With the advent of sound field simulator, many sound fields have been reproduced by obtaining the impulse responses of specific acoustic spaces like famous concert hall, opera house. This sound field reproduction has been done by the linear convolution operation between the sound input signal and the impulse response of certain acoustic space. However, the conventional finite impulse response based linear convolution operation always makes real-time implementation of sound field generator impossible due to the large amount of computational burden. This paper introduces the fast convolution method using perceptual redundancy in the processed signals, input audio signal and room impulse response. Temporal and spectral psycho-acoustic filters considering masking effects are implemented in the proposed convolution structure. It reduces the computational burden of convolution methods for realtime implementation of a sound field generator. The conventional convolutions are compared with the proposed one in views of computational burden and sound quality. In the proposed method, a considerable reduction in the computational burden was realized with acceptable changes in sound quality.

The brand sound of vehicle diesel engine is recently one of the important advantage strategies in the automotive company. Because various noise components masked under high frequency level can be audible in quieter driving situation. Many researches have been carried out for subjective and objective assessments on vehicle sounds and noises. In particular, the interior sound quality has been one of research fields that can give high quality feature to vehicle products. Vehicle interior noise above 500 Hz is usually controlled by sound package parts. The materials and geometries of sound package parts directly affect on this high frequency noise. This paper describes the sound quality evaluation method for the vehicle diesel engine noise to establish objective criteria for sound quality assessment. Considering the sensitivity of human hearing to impulsive sounds such as diesel noise, the human auditory mechanism was simulated by introducing temporal masking in the time domain. Furthermore, each of the human auditory organs was simulated by computer codes, providing reasonable analytical explanations of typical human hearing responses to diesel noise. This method finally provides the sound quality index of vehicle diesel engine noise that includes high frequency intermittent offensive sounds caused by impacting excitations of combustion and piston slap.

The introduction of the sound based on the soundscape concept has the effect to offer comfortable sound environments at the public spaces by masking undesired ones and to identify the spaces. Sound installation, sound sculptor and the soundscape are used for these purpose, but the most important factors to be considered therein are to determine what kind of sounds to offer and how to adjust them to the changing circumstances. But, installing, maintaining and adjusting the soundscape system directly in the field will ensue numerous problems as well as high costs. And, even if it was epochal and novel when the soundscape is first installed at a space, new different sound environment is necessary to continue the effectiveness as time goes. Thus, this study aims at devising the instrument system that has the artificial intelligence, enables to remote control, with a great ease, numerous variables, reproduce most agreeable sound sources, and can produce the proper sound fit to the space automatically and spontaneously.

An experiment was carried out to obtain the fundamental data on the auditory thresholds of fishes for catching method using audible frequency sound, the auditory thresholds of dusky spinefoot Siganus fuscescens(Houttuyn) were measured in the presence of masking noise in the spectrum level range of 74 - 83dB re $1{\mu}Pa/{\sqrt{Hz}}$ by heartbeat conditioning technique using pure tones coupled with a delayed electric shock. The auditory critical ratios were about 23 - 34dB at measurement frequency range. The ratio increased almost linearly with increasing frequency from 200 to 500Hz. The noise spectrum level at the start of masking was about 61 - 73dB within the measurement frequency range. This suggests that hearing of dusky spinefoot is masked in the natural environment with the noise spectrum level above 70dB. The sound pressure level of which the signal sound of 100Hz is recognized by dusky spinefoot under the white noise of 70dB is above 98dB and the critical ratio of them is above 23dB.
Developing base data on luring fish schools into netting position by the use of underwater audible sound on japanese parrot fish Oplegnathus fasciatus found in the coastal waters of Jeju Island, S. Korea. Auditory threshold was determined by the heartbeat condition technique using pure tones coupled with a delayed electric shock. The audible range of japanese parrot fish extended from 80 Hz to 500 Hz with a peak sensitivity at 200 Hz. The mean auditory thresholds at the frequencies of 80 Hz, 100 Hz, 200 Hz,300 Hz and 500 Hz were 104 dB, 95 dB, 91 dB, 99 dB and 113 dB, respectively. As the frequency became higher than 200 Hz, the auditory threshold increased almost linearly with increasing frequency. Critical ratios of fishes measured in the presence of masking noise in the spectrum level range of 69$\~$78 dB (0 dB re 1$\mu$Pa/$\sqrt{Hz}$) ranged from 21 dB to 40 dB at test frequencies. The noise spectrum level at the start of masking was about 70 dB within the test frequency range. The sound pressure level of 100$\~$200 Hz recognized by japanese parrot fish under the ambient noise is above 91 dB and the critical ratio for them is above 21 dB.
It is blown that the loudness is one of the most important metrics in assessing the sound quality and a calculation method for loudness has been standardized for steady sounds. In this study, a new loudness model is suggested for dealing with the transient sound for a unified analysis of various practical sounds. A signal processing technique is introduced for this purpose, which is required for the band subdivision and the prediction of band-level change of transient sounds. In addition, models for the post-masking and the temporal integration are adopted in the analysis of the loudness of transient sounds. In order to solve the problem of the conventional loudness model in the pure-tone signal processing, a critical band filter is employed in the analysis, which consists of 47 critical filters having a filter spacing of a half of the critical bandwidth. For testing the effectiveness of the present model, the predicted responses are compared with the experimental data and it is observed that they are in good agreements.
In this paper, we propose a user interface technique based on embedded sensors applying to apps in smart phone. Especially, we implement avata generation application using image filtering technique for photo image in smart phone. In the application, The embedded sensors are used as intuitive user interface to adjust the image filtering effect for making user satisfied effect in real time after the system produced the image filtering effect for avatar. This technique provides not a simple typed method of parameter values adjustment but a new intuitively emotional adjustment method in image filtering applications. The proposed technique can use sound values from embedded mike sensor for adjusting key values of sketch filter effect if the smart phone user produces sound. Similiarly the proposed technique can use coordinate values from embedded acceleration sensor for adjusting masking values of oil painting filter effect and use brightness values from embedded light sensor for adjusting masking values of sharp filter effect. Finally, we implement image filtering application and evaluate efficiency and effectiveness for the proposed technique.

The purpose of this paper is to improve the availability of underwater sound by the fundamental data on the hearing ability of Redlip croaker Pseudosciaena polyactis, which is cultured according to the cultivation technology, recently. The auditory thresholds of Redlip croaker were determined at 6 frequencies from 80Hz to 800Hz by heartbeat conditioning method using pure tones coupled with a delayed electric shock. The audible range of the Redlip croaker extended from 80Hz to 800Hz with the best sensitive frequency range including little difference in hearing ability from 80Hz to 500Hz. In addition, the auditory thresholds over 800Hz increased rapidly. The mean auditory thresholds of the Redlip croaker at the test frequencies from 80Hz to 800Hz were 90.7dB, 93.4dB, 92.9dB, 94.4dB, 95.5dB and 108dB, respectively. Auditory masking for the redlip croaker was measured using masking stimuli with the spectrum level range of about 66, 71, 75dB (0dB re $1{\mu}Pa/{\sqrt{Hz}}$). According to white noise level, the auditory thresholds increased as compared with thresholds in a quiet background noise. The Auditory masking by the white noise spectrum level was stared over about 70dB within 80~500Hz. Critical ratio ranged from minimum 20.7dB to maximum 25.5dB at test frequencies of 80Hz~500Hz.

The auditory thresholds for 7 specimens of the sharp toothed eel Muraensox cinerus were measured at 5 frequencies by heartbeat conditioning method using pure tones coupled with a delayed electric shock. The audible range of the sharp toothed eel extended from 80Hz to 300Hz with the best sensitivity around 80Hz and 100Hz. In addition, the auditory thresholds over 200Hz increased rapidly. The mean auditory thresholds of the sharp toothed eel at the test frequencies of 80Hz, 100Hz, 200Hz and 300Hz were 87dB, 86dB, 105dB and 126dB, respectively. Auditory masking was determined for the sharp toothed eel by using masking stimuli with the spectrum level range of about 70~80dB (0dB re $1{\mu}Pa/\sqrt{Hz}$). According to white noise level, the auditory thresholds increased as compared with thresholds in a quiet background noise. The noise spectrum level at the start of masking was distributed at the range of about 64dB within 80~100Hz. Critical ratio ranged from minimum 24dB to maximum 40dB at test frequencies of 80Hz~200Hz.
