  • This study examined differences in the preference of the fest therapy program regarding stress level. Using convenience sampling method, the surveys on the preferred type of forest healing program and social and psychological stress scales was carried out for adult male and female. As a basis of Psycho social Stress Scale (PWI-SF: Psychosocial Well-being Index Short Form), the adult 620 people were classified such as healthy group, potential stress group, high-risk stress group. The data were analyzed by use of SPSS 21.0 program. To see the difference in preferences for forest therapy program between the three groups according to stress levels, it was analyzed using one-way ANOVA. Depending on the stress levels, there were differences in the preferences of forest healing program such as breathing, breathing exercises, walking in the forest, listening to the sound of water flowing, viewing the forest, counseling, consultation and expert coaching, stress-related lectures, communication-related lectures, forest bathing wind bathing sun bathing. High-risk stress group preferred cognitive based program such as counseling, consultation and expert coaching, stress-related lectures, communication-related lectures. Healthy group appeared to prefer highly emotional approach of the program to take advantage of the five senses such as breathing, breathing exercises, walking in the forest, listening to the sound of water flowing, viewing the forest, forest bathing, wind bathing, sun bathing. Noticeable preference difference was not observed in the potential stress group. It is hoped this study will serve as a basis for the development of forest healing program regarding stress level.

  • Congenital diaphragmatic eventration is a rare disease and generally accepted as an abnormally high position of part or all of the diaphragm, usually associated with a marked decrease in muscle fibers and a membranous appearance of the abnormal area. There were 4 cases of the congenital diaphragmatic eventration at the Dept. of Thoracic Surgery, Seoul National University Hospital, from 1957 to 1977. They were two boys and two girls and ranging from 1 day to 3 years of age. They were all repaired by surgical operation and one was expired postoperatively, another one was dead one year later due to complication. The ratio between right and left was 1:3 and their symptoms were cyanosis, dyspnea and frequent respiratory disease. In physical examination there was noted decreased breathing sound on the affected lung field and bowel sound was audible in some cases. Diagnosis was done by Chest X-ray and plication of the affected diaphragm was usually done in operation. There were noted atelectasis and cystic change of the affected side lung. And the liver, colon, spleen and small intestine were found in the dome of the eventrated diaphragm.

  • Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is the most common type of sleep apnea and is caused by obstruction of the upper airway. It is characterized by repetitive pauses in breathing during sleep despite the effort to breathe. Apnea is closely related to clinical findings and respiratory disturbance index (RDI). The total subjects were 42 (male 26, female 16) and examined by polysomography (PSG) in terms of RDI above 5 and below 5 at Mok-Dong Hospital in Ewha Womans University from January to June, 2012. The study revealed the followings: The comparison of clinical findings and RDI above 5 showed significant increase in age, BMI, and snoring sound although lowest $SpO_2$ level decreased. The correlation coefficient analysis between clinical findings and RDI showed statistically significant correlation in age, BMI, lowest $SpO_2$ although snoring sound and average $SpO_2$ showed statistically insignificant correlation.

  • Auscultation of heart sounds using a stethoscope is the basic method to diagnose the cardiovascular disease and observation of abnormalities. However, the heart sound transmitted to the ear through the stethoscope is greatly affected by internal sounds such as organ movement or breathing. In addition, the user's experience significantly influences the accuracy of the auscultation result. Therefore, in this paper, we developed a wearable device that simultaneously measures heart sound and PPG signals for cardiac condition monitoring. The structure of the proposed device is designed to simultaneously measure heart sound and PPG signals when worn on a finger and placed on the chest. A prototype was implemented according to the design structure, and it was confirmed that the performance of measurements and collection for physiological signals was excellent through experiments.

  • A Literatur Review of Physical and Breathing Exercises for Ear Health, the results were as follows. 1. The most common using way is rubbing your ears and auricle with warm palms. 2. To stimulate inner acoustic meatus, obstruct external acoustic meatus for a short time by the palm or fingers and then to stimulate it by the sudden opening. 3. This method is a common way to press aurical or orifice of external acoustic meatus for example, TE21(耳門), TE20(角孫), GB2(聽會), TE19(노息), TE18(계脈), GB11(竅陰), TE17(예風) etc. 4. The best time to pratice is early in the morning or before go to bed, but a litter difference by the writer's opinion, so there is not consistency. 5. Since tinnitus and hardness of hearing is related to the who1e body, it is known that you can relax your whole body by pressing the acupuncture points located in the head of occipital region or by stretching the upper half of the body. 6. There is method that obstruct your ears with palms and 3rd finger on your occipital region and splash by the 2th fingers.(sound the celestial drum)

  • This study was conducted to develop a dummy in an environment similar to the human body, to prepare a standard for evaluation and to present the process of the production in order to evaluate the performance of the robot that can detect the persons needing rescue in a confined space, who are difficult for fire-fighting officials to rescue in case of fire and disaster. As a result, a standard for evaluation was developed and standardized into four parts 'Normal,' 'Risk Stage 1,' 'Risk Stage 2' and 'Risk Stage 3'based on the number of breath cycles, carbon dioxide concentration, core temperature and criteria for hearing to recognize the voice. In addition, in order to produce a dummy, fever, breathing capacity and voice output function were compared and analyzed. This study has significance that it built up basic data of the method of producing the actual dummy, by presenting characteristics and controlling methods using the waterproof insulation heating coil for the function, solenoid valve for the consecutive output of breathing capacity and USB program sound board for voice output.

  • The goal of this study was to investigate acoustic and physiologic characteristics of two phonation types of 'Khoomei' which is a traditional singing style of people who live around the Altai mountains or Mongolia region. It can be produced two pitches simultaneously - high melody pitch can be perceived along with a low drone pitch. Sygyt and kargyraa styles are the most popular and identifiable styles and they can be recognized as the different sounds depending on the method of voice production. Two trained Mongolians participated and have used at least 5 - 6 years. The characteristics of this voice production were measured by using flexible fiberscope, Stroboscopy, Lx Speech studio, Spead, and Doctor Speech. In Sygyt style, very high vocal fold closure (71.50%) with both true and false vocal folds contact and strong breathing support was observed. They also showed that tongue height and harmonics were increased (around 10dB) with resonance cavity movement. In contrast, it was found that Kargyraa sound had very low pitch with relaxed stomach, less laryngeal tension and lower vocal fold contact (69.50%) than hard Sygyt style sound without raising the tongue during phonation. 'Khoomei' phonation can be made by strong contact of both true and false vocal folds and by increasing the harmonics as well.

  • Thymolipoma is extremely uncommon benign mediastinal tumor consisting of fatty and thymic tissue. Only 50 verified cases have been reported in the world literatures. This one case is the first reported example of surgically treated thymolipoma associated with spontaneous pneumothorax. A thirty-two year old male patient had been in good health until two days prior to admission, when he noted sudden dyspnea associated with an aching pain over the left precordium. The dyspnea and chest pain had become progressively worse. The physical examination revealed that left hemithorax was tympanic sound on percussion and absence of breathing sound on auscultation and point of maximal impulse was located on the 4th intercostal space at the left sternal border. Emergency closed thoracostomy was performed under the impression of tension type spontaneous pneumothorax of the left lung. After closed thoracostomy, point of maximal impulse was not changed inspire of full expansion of the left lung and chest X-ray was strongly suggested pericardial effusion or cardiomegaly which couldn`t account for by clinical course and hemodynamic evidence. EKG, echocardiogram, bronchofiberoscophy, bronchogram and diagnostic thoracentesis was performed. On Dec. 8, 1980, operation was performed under the impression of mediastinal tumor in the anterior mediastinum. At left posterolateral thoractomy, a large fatty mass, measuring 35 x 27 x 13 Cm in dimension and weighing 3350 gm, was resected and multiple bullae on the apicoposterior segment of the left upper lobe was resected and continuously sutured. The pathologic diagnosis of the fatty mass was thymolipoma. The postoperative course was uneventful and discharged in good general conditions.

  • Sleep apnea causes various secondary disease such as hypertension, stroke, myocardial infarction, depression and cognitive impairment. Early detection and continuous management of sleep apnea are urgently needed since it causes cardio-cerebrovascular diseases. In this study, wearable device for monitoring respiration during sleep using PVDF film was developed to detect vibration through trachea caused by breathing, which determines normal breathing and sleep apnea. Variables such as respiration rate and apnea were extracted based on the detected breathing sound data, and a noise reduction algorithm was established to minimize the effect even when there is a noise signal. In addition, it was confirmed that irregular breathing patterns can be analyzed by establishing a moving threshold algorithm. The results show that the accuracy of the respiratory rate from the developed device was 98.7% comparing with the polysomnogrphy result. Accuracy of detection for sleep apnea event was 92.6% and that of the sleep apnea duration was 94.0%. The results of this study will be of great help to the management of sleep disorders and confirmation of treatment by commercialization of wearable devices that can monitor sleep information easily and accurately at home during daily life and confirm the progress of treatment.
