  • The technology of fluidized bed to use dry sorbent can be new technology that reduce the operating cost and make efficient operation. Therefore, this study investigated $CO_2$ control by dry sorbents with operating variables in a fluidized bed, compared with fixed bed for $CO_2$ adsorption capacity and pressure drop, and presented the $CO_2$ adsorption capacity of activated carbon, molecular sieve 5A, molecular sieve 13X, and activated alumina. As the results of this study, the basic data could be achieved for operation of fluidized bed process, and fluidized bed process presented relatively high $CO_2$ adsorption capacity and low pressure drop with the increase of gas velocity. In addition, molecular sieve 5A showed 1.1~3.0-fold later breakthrough point and 1.1~2.7-fold higher adsorption capacity than the other dry sorbents.

  • Reduction, sulfidation, and regeneration reactions were performed using domestic and Australian iron ore in order to develop a desulfurizing sorbent for the high temperature desulfurization process that is one of major processes in the integrated coal gasification combined cycle (IGCC) system. A TGA (Thermogravimetric Analysis) reactor and a fixed-bed reactor were used. Some basic kinetic information was obtained from BET surface area measurements, SEM photos, cyclic reactions, reaction temperature changes and TGA curves of the sorbents. The rates of both desulfurization and regeneration increased with increasing reaction temperature in the range of 500-700$^{\circ}C$.

  • The carbon dioxide adsorption behavior of silica with a large specific surface area and pore volume functionalized with aminosilane compounds via in-situ polymerization and functionalization method were investigated. The organosilanes include amino functional group capable of adsorbing carbon dioxide. Elemental analyzer, in situ FT-IR and thermogravimetric analyzer were used to characterize the sorbents and to determine their $CO_2$ adsorption behavior. Comparison of different aminosilane loading in the support revealed that polyaminosilane functionalization of 70% of the pore volume in the support was better in terms of the adsorption capacity and amine efficiency than that of 100% of the pore volume of the support. Furthermore, the sorbents showed a higher adsorption capacity at an adsorption temperature of $75^{\circ}C$ than at $30^{\circ}C$ due to the thermal expansion of synthesized polyaminosilanes inside the pore of silica. The N-[3-(trimethoxysilyl)propyl]ethylenediamine (2NS) sorbent with 70% of the pore volume functionalized showed the highest adsorption capacity of 9.2 wt% at $75^{\circ}C$.
