2) the pulses are random for unvoiced sound, (3) the pulses change from random to periodic in the interval where the original speech signal changes from unvoiced to voiced. Short time power specta of original speech and syunthesized speech obtained by using multi-pulses as excitation source are quite similar to each other at the formants.

  • We present an analytic solution to the projector pose estimation problem for the pinhole projection model in which the source image is a centered rectangle with an unknown aspect ratio. From a single quadrilateral given as a target image, our solution gives the position and orientation of a projector as well as the aspect ratio of a source image. The proposed method decomposes the problem into two pose estimation problems of coupled line projectors aligned at each diagonal of the given quadrilateral and then computes the common solution that satisfies the relevant geometric constraints. The solution is formulated as simple analytic equations. We also provide a determinant of projectability of an arbitrary quadrilateral.

  • SSL (Sound Source Localization) has been applied to several applications such as man-machine interface, video conference system, smart car and so on. But in the process of sound source localization, angle estimation error is occurred mainly due to the non-linear characteristics of the sine inverse function. So an approach was proposed to decrease the effect of this non-linear characteristics, which divides the microphone's covering space into narrow regions. In this paper, we proposed an optimal space dividing way according to the pattern of microphone array. In addition, sound source's 2-dimensional position is estimated in order to evaluate the performance of this dividing method. In the experiment, GCC-PHAT (Generalized Cross Correlation PHAse Transform) method that is known to be robust with noisy environments is adopted and triangular pattern of 3 microphones and rectangular pattern of 4 microphones are tested with 100 speech data respectively. The experimental results show that triangular pattern can't estimate the correct position due to the lower space area resolution, but performance of rectangular pattern is dramatically improved with correct estimation rate of 67 %.

  • TDOA(time delay of arrival) position estimate from acoustic measurement of artillery shell impact is studied in order to develop a targeting evaluation system. Impact position is calculated from the intersections of hyperbolic estimates based on the least square Taylor series method. The mathematical process of Taylor series estimation is known to be robust. However, the concern lays with the accuracy because it is sensitive to the bias caused by the randomness of measurement situation. The measurement error typically occurs from the distortion of waveform, change of travelling path, and sensor position error. For outdoor measurement, a consideration should be made on the atmospheric condition such as temperature and wind which can possibly change the trajectories of rays of sound. It produces wrong propagation time events accordingly. Ray tracing and optimization techniques are introduced in this study to minimize the bias induced by the ray of sound. The numerical simulation shows that the atmospheric correction improves the estimation accuracy.
