  • Sound absorption capability and bending strength of laminated ship-building plywood waste of maple and melanti wood were estimated. Sound absorption coefficients of wood had been measured by the two microphone transfer function method and bending strength examined by three point loading. The maximum strength in bending of laminated ship-building plywood waste of maple and melanti wood were 534 and 414 kgf/$cm^2$, respectively. The sound absorption coefficients of laminated ship-building plywood waste were higher than mongolian oak and fiber board, well used construction material. Especially, in the case of laminated ship-building plywood waste of melanti wood, average sound absorption coefficient was about 0.25. It was surmised that the laminated ship-building plywood waste can be used as interior materials because of its good mechanical and sound absorption properties.

  • This study aims for building an application system of converting sound into color image based on synesthetic perception. As the major features of input sound, both scale and octave elements extracted from F0(fundamental frequency) were converted into both hue and intensity elements of HSI color model, respectively. In this paper, we used the fixed saturation value as 0.5. On the basis of color model conversion theory, the HSI color model was then converted into the RGB model, so that a color image of the BMP format was finally created. In experiments, the basic system was implemented on both software and hardware(TMS320C6713 DSP) platforms based on the proposed sound-color image conversion method. The results revealed that diverse color images with different hues and intensities were created depending on scales and octaves extracted from the F0 of input sound signals. The outputs on the hardware platform were also identical to those on the software platform.

  • This paper presents a modified filtered-x least mean square (FxLMS) algorithm to improve the stability of active noise control (ANC) system in realistic environment. A real-time ANC system employing modified FxLMS is designed and implemented on digital signal processor (DSP) board. The ANC system is evaluated for cancelling various tonal frequency noises in the range from 100 to 500 Hz and the performance is measured in terms of sound pressure level (SPL) attenuation. Experiment results show that a quiet zone with maximum 20 dB SPL attenuation can be generated around the location of error microphone.

  • Endoscopy has become a crucial diagnostic and therapeutic procedure in clinical areas. Over the past three years, we have developed a computerized system to record and store clinical data pertaining to endoscopic surgery of laparascopic cholecystectomy, pelviscopic endometriosis, and surgical arthroscopy. In this study, we developed a computer system, which is composed of a frame yabber, a sound board, a VCR control board, a LAN card and EDMS(endoscopic data management software. Also, computer system has controled peripheral instruments such as a color video printer, a video cassette recorder, and endoscopic input/output signals(image and doctor's comment). Digital endoscopic data management system is based on open architecture and a set of widely available industry standards, namely: windows 3.1 as a operating system, TCP/IP as a network protocol and a time sequence based database that handles both images and doctor's cotnments. For the purpose of data storage, we used MOD and CD-R. Digital endoscopic system was designed to be able to store, recreate, change, and compress signals and medical images.

  • In this study, non-flammable mineral foam board using waste glass that can be produced to standardized specifications were developed and evaluated for the performance. In addition to the physical and mechanical performance, the environmental properties such as insulation, non-combustibility, gas hazard, sound absorption, etc. were tested to verify the use as interior and exterior building materials. Through the structural review, the validity was verified for the application of the office and restaurant building.

  • The purpose of this work is that by using speckle phenomena of low-level He-Ne laser, it analyzes the movement condition of surface elements on a substance vibrating. The lights from laser reflect against a copper plate and will be shown as speckles on a vibration board. If we vibrate these speckles by sound waves of a speaker installed on the back, the speckles change with various shapes. When a vibration board has a maximum vibration, the frequency becomes a dynamical resonance frequency and we can mark the changes of speckles at that time on a vibration board.

  • In this study, we prepared the board of vermiculite materials utilizing coal bottom ash from the Western thermal power stations in Korea and obtained experimental data in applications for building interior materials with the characteristics of sound absorption. To produce the mixture materials of vermiculite and coal bottom ash, we used a microwave drying process. In addition, a ball milling process was used to produce particles of coal bottom ash with a uniform size of $65{\mu}m$. When the board made from mixture materials of vermiculite and coal bottom ash were produced with bottom ash sulfur concentrations of 5, 10 wt%, maximum bending loads were analyzed. These experimental results would contribute much to fundamental data essential to the recycling technology of coal bottom ash.

  • The toxic, Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs) caused by the Cochlodinium polykrikoides have a serious impact on the coastal waters of Korea. In this study, the acoustic detection system was developed for rapid HABs detection, based on the acoustic backscattering properties of the C. polykrikoides. The developed system was mainly composed of a pulser-receiver board, a signal processor board, a control board, a network board, a power board, ultrasonic sensors (3.5 and 5.0 MHz), an environmental sensor, GPS, and a land-based control unit. To evaluate the performance of the system, a trail was done at a laboratory, and two in situ trials were conducted: (1) when there was no red tide, and (2) when there was red tide. In the laboratory evaluation, the system performed well in accordance with the number of C. polykrikoides in the received level. Second, under the condition when there was no red tide in the field, there was a good correlation between the acoustic data and sampling data. Finally, under the condition when there was red tide in the field, the system successfully worked at various densities in accordance with the number of C. polykrikoides, and the results corresponded with the sampling data and monitoring result of NFRDI (National Fisheries Research & Development Institute). From the laboratory and field evaluations, the developed acoustic detection system for early detecting HABs has demonstrated that it could be a significant system to monitor the occurrence of HABs in coastal regions.

  • This paper is a study on the design and implementation of the Korean Tet-to-Speech system. In this paper, parameter symthesis method is chosen for speech symthesis method and PARCOR coeffient, one of the LPC analysis, is used as acoustic parameter, We use a diphone as synthesis unit, it include a basic naturalness of human speech. Diphone DB is consisted of 1228 PCM files. LPC synthesis method has defect that decline clearness of synthesis speech, during synthesizing unvoiced sound In this paper, we improve clearness of synthesized speech, using residual signal as ecitation signal of unvoiced sound. Besides, to improve a naturalness, we control the prosody of synthesized speech through controlling the energy and pitch pattern. Synthesis system is implemented at PC/486 and use a 70Hz-4.5KHz band pass filter for speech imput/output, amplifier and TMS320c30 DSP board.
