On the basis of theoretical studies on the effect of the cylinders attached to semi-infinite screens, the effect of the tangential sound power-transport along the cylindrical top section of noise barriers is studied. Four types of acoustical mechanism between the surface of the cylinder and the adjacent air particles are investigated, namely Z $\rightarrow$$\infty$, Z $\rightarrow$ pc, Z $\rightarrow$ 0 and actively controlled surface sound field. In active control case the sound power parallel to the surface of the attached cylinder is minimized by means of a secondary sound field, which is generated from a part of the attached cylinder. In each case the change in the acoustical shadow zone was shown and compared. The numerical study shows the possibility of deflecting the incident sound by minimizing the acoustical surface impedance of the upper sections.
The active noise control (ANC) technique attenuates acoustic noise in a flexible and effective way. Traditional ANC design aims to minimize the residual noise energy, which is indiscriminative in the frequency domain. However, human hearing perception exhibits selective sensitivity for different frequency ranges. In this paper, we aim to improve the noise attenuation performance in perceptual perspective by incorporating noise weighting into ANC design. We also introduce psychoacoustic analysis to evaluate the sound quality of the residual noise by using a predictive pleasantness model, which combines four psychoacoustic parameters: loudness, sharpness, roughness, and tonality. Simulations on synthetic random noise and realistic noise show that our method improves the sound quality and that ITU-R 468 noise weighting even performs better than A-weighting.
In the development of electricity generating wind turbines for wind farm application, only two types have survived as the methods of power regulation; stall regulation and full span pitch control. The main purpose of this paper is to experimentally identify the characteristics of noise emission of wind turbines according to the power regulation types. The sound measurement procedures of IEC 61400-11 are applied to field test and evaluation of noise emission from each of 1.5 MW and 660 kW wind turbines (WT) utilizing the stall regulation and the pitch control for the power regulation, respectively. Apparent sound power level, wind speed dependence, third-octave band levels and tonality are evaluated for both of WTs. It is observed that equivalent continuous sound pressure levels (ECSPL) of the stall control type of WT continue to increase with increasing wind speed whereas those of the pitch control type of WT show less correlation with wind speed. These observed characteristics are believed to be due to the different airflow patterns around the blade between the stall regulation and the pitch control types of WT; the airflow on the suction side of blade in the stall types of WT are separated at the high wind speed. It is also found that the 1.5 MW WT using the stall control emits lower sound power than 660 kW one using the pitch control at wind speeds below 8m/s, whereas sound power of the former becomes higher than that of the latter in the wind speed over 8m/s. This wind-speed dependence of sound power leads to the very different noise omission characteristics of WTs depending on the seasons because the average wind speed in summer is lower than 8m/s whereas that in summer is higher. Based on these experimental observations, it is proposed that, in view of environmental noise regulation, the developer of wind farm should give enough considerations to the choice of power regulation of their WTG based on the weather conditions of potential wind farm locations.
The absorbing material is mostly used to changing the acoustic energy to the heat energy in the passive control, and that consists of the porous media. That controls an air borne noise while the stiffened plates, damping material and additional mass control a structure borne noise. The additional mass can decrease the sound by mass effect and shift of natural frequency, and damping material can decrease the sound by damping effect. The passive acoustic control using these kinds of control materials has an advantage that is possible to control the acoustic in the wide frequency band and the whole space at a price as compared with the active control using the various electronic circuit and actuator. But the space efficiency decreased and the control ability isn't up to the active control. So it is necessary to maximize the control ability in the specific frequency to raise the capacity of passive control minimizing the diminution of space efficiency such an active control. Therefore, the characteristics of control materials and the optimum layout of control materials that attached to the boundary of structure-acoustic coupled cavity were studied using sequential optimization on this study.
Sound pressure and particle velocity are the most essential quantities prescribing a sound field; they correspond to voltage and electric current respectively, in electric system. As electric power is the product of voltage and electric current, sound intensity is the product of sound pressure and particle velocity and it means the acoustic power passing through a unit area in a sound field. Although the definition of sound intensity is very simple as mentioned above, the method of measuring this quantity has not been realized for a long time, because it has been very difficult to measure the particle velocity simultaneously with the sound pressure. Owing to the recent development of such technologies as transducer production and digital signal processing, it has finally been realized. According to the sound intensity(SI) method, the sound power flow in an arbitrary sound field can be directly measured as a vector quantify. In this paper, the principle of the SI method is briefly explained at first and some examples of its application made in the author's laboratory are introduced.
A sound-masking technique was applied to the urban public spaces with multiple noises in order to reduce the annoyance of the construction and traffic noise. In addition, the effects of masking system were investigated in order to improve the soundscape. In several urban spaces, building construction and nearby road traffic noise were recorded using a head and torso simulator and sound quality (SQ) system which specifies the spectral and temporal aspects of the noises. The sound-masking system which consists of the distributed speakers and control devices was applied to the boundaries of the construction sites. Synthesized masking sounds were produced with consideration of SQ characteristics of the multiple noise. Subjective evaluations on the soundscape were conducted to verify effectiveness of the system under the conditions with and without the masker sounds.
Sound absorptive materials have good performance in high frequency range, not at low frequencies. Therefore it has been great challenge to develop a sound absorbing structure that is good at low frequency. We propose to use a Helmholtz resonator array panel for this purpose. A Helmholtz resonator is one of noise control elements widely used in many practical applications. The resonator is a simple structure composed of a rigid-walled cavity with a neck, but it has very high performance at resonance frequency. This paper discusses the sound absorption of Helmholtz resonator array panels at normal and random incidence. First, various experimental results are introduced and studied. Secondly, we theoretically predict the absorptive characteristics of the resonator away panel. The theoretical approach is based on the Fourier analysis for a periodic absorber. We believe that this method can be used to design a panel for low frequency noise control.
Active mufflers have been mainly applied in the large industrial engine due to considerable expense for implementation, but a necessity of development has been increased by the tightened regulation of exhaust noise and the request of high power. In this study, the active muffler prototype for installing in an automobile is designed and constructed. The active muffler is designed so that the primary noise and the control sound are propagated as a plane wave in the outlet. Therefore, the error microphone could be placed outside the high temperature centers of the tail pipe, and the noise radiating to the outside could be reduced in the whole areas around the outlet. For evaluating the control performance of the prototype, the control experiments of band-pass filtered random signal and the modulation of sinusoidal signal which are generated from the primary noise speaker as practical exhaust sound level are implemented. And to investigate the radiation pattern from the outlet of tail pipe and the noise reduction level of points placed adjacent to the outlet, the sound level of adjacent points of thirty is measured.
The possibility of global noise reduction by the sound power control through selection of distribution and impedance of absorptive materials is discussed. It is necessary to investigate the relation between the global sound energy in the field and the total sound power radiated by sources. In the previous work,$^{(1.2)}$ the authors presented a useful design method to change boundary condition that can be useful to reduce noise in acoustically small enclosures. Changing boundary condition Is related to not only enclosure’s geometrical shape but also acoustical treatment on walls for example, attaching of impedance patches (ex: absorptive material). In many practical situations, we often meet situation to change acoustical treatment on walls. The possibility of total acoustic potential energy(globa1 noise) reduction by acoustic source power control is examined in an acoustically small cavity Using acoustic energy balance equation, the relation between global noise control performance and absorptive material’s arrangement/impedance is deduced. Numerical simulation is performed to interpret its physical meaning in terms of absorbent’s distribution and impedance.
실험은 두 가지 Case(덕트 내 전파 소음, 외부 자유 음장 방사 소음)로 실행되었다.
