A method for properties evaluation of activated charcoal sorbents in iodine capture under dynamic conditions

  • Experimental equipment for studying the sorption properties of iodine sorbents using radioactive methyliodide has been developed. The sorption capacity index ${\alpha}$ is proposed as a criterion parameter for assessing the quality of impregnated activated charcoals. It was found that this parameter does not depend on the dynamic conditions during the sorbent test. It was shown that values of the sorption capacity index allow to recommend iodine sorbents for industrial gas cleaning processes.

2,4-DNPH와 가스크로마토그래프를 이용한 포름알데히드 분석방법 (Analytical method for analyzing formaldehyde using 2, 4-DNPH and gas chromatography/FID, NPD)

  • To develop and evaluate formaldehyde measurement method using 2,4-dinitro-phenylhydrazine (2,4-DNPH) coated sampler and gas chromatography, laboratory test and field test were conducted. Results of this study are as follows. Limit of detection(LOD) of measurement methods, HPLC-UVD, GC-NPD and GC-FID, is $0.008{\mu}g/m{\ell}$ $0.060{\mu}g/m{\ell}$, $0.472{\mu}g/m{\ell}$ respectively. Coefficiency of measurement methods, HPLC-UVD, GC-NPD and GC-FID, is 0.008, 0.009, 0.020 respectively. Desorption efficiency of sep-pak xposure aldehyde sampler and sorbent sample tube is 1.05(range : 0.99 - 1.12), 1.02(range : 0.99 - 1.06) respectively. Samples of sorbent sample tube and sep-pak xposure aldehyde sampler turned out to be stored at refrigerator, according to storage test results. Measurement methods of HPLC-UVD, GC-NPD, GC-FID, according to results of precision for the combined sampling and analytical procedure, became acceptable to OSHA evaluation standard. Field test using exposure chamber met the NIOSH overall uncertainty recommendation(less than 25%). Overall uncertainty of Sepak-HPLC(UVD), Tube-GC(NPD), Tube-GC(FID) is 11.0% - 17.0%. Consequently gas chromatography(GC-NPD, GC-FID) and high performance liquid chromatography(EPA TO-11) using 2,4-DNPH coated sampler for formaldehyde measurement turned out to be suitable to measure personal formaldehyde exposure at workplaces.

다양한 아미노실란을 이용한 이산화탄소 흡착제 합성 및 흡착 특성 (Synthesis of CO2 Adsorbent with Various Aminosilanes and its CO2 Adsorption Behavior)

  • 넓은 비표면적과 큰 기공 부피를 갖는 실리카에 다양한 아미노실란 화합물을 in-situ 중합법을 통해 기능화 후 이산화탄소 흡착 특성을 확인하였다. 이산화탄소 흡착 기능기로 아민기가 포함된 아미노실란 화합물이 사용되었다. 흡착제의 흡착 특성 분석을 위해 질소 흡 탈착 실험과 원소분석, in situ FT-IR, TGA를 이용하였다. 흡착제 합성 전후를 비교하였을 때 폴리아미노실란이 기능화되면 표면적과 기공부피 및 크기가 감소하였으며 실리카 기공 부피의 70%에 해당하는 폴리아미노실란 화합물을 기능화 시켰을 경우 기공 부피의 100% 기능화 보다 이산화탄소 흡착능이 향상되었다. 흡착 온도를 비교하며 $30^{\circ}C$보다 $75^{\circ}C$에서 폴리아미노실란 화합물의 열팽창과 자유부피 증가로 흡착능이 증가하였고, 2NS/NPS-2의 경우 기공 부피 70% 기능화와 흡착 온도 $75^{\circ}C$에서 9.2 wt%의 높은 $CO_2$ 흡착능을 보였다.

  • 본 연구는 날로 그 발생량이 증가하고 있는 산성광산배수의 처리과정에서 발생하는 슬러지를 재활용하기 위하여 수행되었으며, 슬러지의 주성분인 수산화철[$Fe(OH)_3$]이 중금속에 대한 흡착 능력이 우수한 점을 이용하여 슬러지를 광해방지용 중금속흡착제의 제조 원료로 활용하기 위한 연구를 수행하였다. 먼저 슬러지의 물성파악을 위하여 슬러지의 화학조성, 광물조성, 입도, 형상 등을 조사하였고 슬러지 첨가량, 시간, pH, 중금속 농도, 소결온도에 따른 중금속 종별 흡착능을 조사 검토하였다.

아연-티타늄 복합산화물 탈황제의 제조 및 반응특성 연구 (A Study on Preparation and Reactivity of Zinc Titanate Sorbents for H2S Removal)

  • 아연-티타늄 복합금속산화물 탈황제를 제조하여 석탄가스중의 $H_2S$를 제거하는 고온탈황성능을 연구하였다. $H_2S$ 흡수에 의한 탈황제의 황화반응실험을 충전층 관형 흐름반응기를 사용하여 $550{\sim}750^{\circ}C$ 범위에서 수행한 결과 탈황율과 아연성분의 손실측면에서 $650^{\circ}C$가 최적 황화반응 온도임이 밝혀졌다. SEM 분석에 의해서 $650^{\circ}C$에서의 황화반응과 $750^{\circ}C$에서의 재생반응에 따른 탈황제 입자의 구조변화를 관찰하였다. 탈황성능의 지속성과 탈황제 내구성을 평가하기 위하여 연속적인 황화-재생 cycle 반응실험을 수행하였으며 10번째 cycle 이후에 수거반 탈황제 시료의 특성을 BET, XRD, SEM/EDX에 의해서 분석하였다. 아연-티타늄 복합 산화물 탈황제는 연속적인 황화-재생 cycle 동안에 거의 일정한 탈황성능을 나타내었다.

흡착튜브 - 열탈착 정량분석 기법에 기반한 과일시료로부터 자연적 휘발성유기화합물의 배출특성 연구 (Biogenic Volatile Organic Compounds (BVOC) Emissions from Fruit Samples Based on Sorbent Tube Sampling and Thermal Desorption (ST-TD) Analysis)

  • In this study, a combination of sorbent tube (ST)-thermal desorption (TD)-gas chromatography (GC)-mass spectrometry (MS) was used for quantitative analysis of liquid phase standards of 10 BVOC ((1) (+)-${\alpha}$-pinene, (2) (+)-${\beta}$-pinene, (3) ${\alpha}$-phellandrene, (4) (+)-3-carene, (5) ${\alpha}$-terpinene, (6) p-cymene, (7) (R)-(+)-limonene, (8) ${\gamma}$- terpinene, (9) myrcene, and (10) camphene). The results of BVOC calibration yielded comparatively stable pattern with response factor (RF) of 23,560~50,363 and coefficient of determination ($R^2$) of 0.9911~0.9973. The method detection limit (MDL) of BVOC was estimated at 0.03~0.06 ng with the reproducibility of 1.30~5.13% (in terms of relative standard error (RSE)). Emissions of BVOC were measured from four types of fruit samples ((1) tangerine (TO), (2) tangerine peel (TX), (3) strawberry (SO), and (4) sepals of strawberry (SX)). The sum of BVOC flux (${\sum}flux$ (BVOC) in ng/hr/g) for each sample was seen on the descending order of (1) TX=291,614, (2) TO=2,190, (3) SO=1,414, and (4) SX=2,093. If the results are compared between the individual components, the highest flux was seen from (R)-(+)-limonene (265,395 ng/hr/g) from TX sample.

혼합 촉진 장치의 형상에 따른 탈황효율 비교 (Comparison of the $SO_2$ Removal Efficiency by Mixing Enhancement Shape)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 대형 석탄 화력 발전소에 DSI (Dry Sorbent Injection)공정을 실제 적용 할 경우에 실현 가능성에 대한 연구로서 N 발전(주)의 S 화력발전본부에서 운용중인 500MW급 석탄화력 발전시설의 보일러 후단에서 전기 집진기 전 단까지를 모델로 삼아 Lab-scale 실험장치를 제작하여 탈황효율을 높이기 위한 실험을 수행하였다. 이를 위하여 Lobedplate와 Step-plate라는 혼합촉진장치를 고안하고 각각 형상을 달리하여 궁극적으로 탈황효율을 높이기 위한 혼합촉진장치의 최적 형상도출을 위한 실험을 수행하였으며 부수적으로 탈황제의 분사구의 개수에 따른 탈황효율 또한 분석하였다. 그 결과 혼합촉진장치가 설치된 경우가 더 높은 탈황 효율을 나타내었고 형상에서는 계단형상일 경우 가장 높은 탈황효율을 보였다. 또한, 탈황제의 분사구의 개수에 따른 탈황효율은 혼합 촉진 장치가 설치되지 않은 경우, 분사구의 개수가 증가할수록 높은 탈황 효율을 보였으나 혼합촉진장치가 설치된 경우는 분사구의 개수가 4개일 경우가 이론적 결과와 같이 가장 높은 탈황효율을 나타내었다.

Exposure and Risk Assessment of Operators to Insecticide Acetamiprid during Treatment on Apple Orchard

  • Occupational exposure and risk assessment were conducted to evaluate the safety of operators when insecticide acetamiprid was applied to apple orchard using a speed sprayer. Dermal patches, cotton gloves, socks, and masks were used to monitor the dermal exposure, and personal air pump with solid sorbent was used to measure the potential inhalation exposure. In validation to analytical methods, the limit of detection and limit of quantitation were 0.25 ng and 1 ng, respectively. Good reproducibility (coefficient variation < 4%), linearity (coefficient determination > 0.999), and recovery (85.3-118.2%) were obtained. Trapping efficiency of solid sorbent was 96.4% while breakthrough did not occur. Only hand exposure was measured on the gloves during mixing/loading to give $33-1,132{\mu}g$. Exposure amount of operator 3 among 4 workers was noticeably high. The total volumes of spray liquid for operators were $535-1,235mL{\cdot}h^{-1}$, corresponding to 0.03-0.08% of the applied spray solution. Highest contaminated parts of body were thighs, chest, and lower legs. The inhalation exposure ratio to the total application amount was significantly low. However, wind seemed to affect the inhalation exposure of operator. For risk assessment, margin of safety was calculated by the application of cloth and dermal penetration rate to obtain values of much larger than 1 in all cases. Therefore, health risk of operators during treatment of acetamiprid in apple orchard could be of least possibility.

기중 포름알데히드 측정을 위한 확산포집기의 개발 (The Development of New Diffusive Sampler for Formaldehye in Air)

  • To utilize diffuse sampling of formaldehyde in air, a new sampler was designed. A glass fiber filter was impegnated with 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazine(DNP) and phosphoric acid and mounted 37mm cassette. The formaldehyde vapor was sampled in the dynamic chamber and measured by high performance liquid chromatograph and compared with solid sorbent tube. The results were as follows ; 1. The desorption efficiencies of diffusive sampler between 97.0% and 100%. 2. the sampling rate is constant as in $58{\sim}61.8m{\ell}/min$ when sampling times are between 120 and 360 min. 3. There was a significant relationship between concentrations of diffusive samples and active samples with the coefficient of determination(R2) of 0.92. 4. Desorbed amount of formaldehyde diffusive sampler was increased by high relative humidity. 5. Wheth diffusive samplers were stored at room temperature or at refrigerator there was no statistically significant difference in the accuracy of result. 6. When the diffusive samplers, which collected formaldehyde vapor, were exposed to clean air for three hours, there was no significant loss of formaldehyde due to reverse diffusion. In conclusion, this study suggest that developed diffusive samplers will be a reasonable substitute for the solid sorbent tube for sampling formaldehyde and practical comparative study of developed diffusive sampler should be performed at workplaces of manufacturing industry.

휴믹산이 black shale과 오염물질의 분포에 미치는 영향에 대한 연구 (Effect of Humic acid on the Distribution of the Contaminants with Black Shale)

  • Humic acids are macromolecules originated from natural water, soil, and sediment. The characteristics of humic acid enable it to change the distribution of metals as well as many kinds of organic contaminants and to determine the sorption of them from soil solution. To see the effect of humic acid on the removal rate of organic contaminants and heavy metals, batch-scale experiments were performed. As a natural geosorbent, black shale was used as a sorbent media, which showed hight sorption capacity of trichloroethylene (TCE), lead, cadmium and chromium. The effect of sorption-desorption, pH, ionic strength and the concentration of humic acid was taken into consideration. TCE sorption capacity by black shale was compared to natural bentonite and hexadecyltrimethylammonium (HDTMA) modified bentonite. The removal rate was good and humic acid also sorbed onto black shale very well. The organic part of humic acid could effectively enhance the partition of TCE and it act as an electron donor to reduce Cr(VI) to Cr(III). Cationic metal of Pb(II) and Cd(II) also removed from the water by black shale. With 3 mg/L of humic acid, both Pb(II) and Cd(II) were removed more than without humic acid. That could be explained by sorption and complexation with humic acid and that was possible when humic acid could change the hydrophobicity and solubility of heavy metals. Humic acid exhibited desorption-resistivity with black shale, which implied that black shale could be an alternative sorbent or material for remediation of organic contaminants and heavy metals.
