Control of the Casting Defects in the Gravity Tilt Pour Casting Process (경동식 중력주조법에 의한 주조결함 제어)

  • Gravity tilt pour casting can effectively guarantee the reduction of various casting defects by controlling the rotation speed and the tilting angle of the mold during tilt pouring. The relationship between casting process parameters and the soundness of castings has been investigated in order to determine the optimum process variables in the gravity tilt pour casting process. In order to evaluate the effect of rotation speed on mold filling patterns, a video camera was employed to visualize the in-situ fluid flow behavior of the molten metal, and the relevant fluid velocity was also estimated. X-ray and mechanical tests were also performed to evaluate the effect of fluid velocity on casting quality. With the rotation speed lower than 0.5 r.p.m., which is nearly corresponding to the critical velocity of stability in the fluid flow, sound castings were obtained without having any casting defects. It can be concluded that the gravity tilt pour casting process is an effective process for manufacturing sound casting products with enhanced physical and mechanical properties.

  • In this research, the relationship between physical measurements and subjective evaluations of floor impact noise in apartment building was quantified by applying the neural network analysis due to its complex and nonlinear characteristics. The neural network analysis was undertaken by setting up L-value, inverse A index, Zwicker parameters and ACF/IACF factors, as input data, which came from the measurements at real suites of apartment building having various sound insulations.   • A centrifugal fan design code was developed and packaged together with iDesignFan/sup TM/ as new models. This code generate centrifugal forward curved and backward curved bladed impeller optimally. It also predicts the aerodynamic performance and the overall sound pressure level of the rotating fan by assuming steady blade loading. The overall sound pressure level is used as an input parameter from the third loop of the designing process to acquire the most silent fan for the given aerodynamic performance parameters. With this kind of inverse design concept used in the code, the period of designing a fan is significantly shortened. A centrifugal fan design code, developed in this study and included in iDesignFan/sup TM/, predicts the aerodynamic performance such as design flow rate and static pressure. The aerodynamic performance in the design and off-design conditions is calculated by using the mean line analysis. For the steady loading calculation, the lift force distribution in a blade is used.

  • The importance of insulating material becomes greater recently in order to attain a quieter life style amidst today's sound noise such as transportation, industrial machinery.   • The background noise and transmission loss of wall were measured on site for the multiplex cinema. The results from the simulation analysis was compared with the measurements from the site for different frequencies to review the acoustical parameters, and the analysis results in the relatively small error. Therefore, it is concluded that the reliable estimation can be made once accurate data such as sound source and sound absorption coefficient of interior material is utilized during the simulation process. However, the calibration is necessary for the test room with the small room volume.

  • An Electric motor is used for user-friendly equipment in vehicles. In this paper, an electric motor for windows is considered for the tunning of engineering inspection concerned with noise level from it. Noise from the electric window motor is a kind of structure-borne noise and becomes a reference parameter for its engineering performance. Estimation of noise from the motors shows the quantitative values such as overall noise. Noise level at each frequency and the qualitative figures for the transient characteristics of sound are also revealed. The loudness level, one of the qualitative parameters, distinguishes the performances of every components by the comparison of its magnitude. In summary, it is found that the qualitative comparisons become useful means for the inspection of electric motors.

  • This paper is to experimentally investigate the effect of the through-flow and grazing-flow on the absorption performance of a perforated plate system. The experiment is performed through the systematic change of the through-flow velocity, grazing-flow velocity, incident sound pressure level, and the geometrical parameters such as the porosity and hole diameter. From the experimental results, it is found that for the nonlinear relationship between the acoustic resistance and incident sound pressure level there is no influence of the through-flow on the absorption performance, but fur the linear relationship between them there is a strong dependence of the absorption performance on the through-flow velocity. It is also shown that the absorption performance is controllable by changing the porosity and hole-diameter in size.

  • Fault diagnosis of an assembled small motor relies usually on human experts hearing ability. The quality of diagnosis depends, however, heavily on physical conditions of the human experts. A fault diagnosis system for assembled small motors is developed using artificial neural network (ANN) in this paper. It is consisted of sound sampling device and fault diagnosis software package. Six parameters are defined to characterize the sampled sound waves. The Levenberg-Marquardt Backpropagation (LMBP) Algorithm is used to diagnose the fault of assembled small motors. Experimental results for more than two hundred small motors verify the performance of the developed system.

  • The prediction of sound pressure using acoustic holography has been recognized as a useful tool for the visualization of sound field. Cylindrical acoustic holography amongst acoustic holographic methods planar, spherical, and cylindrical ones-has a wide range of application since its rather simple construction and easy implementation for the sources. To utilize the propery of cylindrical holographic method, estimation errors associated with holographic parameters such as aperture size and sampling space must be envisaged. In this these errors have been studied by numerical simulation and the relation between the errors and the spectrum in wavenumber domain is described. The results are also confirmed by simple experiments.

  • This paper describes the methodology for environmental assessments of traffic noise sources. An attempt is made to establish evaluation scale relationships between noise quality Parameters and subjective degrees annoyance. Subjective experimental was conducted to determine the subjective degrees annoyance that scaling score compare with reference and varieties noise source about modified traffic noises with $40{\sim}85dB$. Also a correlation analysis between noise rating index and satisfactory percentage of the noise dose response curves varied with response was conducted. As a result of study, subjective annoyance degree has not correlation of proportional linearity to the A weight noise level, but has correlation of proportional linearity to the index composed to loudness and tonality. It is suggested to be resonable level 4.9 (equivalence about 53dB) index on the out door noise limits for traffic noise and to be 6 step scale base on the linearity for evaluation traffic noise.
